This was so interesting, especially for a perpetual beginner like me. Even some 'beginners' videos are too advanced for me! I am so glad I found your channel.
Most people who paint fluffy white clouds think that they're white. Sometimes they are... however, most times they're a mix of colors, and have shadows. I'm glad you've included shadows. Study clouds... almost always, they have and cast shadows.🎉
Paul thanks - great approach to teaching and I appreciate you showing the color mixing, These Quick and Easy are a great precursor to your Let's Paint series. Perhaps you can consider doing one on "Rolling Hills".
Thank you for your tutorial. I m going to try immediatly .II,m glad to see it,s not so difficult.,i learn more with you than in m'y cours where thé teacher is Just blablabla all thé time...
I watched this this morning and while waiting for dead-car-battery help this afternoon, I noticed how colorful the bottoms of the fluffy whites that were passing by were! Spring must be here! I did see purple with the gray. It was just perfect for the wait. I love painting clouds!
Thank you for the fabulous demonstration. I have just been painting clouds for my sea scape and will practicing your gtechnique from now on. Best regards Colin, from Swansea , Wales . U.K.
Very helpful video, great tips and good results. Love the taping off and doing small practices too. Less overwhelming to start and nice to have at the end. Thank you so much 😊
Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorial that I came across today. I am finally returning to watercolour after a very long hiatus and having a refresher is so very helpful. I was so impressed that I have subscribed and look forward to many more lessons from you. Clouds are my most favourite things to observe and to be able to paint them easily and well will be a boost not only to my morale but will build my confidence as I get back into the flow. My most heartfelt thanks once again.
I am so glad to have only just now found your channel Paul. I am a 66 year young newbie to watercolor and really enjoyed this tutorial on clouds. They were all quite lovely in different ways. But I must say, the most enjoyable part was your very relaxed and positive outlook as you patiently painted each of the examples. Happy to be a new subscriber and look forward to seeing and learning from many more of your works of art and words of wisdom! 👩🦳🖌️
Thank you so much and welcome to my growing list of subscribers, there is also a free community over on my podia site that you might wish to get involved with. There is also a more in-depth look at painting clouds being sold as an online course, just £67. Also on that platform, let me know if I can help further , cheers P
Greetings from Ontario Canada. I’m currently reading John F Carlson’s ‘Guide to landscape Painting’ chapter on clouds. Your demonstrations helped bring to life some of his lengthy descriptions of colour temp and values. Thank you, Paul.
Great exercise. This is the second video I've seen tonight that talked a lot about edges, and demonstrated how to manipulate them. I learn something new everyday.
Beautifully explained and super useful. Great idea to do it in small scraps of paper, so that we learners do not get so much stressed. 🙂Thanks so much, Paul.
Thanks for this lots of people say that its easy and it works the tissue paper method on UA-cam doesn’t work for me but thanks for the effort and hard work in this vid it helped me a lot😊
These smaller cloud paintings look much more manageable as a beginner to learn how to do better clouds so ty for a more in depth & wasn’t dabbing my brush on paper towel when tried to soften cloud edges but got “cauliflower” blooms so damp brush not wet! Ty!!
Paul, thanks. I’m always looking for ideas on how,to paint clouds. I’m going to experiment with hard edged fringe lit clouds perhaps with my credit card.
Amazing suggestions Mr. It's been a while I am fighting with my paints to obtain nice and real clouds that i never obtain, and it's so struggle :) Many thanks
Can you please tell me what paints you used as they are not listed in description. I couldn’t make out the type of phalo blue you used. Lovely tutorial
I am just switching from pastel to watercolours and had far more pastels than I ever needed so I understand the urge to overbuy! Setting up your palette helps a lot. The watercolour pad I have buckles once it’s wet. Do you preshrink your paper or is it because it’s not quality paper? Can you advise on a good paper to purchase? I’m in Canada so may not have access to all of the English brands but do, of course, have Amazon Cheers
Thanks for a great mini tutorial. I used my Daniel smith colbolt blue on this and was not keen on the granulation. Have you ever found this with some Daniel smith colours?
Yes some of those brand really push their granulation properties, I feel that the blue will often do this anyway as the pigments are heavy and sink more easily. A case of trying brand and see what works best for you. Cheers P
Hi, Just found you and what a delight. As a 70 yr old beginner of a few months I've found this very helpful and can't wait to practice along with the Tree Tutorial Ive just seen. However, unless I missed it were these clouds painted Wet/Dry on Wet ? Await your reply and keep up the great tutorials. I discover a new one every day ;0).
Hi Ron, good question, they were in the main wet on dry, although #3 was a wet wah that I teased about. I may make another video soon, with varied applications instead of various clouds. Hope that helps out a little. best wishes P
Hi Paul, Thank you for your entertaining and even relaxing way of explaining a cloudy sky. I have a question: if there is an object, eg a building or sail boat, in front of the sky, would you first paint the sky or the object (off coarse I'll also try it myself, I think it is also important to let the sky or object dry before painting the oher thing)?
It is a good question, I normally lay the sky and allow to dry first. I also know others who will do the opposite, but only on solid objects. Items such as masks and poles etc go in at the end. cheers P
I was about to ask the same. Anyway, I've seen that every watercolor brand has its neutral tint. I assume they're more or less the same, if so, it probably doesn't matter which one we choose
Love to watch you paint. But i get disgusted when i try it myself. Trying to get back into painting after being away from it for 40 yrs. I dont know why highschool and college instructers thought i could paint. There is so much to learn they never taught me. Its anything but enjoyable, yet i cant stop gazing at artwork on walls, and potential compositions when ever im outdoors.
Thank you Barbara, I cannot say for your high school, but I am always willing to help out. I have several options free and a little cost. I have free and paid connections on my podia community site as well as my Patreon channel too. Message me again if I can help you further, cheers P
Thanks very much P. Thought you might like to know that I discovered both problem and answer. This morning i pulled out a w.c. pencil sketch i started 2 yrs ago of our river birch tree. Just trying to be quiet so my husband could take a nap, i tip toed out unto the patio with my stuff and started painting without thinking of what ive learned from viewing your lessons. As i did my OWN thing, several things you taught came to mind, one by one and i implemented them with success. Before i was approaching painting with 10 new things id gleaned from your videos - all essential but impossible to learn in one sitting or implement in first painting! You have given yrs of time to painting and practice. Thank you for passing it along! Cheers!
This was so interesting, especially for a perpetual beginner like me. Even some 'beginners' videos are too advanced for me! I am so glad I found your channel.
Hi Pamela, sorry for the late reply, I am so pleased I can be a help to you, best wishes cheers P

Good videos
What colours do you mix to get neutral tint?
I simply employ DS Neutral Tint, cheers P
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Love that brush. May I ask which one it is.
Can you please tell me what paints you used as they are not listed in description. I couldn’t make out the type of phalo blue you used. Lovely tutorial
It would be helpful to know what size brush you're using!
This was so helpful. Loving your videos! Am wondering if any of your videos explain how you do the scratchy look?
Hi Margaret, not as yet will keep in in mind, cheers P
Use rough paper, hold the brush lightly on its side so the belly of the brush barely makes contact and leaves a few hairs, and..practice..
Where do you get 230 lb hannemule blocks please?
整挺好👍👍👍
Thank you

Muito obrigado
@@paulappswildlifeart 🥰
Loving your videos. Do you explain in any of them..how you get that scratchy effect with the brush? Thanks.
Wipe off a lot of pigment so it’s a “dry brush”, and make a quick stroke with the side of the brush.

Please, the same with the ocean.
Can payne's gray be substitute to neutral tint? I feel like I allready have too many colors.
The tint is slightly warmer than Paynes grey, so not exactly, but subtle tweaking with say Indian red I mean just a smidge my swing it, cheers Paul
What is your neutral tint please?
I was about to ask the same. Anyway, I've seen that every watercolor brand has its neutral tint. I assume they're more or less the same, if so, it probably doesn't matter which one we choose
❤
What color is the natural could it be panes grey
What was the neutreal colour you used?
Neutral tint, most companies do one.
❤🙏🌹🌹
