Of course Tobias Sammett has a fantastic voice. But one of the super things about Floor is that she has this crazy ability to tune her voice and even her vibrato exactly to her duet partner, to give that really seamless feeling, even with completely different voices, such as Marco Hietalla or Henk Poort and others. This song is also a perfect example of that.
@Ben I know Epica quite well and listend to Sancta Terra and Stabat Mater Dolorosa at the Retrospect many times, and they are fantastic! But you are telling only half of reality (and I get the impression that you are trying to put things upside down) when you say that Simone made Floor sound better. They made each other (!) sound better, and Floor is clearly the better singer of the two (allthough both are fantastic). PS. "That is why Floor sounded good"? Do you mean to say that Floor normally does not sound good? You need to grow some ears, bud.
@Ben Dude, I can´t follow your long and confused ramblings, and I am not going to. I wish lots of listening pleasure with your favorite Simone (or was it Floor after all?)!
Life's too short for beef between our treasured few wonderful power metal musicians. Glad you're both able to be grown-ups and say "frig it, we were young and it's been over a decade" - and I'd go absolutely nuts if you collaborated. Your commentary was also insightful. Especially when you bring up that English is their second language or even more! Toby being able to write AND sing in English like he does deserves more acclaim, honestly. (And Floor can just never be praised enough!)
If you love Floor for her voice I strongly suggest looking up Yannis Papadopoulos's personal channel. He absolutely NAILED his vocal cover of Ghost Love Score.
I would absolutely love to see some collaboration between Dragonforce and Avantasia since those are 2 of my favorite metal bands. Please try to make this happen one day
Well, Avantasia isnt actually a band in the traditional sense. Its a project. Tobias pulls musicians from other great bands for 2 or 3 albums to tell a story then completely changes the lineup for the next concept. So in all honesty - it would just be Dragonforce ft Tobias Sammet.
@@cappakrunchcappakrunch9681 Eh not completely new lineup. He seems Partial to Michael Kiske and Bob Caitly. Pretty sure both have been in at least one song on every album. That said After seeing Yannis cover Ghost Love Score and Sahara I would LOVE to see a Beast in Black and Nightwish collaboration. Especially given that Yannis has the necessary Vocal range to sing counter to pretty much any artist.
What I noticed with Avantasia is that the more often you listen to the songs the more you hear new tiny details that you didn’t hear before, same with Nightwish.
@Ben Of course I presume you’re a Simone’s big fan, and that’s totally cool. I strongly disagree with you about your statement, but is my personal insight. What I try to mean is that no matter how large is the range, how high is the pitch or how deep is the growl, how good is the dancing or whatever you want to consider. Everything is about emotions and feelings, and what Floor conveys to me when she is on stage is, for me, unique. Her versatility, her stage presence, her way to deliver emotion when she performs make me to experience a strong satisfaction that no other singer can do, and no matter what people say, that is not gonna change…So, again, tastes and opinions…
Have you heard their other collab “Kill the Pain Away”? Floor flawlessly kills not only the operatic vocals but she smashes the power metal vocals in that one!
I've always liked Tobias Sammet, i was very heavy into EdGuy back in the early 2000's. Tears of a Mandrake my alltime favorite song. Vain Glory Opera, my god... i gotta go back to listening to Tobias. Liked Avantasia also. But Edguy has a special place in my heart. And you are spot on about Sonata Arctica (Arc - Tica) ;)
I love Floor. I love Nightwish. I love Arjen and Ayreon. And I love Avantasia. And I love this song. So I want no one to misunderstand me here, what follows is high praise. From me anyway. This song takes me straight back to 1980. This would fit in extremely well with what my college roommates and I were listening to back then. And it would have been on every mix tape and rotation. Awesome stuff.
Over the last decade, I have had the pleasure f experiencing Floor and Nightwish. She is spellbinding and an amazingly talented vocalist and performer. She's got it all. She can sing classical style, pop, rock, growl, everything. She's the total package and a very pretty lady if all the rest wasn't enough already. Great selection, Henry. Thank you for turning me on to this song.
Honestly I love Sammet's work. He takes elements of classic pop-rock like Meatloaf, and gives it a nice spin. I may be biased though, because I'm a vocal lover. I listen to just about anything in any language if the vocals are good.

Fantastic song, though I am a fan of this type of music and a certified Floor fanatic. Enjoyed your educated opinion and analysis. A collab would be ... WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS :D
In Europe, Tobias is allowed to be a writer and singer of incredible musical constructs in metal. There, he has no limit. In the US, his voice would hit a glass ceiling in a Journey cover band. oh well In the chorus, is that Tobias singing the high harmony in the first two lines, then Floor hitting the same notes in lines 3 and 4? Amazing... the range on both of them is just crazy.

The 2 first albums of Sonata Arctica were perfection, 20 years later i still listen to them and has the same feeling. After Reckoning Night, they slowly became Nickelback from Finland.
I haven't heard Avantasia too much and when I did It was in a comparison with Ayreon, which I love. What I heard before from Tobias Sammet was pretty generic metal, not very memorable. This is very different. Very nice song and singing. Also, Floor Jansen is simply the best female vocalist in rock at the moment, no question.
LOVE Avantasia, I went to one of those shows in 2006 I think it was the Astoria (Miss that place) Edguy and Dragonforce, we had to get tickets off a tout outside and it was a rather oddly intense exchange, great times
When I first heard of Nightwish I did not want to listen to it, because in my metalheads/shredders sect they were despised for two sins which were the "lack of epic guitar solo" and "overuse of keyboard". And a few years later I was stunned by Floor Jansen's voice and stage presence and cried at a nightwish concert, like many of my pals. Floor Jansen has that rare gift within that small circle of "metal" vocalists like Bruce Dickinson, Dio, Halford, Glenn Hugues etc. who are "possessed" by the song, can hit the notes for sure, but moreover sing the words in "high definition".
Does anybody in this community not play guitar, but just loves this genre and finds Power metal incredibly satisfying and awesome to listen to! Also Herman li 🐐
Sabaton has been producing a lot of lyric videos in the past couple years. Both for their recent releases where they have made lyric videos for each song of their albums which also helps them explain the story behind the song. They've also started making lyric videos for older songs as well so that they have representation on youtube which I suppose increases engagement since it's fuels reaction videos as well.
Bought Moonglow on vinyl yesterday never have listening to Avantasia and needless to say, the album blew my mind. Damn good composition and musicianship!
It’s funny to hear that Herman has the same take as a lot of the power-metal fan community: “amazing that Tobi still writes catchy bangers; wish that Tony still did.”
I don't even care that they stopped making power metal, I love Unia and The Days of Grays. But what happened after that? Worse melodies, lyrics, weird rock n' roll vocals, bad production... It's pretty sad. :/
Now I'm a little disappointed about that Sonata Arctica bit. Used to be a big fan but haven't really listened their latest albums much at all. They're a nice band and just this summer I did see Tony Kakko live twice but it's true what Herman says. They've misplaced some of that old magic they had. Misplaced because I don't think it's lost, it's just stashed away.
@@AnteroJokinen Agreed 100% - Unia is still probably my fav record of theirs alongside Winterheart's Guild. No idea what happened. The last song that sounded somewhat cool was Flag in the Ground for me. But hey, we still have their old music forever
Fair point. I used to be a huge Sonata Arctica fan, yet haven't listened to them in at least several years. Not sure what happened, but they just fell completely off my radar. Unia was just okay to me, though I loved The Days of Grays. After that it felt like they kind of disappeared.
Me too. My daughter held on longer then I did, but for me Unia was the end. I kept trying them, and saw them in Paris about 8 years ago, but nothing past Reckoning Night is worth my time. Such a shame. The first time I heard The Cage I was taking my dog to the vet for surgery after someone fed her razor-blade sausage, and still I had a huge grin on my face. RIP.
@Ben I agree with that, Epica is amazing but i think Floor has the technique in her voice to sing everything amazingly good not only symphonic metal, it's like to speak for a singer maded better by the experience talking for Simone and a singer that is multitool and can make amazing results in any genre like Floor.Nightwish 's ex singer Tarjia it was amazing too and it is and now, they choose Floor maybe for her multitalent personality.
Both Floor and Simone are fantastic singers and I would put them both at the top even though I have a slight preference for Floor. Simone is prettier though;-)
@Ben agree with you. My top 3 would be Floor, Simone and Tarja i guess. I think Simone and Tarja are similar in the sense that they use more their headvoices in the operatic style while Floor is probably more all rounded with her singing. She can go from operatic to rock to growls and back to operatic in one song.
Avantasia's first 2 metal operas are my favorites. I wish he'd make a metal opera 3 to explain what happened to the two when they walked off into New adventure
Always awesome when artists just do something completely different and everyone is asking them HTF. 🤣 I would love to hear you bring some DragonForce sound colabs to some of the Dutch,Swedish and Finish bands. Definitely less Cookie monster, as slightly mentioned. Ex Sonata Arctica and ex Nightwish Singer made a band called the Dark Element, they have a bit of that heavier sound with bass and guitar that you are mentioning, (" ghost and the reaper" was a good one) You might like that style. Also, always great to see people want to heal old conflicts. I hope you get the opportunity ❤
When I first saw you talk about Avantasia I was incredibly excited, since it's my favourite music thing ever The idea of a dragonforce x avantasia collab is so amazing to me
Love the new Avantasia song. Your analysis is spot on. Your offer for guest appearances as a way to get past any bad blood from the past was pure class. I salute you for that, and hope it happens.
Oh boy. You've got 20 years of albums worth to catch up. 20 years of masterpieces, from Metal Opera I and II to Moonglow and now this. The best ones are the collaborations with Bob Catley, Sharon den Adel (from Within Temptation) and Marco (Nightwish). As individual songs, master of the pendulum might be a good one. Isle of Evermore if you just want pure sensual vocal orgasm for your ears. Farewell, again a combination between Sammet and Sharon (first one actually)
Love this song and video! Reminds me of "Imaginaerum" - might be just the circus tent and the hat on the character. Yes I am from the Nightwish Army. No, I listened to this song the first time without knowing Floor was part of it. Looking forward to this album. The title track is great too! YES! I LOVE COLLABS! DO IT!
Love to hear Tobias Sammet sing on the next song you guys make, love both of you guys and youre both full of ideas for every song, it will be a very big collab i reckon. :)
Great song! Nice review, Herman! I really love all the bands you mentioned here! If DragonForce would team up and tour the world with a couple of them (Sonata, Rhapsody, Nightwish, Stratovarius …) it would be legendary, I think!
The melody, the emotional feel, and even the storytelling is, I have to admit, what got me hooked/addicted to Avantasia more than (no offense) most other bands I listen to. Don't get me wrong, I listen to Dragonforce still (as your songs have that crazy energizing feel that I like and I prefer it over coffee 😂) and I even have a playlist mixed of DragonForce and Avantasia only (even called my playlist Dragontasia). I definitely would love to see/hear a full collab between Dragonforce and Avantasia.
Tobias Sammet singing on an DragonForce album and Herman Li doing an Avantasia solo sounds insane! It should be taken a step further. Tobi should help make a DragonForce song, or Marc should guest on Avantasia. The reason is that Tobi has a way to figure out ways to pull out hidden parts of a singer's voice. Aren't you curious how he would use Marc's voice? Listen what he did with Michael Kiske.
I liked the video, your analysis and of course the new Avantasia song and complet album by the way. I just love that kind of music (your too Herman :) ) and I really enjoy your videos. Just don´t get mixed up with some of the youtubers looking for "fast popularity" and keep doing your fantastic job! And please don´t fight among geniuses!! There is room for everybody and fans too!! Keep the metal high!!! RK
I also loved your opinions about the current power metal scene - its amazing to hear it echo'd around like that, I feel bad for those that are getting shit on, I want them to keep doing awesome stuff
This is why I love this channel. It keeps me updated in the metal/power metal world. I didn’t even know that Avantasia was going to release a new album. Also, I 100% agree with Herman Li, I would really like to hear more guitar solos in Avantasia.
Love this song! I only listen to Japanese bands now. So many layers! Time and signature changes, amazing vocals. Babymetal, Lovebites, Wagamama Raki, Passcode, Takanori Nishikawa, Hyde. The list goes on. Amazing musicians!
I just Love Floor Jansen's voice, she makes any music sounds amazing, on her special and very peculiar way to interpret the songs. To me, she is one of the best singer's of all times. Not mention her HUGE voice range to hit any low, or higher notes 😁She has a Perfect singing techniques. Nightwish won a whole new dynamic with her. After Tarja out's Nightwish, Floor Jansen was the only singer, that make me to listen Nightwish again, the Nightwish before singer's (after Tarja) were not Bad... but Floor is on the Perfect spot on Nightwish and on another whole level, looks like She was on the Band since the beginning, and because of that, she was the only who have the ability to make Nightwish Fan's "forget" Tarja's times, not copying Tarja's voice performance, but making her personal amazing songs performance without any kind of possible comparison, since she have is own personal style and voice. She makes feel like, that she born singing even before talking, its really amazing.
The quality in her voice is out of question excellent, but her voice in general sounds so painfully random, for the lack of better description. There's nothing special about it to an extent that I can't recognize it in a song, unlike someone like Simone Simons and Tarja, for instance, or Roy Khan, Tate, Kiske. But going back to female singers, Floors voice could be replaced by any competent singer and the song would be fine. When you replace Tarja and Simone, the song suffers. My opinion, of course.
I really like this song, I would also love to see a collaboration between you guys, I love dragonforce's energy and its exciting to see new artists around this genre adding to every Avantasia album. Yes let a crazy guitar solo every once in a while, but I disagree Hermann that Avantasia needs more guitars, I think that's what make the project unique. This is the brainchild of a singer/ keyboardist, Sascha is very subtle in what he does. One of the finest pieces of work in my opinion is "the scarecrow". But would love to see you guys do something together. All the Best!
Herman, I guess you have the same attitude as Emppu Vourinen (Nightwish): " A rock song starts with a guitar solo, have a guitar solo in the middle, and ends with a guitar solo"
i love the avantasia project , am from spain , in europe , and i m agree with herman , so i say the same , we need powerfull guitars and chords of course , it s the main riff whateaver , but the project need a couple of flashy solos on that great songs !!!!
A collab between your two bands? By the lord, that would be beyond awesome! I tell you what, you get on the next album, I get tour tickets! But I have to agree the guitar solos are often times to short, like in Moonglow.
I agree with your analysis. Great song, Floor is an amazing singer and seems like a genuine person. The lyrics have that northern european vibe of English as a second language, which comes across uniquely poetic.

RIP.
Amazing male voice and way of singing also what can someone says for Floor Jansens voice??Is like an angel if we can imagine how an angel sings!!
@Ben i used to listen a lot to Epica and Kamelot back in the days. Now it’s more Nightwish and Epica in the Symphonic genre.
when Tobi relese new song 1st you add it to playlist then listen how great it is
Avantasia is one of my favorite band.. His voice is amazing
Avantasia's first 2 metal operas are my favorites. I wish he'd make a metal opera 3 to explain what happened to the two when they walked off into New adventure
Dream combination would be Herman Li ft. Floor Jansen, Tommy Johansson, and Tobias Sammet
Lacking a drummer there...Aquiles maybe?
@@alexandre_am or Hannes.
@@Metal_Auditor good option of course! Just thought of Aquiles 'cause he's already played with Dragonforce
Maybe Vlad from Jinjer on drums, just for variety.
@@christoneymobile he’s definitely very good as well.
Floor is one of the most amazing singers 💕 No matter what she sings.
When I first saw you talk about Avantasia I was incredibly excited, since it's my favourite music thing ever
The idea of a dragonforce x avantasia collab is so amazing to me
That is an equilibrated analysis Herman, well done. And surely a collab between you and Tobi would be great!!!
I would love a Dragonforce/Avantasia collab. Please. Please. Please. Make that happen
A simple guitar solo. Beautiful and inspired by this great melody.
I like to listen to it over and over again.
Cheers
Saludos desde México esperamos pronto su visita!!! Se Miss You guys
Love the new Avantasia song. Your analysis is spot on. Your offer for guest appearances as a way to get past any bad blood from the past was pure class. I salute you for that, and hope it happens.
Herman, Oliver and Sascha, together, playing...Good idea🤘I'll buy a ticket to see this😇 Geetings from Poland, take care Guys and Girls😈
Awesome idea Herman, great proposal and i do hope this collaboration whenever it happens to be unique, majestic and fruitful both ways.
Floor was asked to sing the Dutch National Anthem a couple of days ago on Zandvoort (the racing track) because of her singing skills.
Spot on. It’s actually this song with Floor that introduced me to Avantasia. I’m going to listen more. Floor is a metal Goddess, as usual.
@@nottoday3817 How could you not mention the god himself Jorn Lande!
Same here!! Oh man I have so much music to listen to now
@Ben honestly I think both Floor and Simone are on the same level, they're my all time favourite vocalists ever!
I’d love to see you interview Floor & maybe talk about a collab 😊
It appears the PRS is back to life 🤘🏼
Oh… and I absolutely want to ear you play the Silver Sky behind you 😊
Great song! Nice review, Herman! I really love all the bands you mentioned here! If DragonForce would team up and tour the world with a couple of them (Sonata, Rhapsody, Nightwish, Stratovarius …) it would be legendary, I think!
really love the song and you're very fun to watch too!
Of course we care about your opinion, Herman. That’s what I’m here for. An artist giving great educated opinion on music. Keep it up, my guy! 👍🏻👍🏻
I love Avantasia and Floor as a combo 🥰
Tobias Sammet singing on an DragonForce album and Herman Li doing an Avantasia solo sounds insane!
It should be taken a step further. Tobi should help make a DragonForce song, or Marc should guest on Avantasia. The reason is that Tobi has a way to figure out ways to pull out hidden parts of a singer's voice. Aren't you curious how he would use Marc's voice? Listen what he did with Michael Kiske.
Tobi should write the lyrics, they need it
I liked the video, your analysis and of course the new Avantasia song and complet album by the way.
RK
Oh yes, a collab with Tobi, that would be really nice 🤘🤩 Greetings from germany
I also loved your opinions about the current power metal scene - its amazing to hear it echo'd around like that, I feel bad for those that are getting shit on, I want them to keep doing awesome stuff
For the first time in my life I agree with Herman! More guitar solos plssss Sascha 🙏🙌 cheers 🍻
Hell yes! Please collaborate! I want to hear Tobi in Dragonforce and you in Avantasia!
Tobias is a really good lyricist. Avantasia has some of my favorite concept albums.
Check out the Nightwish Ghost Love Score at Wacken 2013 vid. Floor Jansen is immense. The Floorgasm near the end is incredible.
Lmao, Herman is well aware of Nightwish. They have played on the same stage many times.
The collab idea will be great! Would love to see it happening.
Hell yeah to the collaboration!!!
I think it's sn AWESOME idea, brother!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes really true avantasia and dragon force should collaborate and do some songs on the stage can't wait to see it come true
a Herman Li solo on an Avantasia album would be absolutely stunning
You should absolutely do a collab thing with Tobias!
Looking forward to how you will influence each others music.
Avantasia Part I, is such a good metal opera album, is a gift for the human kind.
That'd be awesome! Hope seen some colaboration soon from you two! : )
Herman... check out pre-1997 Marillion... you'd love Fish's singing and the music they spat out.
Where did he say that? NW songs don't have that many guitar solos
@@dac2007 The quote continues "but Tuomas don't agree"
@@darkiee69 🤣 well that I can believe
Herman you should do a video about your favourite classic power metal albums! Big yes to DF-Tobias collab
Go out on tour together!! Make a couple of songs collaboration, one on each band’s albums… A dream come true, astounding experience!
Saw Floor with Nightwish on May 20th 22. She definitely the best female singer out there. She's so versatile she can sing anything.

Thank you
i love the avantasia project , am from spain , in europe , and i m agree with herman , so i say the same , we need powerfull guitars and chords of course , it s the main riff whateaver , but the project need a couple of flashy solos on that great songs !!!!
A collab between your two bands?
By the lord, that would be beyond awesome!
I tell you what, you get on the next album, I get tour tickets!
But I have to agree the guitar solos are often times to short, like in Moonglow.
Magnus Karlsson is another musical genius, writing catchy songs for multiple singers and multiple projects.
Holy crap I would love to see that collaboration happen!!!!!!
I agree with your analysis. Great song, Floor is an amazing singer and seems like a genuine person. The lyrics have that northern european vibe of English as a second language, which comes across uniquely poetic.
Keep up the good work bro from Australia💀💀💀
