Good eye! It is a Potvin template. I created the carve templates myself from a drawing and cut them out with a bandsaw. As far as the depth, In this case, I believe I started with a top that was 5/8 thick. I knew I needed the edge thickness to come to at least 3/32” or 1/8” (it’s been a while) and divided the remaining material by the number of carve templates. Thanks for the comment!
@@marquesguitars4812at's actually quite clever thinking. I've been watching people using paper templates that they have cut out with a fucking pair of scissors. I mean it looks sound when they are finished, but personally I would rather have something solid and accurate to go off of like what your doing with this mdf template/jig. Da iawn! Edit: I'm going to steal this idea from you, okay? 😉
Would it be easier to cut out the holes for pick ups dials etc after you have got your curved shape? Or is it best to cut them out beforehand like you have here? I'm just thinking of accidentally damaging the edges of the long holes as im getting it smooth. Surely with it's flat back it would be easy to get a nice level cut after the top of the body has been shaped?
Enjoyed every minute!
5 years later, youre a machine.
Is he still making guitars ? I found his website a few years back but now its just the logo.
Yes I love finding more guitar companies online so cool!
I went to the website its just the logo and the Facebook page has not had a post in a while. Are you still making guitars ?
That looks like a Potvin template, are the carve templates also Potvin? How do you know how deep to cut for each template? Great video.

Excellent work!
great video! are you doing 1/16th inch by the time?how thick is your first cause it doesnt seem like 1/16th
What are those tiny planers called that you are using yo round off your cuts?
violin thumb planes
Dude what shape router bit are you using with bearing ? is it a straight flute ?
I think it looks pretty cool before planing...where did you get the router jig? I'd like to try it for a mandolin build...
I mapped out each layer and transferred the outlines to mdf using carbon paper and cut out each step with a bandsaw.

How thick of a piece of wood did you start out with?
It’s been a while but I believe it was 5/8”
Thats a lot of work!
Totally worth it. 😅
