    Jill is so captivating, doesn't matter that she is talking about. That voice, her tone, her choice of words.

    I don't understand why people never mention Drake's "blaccent" that he gets when he starts rapping. He's not from any hood anywhere in the USA or Canada. He grew up in a middle class white neighborhood in Toronto and starred on a hit television series where we all watched him and how he talked there and in real life. It's polar opposite to his image now and how he speaks in his music. But he gets a pass because he's "half" black.

    • @SHAKHIR2
      @SHAKHIR2 9 років тому +16

      I've been saying that as well. It's okay if Drake portrays and perpetuates a stereotype that he never ever directly experienced _because_ he's black? That's reverse racism.
      It slightly parallels people who bash Iggy for having a "fake" butt yet applaud Nicki for the same thing. It's difficult to tell whether they're serious or sardonic.

      but nicki gets criticism for her fake butt... i'll just say as someone from Australia...Iggy's rapping accent is very fake and forced and sounds fucking horrible. Not to mention her music is trash but she gets accolades like "best hip hop artist" tf? Forbes magazine wrote an article about Iggy and the title was "Hip hop is run by a white Australian woman"..i think people dislike her because she obviously sucks yet she is being shoved down our throats. Also, Canadian accents sound a lot like American accents anyway so its not like Drake is forcing a fake accent so u cant compare him to Iggy in that sense. Whether he portrays a fake persona in his music is a different story.

If they say something too crazy then they have to deal with idiots with no lives calling them names on twitter because their little feelings were hurt. So its not worth it to them. I bet you anything that they feel a lot stronger than what they are saying but they don't want to deal with the drama.

    BABY! When Jill's first album came out. I bought early in the morning and played it after school non-stop. Just feel good soul music. A Long Walk and Gettin' in the Way will always be my favorites. I need Hidden Beach Jill Scott on this new album. She tried the hip hop thing and it was coo', but uh uh. I need real r&b. I know she can do it. Eve is coo'. I've never owned an Eve album, but when she's on the radio, I won't change the station. When she's on tv, I won't change the channel. I loved her sitcom. Glad they didn't give that wack ass MC Lyte type politically correct answer. I have a better solution for Iggy. Give her a huge pay out and make her sign a contract to NEVER do "music" again. That would make my year.

    I feel where Eve and Jill are comin' from as far as Iggy is concerned. As a child of music, she doesn't upset me as far as being in the hip hop genre, my only issue is the issue that was spoken of here in this interview; and that's her "blaccent". It would be dope to hear her flow in her Australian accent, you know...where she's from. She's not from Atlanta or from the south so why choose to sound like someone from there? That's what I don't get. Much respect to her success though. But I see how people are a little "confused" so to speak.

    • @mrcal18
      @mrcal18 9 років тому +3

      ***** Yeah bruh, she's a caricature artist at best. I don't know who told her that what's she's doing is cool, but I agree, it needs to stop.

      The fact that she is not rapping her in accent means that she doesn't know how to do that. Leave the girl alone

    • @anuskawebster
      @anuskawebster 9 років тому +3

      I just feel like they going in on her all because of her "blaccent" is they just being petty. The girl came here when she was 15. & how old is she now?? At some point your accent changes when you live somewhere for a long time.

    • @mrcal18
      @mrcal18 9 років тому +15

      Anuska Webster Nah, she still sounds Australian in her interviews and sounds like a bad impression of a southern chick in her music. That's what everybody has an issue with. People aren't taking away the fact that she may be talented, but people wanna hear what she has in her natural accent and dialect.

    • @anuskawebster
      @anuskawebster 9 років тому +2

      But the way i seeing it this and Jill scott said it aswell. Everyone has their influences. So maybe she grew up lisining to hip hop and liked the bratt' styl, music, flow are whatever. Why does that make her "fake or not being herself" all of a sudden. If she wants to rap with an "blaccent" thats her preference. No one should be judging her preformances are the way she handles herself. Its just petty and a dubbel standard.

    Wow, they really won't let Iggy enjoy her success. but singers get a pass when they sing in american accents ? but y'all wanna label iggy as having a blaccent ?
    Nicki Minaj has done pop music, raps about the gang life and was never in a gang nor was she ever a gang banger. She's spoken in british accents, wore blond wigs, stole Lil' Kim's entire image but nobody has questioned her authenticity or has made her feel undeserving of her success. Like beyonce channelling Tina because thats who she emulated. We shouldn't be offended when a white artist loves our culture and emulates what they grew up on. MANY BLACK ARTISTS appropriate other cultures and it always gets a pass. Why do you y'all have a problem with a white female hip-hop artist ? Iggy has her own sound and lane. let her do her thing. There are so many black artists on the come up who you should be promoting and supporting, y'all talk about the "state of hip hop" so much but will allow garbage on the charts. go and support your own people if Iggy is such a problem for y;all. it's sad to see. and i dont wanna see ANYONE say "Hip hop is diverse or world wide" anymore. because clearly people want it to be a "Only black" thing.

    • @lalalilmary2
      @lalalilmary2 9 років тому +22

      singing is different. Many can not really tell who has an accent when singing. But sometimes you can hear. Even in Adele's music you can hear her accent slightly at times. This is due to the rhythm and tune of a song. It also depends on who's listening. Some can tell the difference between Texas country and Tennessee country singers but to many they can not, they just sound southern. To the rest of the comment, especially iggy having her own sound and lane? I'll just laugh at that and walk away. It's obvious you do not understand the conversation at all but see it as people picking on her

    • @Caotic3
      @Caotic3 9 років тому +2

      Mary D i will not stand for hypocrisy. idk why iggy is everybody's scapegoat all of a suddent. there are so many people in music who are fraudulent and have spoken and done horrible things but nobody questions their authenticity or forms together to cast them out the industry like they are doing to iggy. people need to re-examine their priorities.

    • @ldw102577
      @ldw102577 9 років тому +7

      I understand your point but do you understand their point. Eve and Jill's point? I do not agree with everyone who goes against ugh. But I agree with them. There are Australian rappers that did not loose their accent! There is a hip hop culture that I googled and why didn't iggy represent that!! There is only one other white rapper I listen to- eminem!!! And to me! I am just saying TO ME, HE DOES NOT HAVE THE "blaccent". But of course I am in my late 30s. So there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between a rapper and a MC/Lyricist!!! I grew up listening to MCs that rapped about something other than hoes and drugs. I have not bought I full rap/ hip hop (and there is a difference) since 98 or 99. And the most recent is just a couple of songs of the watch the throne album. So my point is to me it's not just her being "black" and sounding like everyone else. But to me! Once again I am saying In my opinion I would prefer to listen to any MC that can spit and the beat is good and they are talking about something.

    Philly in the building!! I love me some Eve & Jill!! I really respect Eve and Jill's opinion on Iggy. I so agree! I dont really think Iggy is HipHop I think she is HipPop to me. A dope beat with poppy like lyrics. Eve is Hip Hop! I remember buying her first album in 99', album still goes hard!! I think these new categories are just ridiculous! Iggy's ''Fancy'' was a nice record, catchy but I just dont see where her music is HipHop. Im no hater by means! I think it would be far more dope if she were herself. Nowadays its hard to respect this era because the feeling of it brings no originality. But I will say I'm really ready for my girl Jill to drop a new album!! Lord I play her first one to death!! Classic!! My girl Jill doing big things and looking stunning!

      JusSick24 first off you're a weirdo for going "ha" for someone not responded. Excuse me I have a life. Secondly when did I say it wasn't ok for her to be herself. Thirdly, I HIGHLY doubt she'd be who she is or anywhere as big with an Aussie flow can't see that "crossing over" because it hasn't. Can you? To say so is a lie. But was has been successful for this lady is "borrowing a flow" and whyyy did she "borrow" this flow? Because she grew up to our shit...

    IGGY is NOT really IGGY ( the artist the persona) she writes 0 and I Mean 0 of her Raps Songs . SKEME the Rapper from LA wrote all of her songs on the New Classic and her pervious Mixtape and HE IS (a BLACK MAN) that's why she SOUNDS SO BLACK. People are NOT STUPID they can see she's Unauthentic, And NOT herself on record, Because SHE didn't write the song she's mimicking the writes delivery and tone .
    *From the start IGGY had a NUMBER of BLACK Male and FEMALE Rappers write for her.
    In all their bios on twitter they are songwriters and have written for her .
    Skeme @Skeme( He's written for Rita Ora , & Iggy)
    Gizzle @BxtchImGizzle(she's written for Snoop, T.I. ,Trey Songs, Iggy, Boys Noize, B.O.B, TY$, YG) Iggy met Gizzzle thur T.i. because Gizzle has been writing for T.I for YEARS!!!
    STIX (@wattsStix) Snoop Iggy - he wrote the"Murder Business"

      Most of these rappers aren't authentic or themselves on record though. Drake talking about catching bodies, Rick Ross raps like he a cocaine cowboy, and I can go on and on. So if she's not authentic, it's a problem? Lol y'all are a trip.

    My fellow blacks, since when did we become this petty, insecure, bitter and over indulgent?
    Our music is perceived as compelling enough to evoke attention and emulation from others, and we react with anger, respite and envy.
    Nobody, culture or people has exclusive rights to their specific culture. Culture is an evolutionary attribute that has always been shared, imitated and emulated by various civilizations in history.
    This conversation has gone on for too long and is in fact, becoming rather irritating and annoying. Blacks sitting on their asses and presiding over who is qualified enough to copy their culture or not. How silly and pathetic.

    just sayin--i have no opinion on iggy--or jill scott..but saying that..i do respect jill scotts music..but its very fu$%ing funny that jill scott replied to iggy the way she did about she dont come from where the music came from..but a few minutes ago..she said she was importing COUNTRY into her music? makes no fu#$#sense at all... ----------- still thinking about that..and still dont get it.. the pot calling the kettle black (no pun intended)

    • @itsallyvee

      country music is still american music, because she's black doesn't mean she can't have a country influence in her music. being influenced by something is totally different to totally different to straight RIPPIN it. so, no, she did not contradict herself. she means that Iggy - in her music - is not representing who she is in real life. she's rippin an american accent, a black sound (and i'm not talking about hip hop - anyone can do hip hop) and she even bought herself a brand new fat ass so...you're not making sense to me

      hiphopgamer215 Some black women... I see interracial couples all the time. I smile at them, they smile back. I especially love to see families. The babies are adorable. My family history is something of mixed brew and I accept it and other peoples choice on it.

    Eve and Jill is entitled to their opinions but their opinions doesn't carry any fair logic. They talk about her authenticity but correct me if I'm wrong. About 90 percent of the rappers are fake. It's okay for Rick Ross to capitalize off of selling himself as a cocaine cowboy when he was a CO. Drake rapped about catching bodies and I can go on and on. Why is this cool? It's all entertainment until Iggy does it. Some of y'all need to stop!
