In 2015, Tamara Feldman (girl in the video) was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She decided to ride a horse across the United States in aid of the charity Race to Erase MS, which she documented on her website "And So I Ride".
Oh damn. I didn't know all THAT. Deftones managed to include a good cause with their typical "hot ass woman in music video" trend that's been ongoing since the 90s.
@@UndercoverNormie It's funny how, if you actually read between the lines, the 'hot ass woman' is more of a statement into the ebbs & flow of the music, and the emotion that resides within. It's at that point, it comes across as much more than just some superficiality casting. Also, this video was filmed before 2015.
It's because they're different in a good way like Radiohead. They're so good you can't put them in a single category. It's hard to know why it's so good, it's just so damn good
And that´s why I love Deftones so much. They are so long in the business already, but they´re still fresh. While other bands are just a copy of their past.
Absolutely. I loved "nu-metal" back in my late 90s high school days....and while I still have a fond place in my heart for all those bands.....the only band I truly legitimately love today, is Deftones. And Tool...but they take eons to release new music. :P But Deftones are one of the only bands from that era that are still releasing utterly _relevant creative interesting_ music. They've got such a beautiful aesthetic. Chino's voice is so damn unique...especially against the heavy instrumental aspect of the band. He has such an interesting way of twisting and refracting melodies into strangely surreal lines that float over top the harmony...making for a really surreal sensual vibe. _That_ is another thing that's always endeared me to Deftones; the sensuality of their music...and exploring the pathos of human sexuality. Gah...I could go on and on about why I think this band is one of the best...but no one wants to hear me rant online. Over and out. :)
So many heavy music fans discard this band as weak and soft. Every musician I know and have worked with, love and respect this band for their originality and ability to constantly change and expand. Music isn’t rigid and should never be labeled or grouped. If you expand your horizons, open your mind and heart, you’ll discover something truly profound and beautiful!!

+avedic Part of the same generation and completely agree with you. Tool and Deftones are the only bands that survived that era in my playlist. I loved that the Deftones, and especially Chino, grew with me as I grew myself. Chino specifically was constantly getting involved with much smaller up and coming bands that would have been considered underground, but were very popular within that niche (like Dead Poetic in the early 2000s). Deftones really are one of those bands without any bad albums. Yes they have released some slightly weaker albums but everything they've produced is pure gold.
I love this video. It gives me a familiar feeling. I cant explain. You have to live in the desert. Its like a spiritual solitude or a silent euphoric eerieness. Like I said cant explain.

I've known at least one other artist to do a similar thing. Alex Clare, on The Lateness of the Hour, staggered the names of some of his tracks. The name of the following track would actually fit the meaning and lyrics of the song before it (or after, I can't remember), at least on the surface.
Can we just think for a moment on how when he was pulling into the "driveway" he had his turn signal on... in the middle of the desert... probably the second car on the road that day...

Koi No Yokan is easily the pinnacle of early Deftones. This is the vibe and crunch.

One of the most underrated songs by Deftones 🤘
Deftones is a band all on its own, fueled by the magic of Chino... every time I listen to them (Team Sleep, Palms, Crossings), I go into a trance.
They’re fueled by their rhythm section for sure but chino is definitely part of their uniqueness

this song being the opening to koi no yokan sets the tone for the rest of the album perfectly.
This is a great way to start a musical oddysey. After this I cannot beat it. Each track puts me in intersterallar overdrive. Perfection at its finest.
just Koi No Yokan being the most underrated deftones album

Finally! An official Koi No Yokan video.
Chino is polite enough to use his turn signal... even when nobody is around.
Deftones have to be top 5 for consistency. One of very very few bands where you can repeatedly play albums from start to finish.
this band is so good.
Anyone that says Deftones are soft hasn't listened to them from the beginning. That is all.
I love this song and this video is devastatingly beautiful.
This track does something with me. Hypnotising
I think the music videos for Swerve City and Romantic Dreams got switched around.
No because the lyrics of this song speak of horses.
haha true. I guess I meant more about the song titles matching the music videos.
song title switch I meant. haha

Deftones is such an expert at combining the heavy aspects of metal but also the newer pop elements of the 2010s and they somehow mix so well together
This song has so much energy, and the video shows it. The girl riding without a doubt hot. And the weapon is the finishing touch.
