Let me preface my comments by saying I remember when this movie came out. The first time I saw it, the theater crowd was average in size. By the fifth time or so (yeah - no VCRs or anything back then) it was a packed house! For some reason, YT started giving me lots of recommends for “The Car”... and that lead me to rewatch it after all these years. Yes, it's in my *DVD* collection. I really don't know how it got there; maybe, like the car itself, it just showed up. Anyway, I read some reviews online and the authors said the movie is silly, that the special effects are cheap. What are they smoking? Let's start with “silly.” Guess these reviewers never watched any of the glut of zombie movies that infest the cinematic realm like bedbugs... “Resident Evil?” What about “A Quiet Place?” Or “Brightburn?” Is “The Car” any “sillier” than those? I think not. And I bet everyone reading this can offer more moves that are “sillier” than “The Car.” Special effects/Visuals: It was 1977! That being said, they hold up very well. The roll-over the two police cars is epic. As is flying through the living room window. Even the ending was definitely passable. Even though I read comments by someone who worked on the film saying they wished the ending fireball had been more spectacular. The biggest plus? NO CGI! Everything looks real. It has a grittiness to it that is absent in the sterile world of CGI effects. Now for my personal rating, which means nothing to anyone else: Sets/Visuals “A” Rating! Going on location to Utah and remote areas of So Cal instead of using the old standbys of Vasquez Rocks, Devil's Punch Bowl and studio back lots makes “The Car” shine! The car itself is a masterpiece of design. Music “A” Rating. Enough said. Action “A-” It has a few low spots but not many. Acting Have to think about this one a bit. Either a B+ or an A-. There are some spots where the dialog is a little off, but Ronny Cox, Brolin and that old curmudgeon RG Armstrong make it shine'!! "Farting music!” Never forget that one! Overall rating has to be no less than an A-, maybe better. For some reason, this movie has always been one of my favorites. And it made a 💩💩💩💩💩load of money!
This is my favorite all-time "horror flick". I first saw it when I was 7 years old. Don't know how that happened. But I was instantly obsessed with finding it again. it had been on CBS countless times in the late nights, so as a kid, I could never stay up that late. I tore a page out of TV Guide and did a recording of the words on the page. That movie really affected me, can ya tell? LOL My big brother thinks it's so stupid. I really hate the "sequel", and I said, "they ruined it!" my brother said, "You can't ruin something like that any further." LOL
@@dalenjurgens6751 Sequels rarely rise to the level of the original. See: Almost any one ever made. The barrel roll crash into the two police cars is often criticized for being cheesy, but I thought it was even better to see the car fly apart into a million pieces and then emerge from a fireball intact. Then there is (or was) R.G. Armstrong. Anything with him is worth a watch. I'm a fan of Perry Mason, and R.G. was in a couple of those about 17 years earlier. And there he is: looking the same! His crusty old codger role fit his looks perfectly!
@@ADBLOCKER4UA-cam When I found out about RG, I was glad that he was in the movie. He was a big star in his day for sure. The fact that The Car was indestructible was scary to me at 7 years old. lol Great movie!

3:04 🤣 Funny roll attack.
460 cu inch big block with open pipes what a great tune 😍😁
I have a 75 Lincoln Mark IV with a 460. Very powerful engine.
Sequel, not the crappy sequel they recently did..Gotta do one with Josh Brolin, he would be awesome!
I agree. It would be titled "RETURN OF THE CAR: HELL ON WHEELS."
@@AldenRDavis That's not Josh, it's James.
@@MassimoCalderaro-u8h James is too old to reprise his role. His son Josh would be great. :)
3:05 Saudi Arabia car crash be like:
4:58 Is there a driver in The Car driving the car?
I hope?
As a black woman I once worked with said...."Only the Devil!"
No
It was actually a 71 Mark 3.
69 -71 lincoln continental yes.
Most probably the only car ever made that could beat full blown fuel dragsters hands down at the local drag strip....and, laugh while doing it.
Bellissima scena 👍
5:07🤣
Unfortunately, the car is indestructible.
Yup....written right into the producer's script just that way!

I worked with a black woman at the time this movie was released. She often said, in awe...."That car was driven by the DEVIL!"
