I’m currently in the background process for my home town department. They are a small agency, roughly 45 patrol officers. About how long would you say this process would take? I know it’s usually lengthy. Going into the oral board there was only 6 candidates.

Just got accepted for MNPD (Metro Nashville Police Department) and I got my test next week but I'm anxious about my background check, mainly because of my finances. if i have social media accounts that are not associated with my legal name wouldn't it be impossible for them to find? so i can just keep those a secret no? there is nothing incriminating just cringy shit on some lmao.
Were you live and the past places that you have lived impact on your resume. This is the police force you are applying for not a job flipping burgers. For instance the police force are extremely strict on certain criteria. Your family for instance has to be squeaky clean. If you grew up in the hood and your Dad has a criminal record and your Mom had run ins with the law and your brother is into crime and your sister is running with drug dealers you can forget a career in law enforcement. You might say well I am not like that and I don’t want to be like my family well that’s all very good but your family and their history impacts greatly on your chances of becoming a police officer. I know it’s harsh but only a select few qualify. You basically have to have good law abiding family. So many people don’t get excepted. Also the choices you made in the past, any brushes with the law will be reviewed. You also need to complete high school, have good grades, be consistent in attending school, if you were a trouble maker at school and a rebel, starting fights in the playground and bullying other kids you probably aren’t going to be excepted. You need to attend college after you graduate from high school now. I think you have to attend college for a year. The jobs you apply for to earn a living can have a huge impact on you being excepted as well. For instance taking a part time job as a bar tender or working in casinos and bars with slot machines, the managers that you work with and their back ground all have an impact on your chances of becoming a police officer. It’s basically about certificates and diplomas now. They are trying to keep the force as clean as they can now due to the bad apples that slipped through years ago. Police officers are constantly put under the radar now and even the places they go to on days off and who they associate with when off duty all come under the chiefs attention if you mess up. They don’t muck around now they only want the very best people being excepted into the force now. Clean your act up when it comes to dating young women too because who you are having a relationship with is also questionable. Police officers have to be careful where they live also for their own protection and their family’s protection, it doesn’t look good if you are renting an apartment in a down town area that is known for crime or if your apartment complex is a known place where drug dealers, alcoholics and prostitution is going on there. It’s all about location. Basically you have to be an outstanding law abiding citizen to be excepted into both the academy and the force.
While I appreciate the comment this is not completely accurate. Every aspect of your life is looked at but the individual is the one evaluated. Squeaky clean is not what we look for, rather someone who has both experience and can think well under pressure. College in not a mandatory for all departments, most do not require it and many are removing it as a requirement. Family is important but if you have a family member who's character is questionable that does not necessary affect you. Lot go into an evaluation and each candidate is looked at independently.
Because it’s a waste of time, I need to focus on the academy not social media. Also, not having personal information online is smart and safe when you’re a cop. Growing up my father made sure not even our house number was not listed anywhere in any public phone book as he was a narcotics and homicide detective in the NYPD and put away some serious people. And it stayed that way for 20 years. I’m 35, there was no social media back then, but that would have definitely been a no go as well.

Will a previous termination from a job (not law enforcement) affect or disqualify me automatically?
It won't immediately disqualify you but how you articulate the facts of the termination will determine if you move forward with the process.
I’m currently in the background process for my home town department. They are a small agency, roughly 45 patrol officers. About how long would you say this process would take? I know it’s usually lengthy. Going into the oral board there was only 6 candidates.
The length of the process is dependant on you background investigator and how easy it is to confirm your information. I have seen it done in as little as a few weeks and as long as a year.
@@armogantraining7164 thank you for the reply. I know it takes time but man is this a anxious part.
Also explain the birth certificate copy issue. What type do you need. Where to get it etc. please
Depends on the department if they need original or copy. You can usually request new official BC from your state vital records or similar department
Just got accepted for MNPD (Metro Nashville Police Department) and I got my test next week but I'm anxious about my background check, mainly because of my finances. I was deployed to Europe a year ago and the army messed up my pay and I missed some payments and it hit my credit bad, it's a 620 now and I'm worried that will disqualify me, I have no criminal record and I never have done drugs before. I got 3 months left in the army and I'm anxious that my finances will get me dropped. Metro is down bad for officers and it took them 3 hours to look into my job application and to say I was approved for testing so I'm hoping that will be in my favor but do you think I will be fine?

Hi man, I used to smoke weed often in my early college days but I don’t do it any more. Should I share this information or just say I have never smoked weed?
Never lie just articulate the facts.
Would something that is on my parent's background count against me if the incident happened when i was an adult and didn't live there? I was not involved in the incident or ever contacted by law enforcement about it.
Yes and no. Yes because the will look at who you associate with and if course family. And no because there direct actions won't cross over to you as long as you weren't involved
I have a question, 6 years ago I was let go of my job because I had weed in my system. Would that dis-qualify me for the job? Since then I’ve had a few other jobs but haven’t smoked since
Won't disqualify you but will be a hurdle to explain.
So for the background check I understand that the view your social medias is it best for me to go ahead and delete my social medias and clear my name off the internet the best I can before I apply?
Not necessary, but you do want to make sure there is nothing unprofessional on it.

I am planning on becoming a police officer. My record is squeaky clean. I am a shy, soft spoken, and nice lady. But for some reason how will the police ask my family questions about me when my family hates me. My aunt hates me. I left my jacket at her house and she threw it in the trashcan, my aunt's husband hates me, my cousins hates me, my cousins kids hates me, my oldest sister hates me, my oldest sister kids hates me. How can I become a cop if they say no they're not talking to the police? My cousin was talking to me last month but when I asked her what kind of person you will say I am? She said shy, very soft spoken, and I could tell you have a good heart, but I don't like you. And I was like what? So I asked her if the police ask you what kind of cop I will be would you tell them she said no because I don't like you. It worked not be hard to find them. And now you may have just admitted to using an alais so keep that in mind.
Wouldn’t deleting all social media 3 months or more be the smartest thing. It’s a waste of time anyways.
They will ask why you deleted and it can loo suspicious
Because it’s a waste of time, I need to focus on the academy not social media. Also, not having personal information online is smart and safe when you’re a cop. Growing up my father made sure not even our house number was not listed anywhere in any public phone book as he was a narcotics and homicide detective in the NYPD and put away some serious people. And it stayed that way for 20 years. I’m 35, there was no social media back then, but that would have definitely been a no go as well.
