Hi! Awesome video! I was wondering, what pinion size you are running aswell as what motor mount you are using? Im guessing that stock pin system wont work with the M1.5 gears as its different ratios?
I am currently running a 21 tooth pinion with the bowhouse rc mount. No the pin system is only good for the stock gears. Any aftermarket gears need to be set by hand. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
@@DoRC hey Do RC, I’ve sub’d and liked and have a similar question as RC Oliver. On your Bowhouse rc mount did you need to use the risers for your gear set up? Yes you can. Check out my video on the GPM mod 1.5 gear. They sell a set that includes a 5 mm pinion. M2C actually just released a front end bell replacement for the stock motor that allows you to use it with aftermarket mounts. Combine those two things and you can achieve that goal:)
Yes that's not a problem although 5 mm bore mod 1.5 gears can be kind of hard to find. They do make 8 mm to 5 mm adapter sleeves though. Determining your gear ratio is easy. All you have to do is divide smaller number by the larger number of what you currently have. Then take the resulting number of that and divide your new spur gear tooth count by it. For instance if you have a 50/20 right now 50 / 20 is 2.5. You would then divide 35 by 2.5 to get 14 which is what you would want for opinion to get the same ratio you currently have.
Just bought the set which is 35T 12T mod 1.5. just fitted it with the stock motor and pin system on the stock setting, mesh seems a bit tight is this correct?
@@GBigToe You don't want to use the pins for anything other than the stock factory Traxxas gears. Anything else and you need to set the mesh by hand. Mod 1.5 gears are more tolerant to any kind of issues you have including chassis flex so it's never a bad idea to go with it on the xmax. As far as I'm concerned this is the best mod 1.5 spur cuz it allows you to keep your cush drive.
To keep the exact stock gearing ratio of 3:1 you would need a 15 tooth pinion gear. Thanks for watching and if you aren't already subscribed a sub is appreciated :-)

@DoRC thanks. Been digging thru your videos as I can anyway since I'm waiting on my traxxas gears to show up . But wanna order something like this juat cause it seems way better!. Thanks for all the info too
Maybe if you were going to put a really big motor in there. It's hard to find 5 mm bore mod 1.5 pinion gears so that's something to keep into consideration as well. With the stock system or even a slightly more powerful system I think that quality mod 1 gears are probably sufficient. Thanks for watching and if you enjoy my videos a sub to my channel is appreciated!
@brainiacproductions6031 ah. You can do the conversion yourself. Divide one gear by the other to get the ratio. Then you can just use that ratio to figure out the number of teeth on the other gear pitch. So for instance 50/20 would be 2.5 to 1. Divide 35 / 2.5 to get 14 which gives you the equivalent pinion tooth count
That definitely helps but the x-max is kind of special because unlike most RC's the spur gear Mount is not directly connected to the motor mount. Which means there's flex between them so even if you're not on the gas if you land a big jump in the chassis flexes it can force the gears into or away from each other damaging them which will lead to them stripping the next time you hit the gas.
@@DoRC guess it's all the metal parts you put in. Making more flex on the plastic. Seems like more power/weight just causes bigger problems then you had to begin with. But to each there own. Cheers bud
@@coolhawk2003 actually it'll happen with just the stock setup if you go with a bigger motor. People even have problems with just the absolute stock setup if the jumps are big enough. Pretty much everything that I have put in my x-maxx has been a response to a weakness in the truck. The way it's set up now it's essentially bulletproof for the kind of bashing I do.
@@DoRC ok so dont change my motor and I wont have problems that I have to fix. Thanks for the tip. Why ruin a good thing hey by. Looks like where you drive you dont need all the power anyways. So why you put the motor in it ? Or was it a just cause kind of thing ? Thanks again
@@coolhawk2003 I found the x max to be a little underpowered for my driving style which is why I upgraded. That being said it's a perfectly fun truck out of the box and if you're happy with it stay with it :-)
@@DoRC if u use a 54 u need like a 18 set on C .if u use a 50 with 24 it is like example set on I. So u need some sort of relation with the spur and pinion.
Ah. So you can figure out the ratio by just dividing what you currently have. So if you have a 54/18 That would be 3/1 ratio. You can then divide the new spur by the larger number of that ratio to get the new opinion tooth count so 35 / 3 would be 11.6 So you could either use an 11 or 12 tooth pinion to get as close as possible to the original ratio.

Divide 35 / 2.5 to get 14 which gives you the equivalent pinion tooth count
Wouldn't not landing on power stop this? If you landing don't gas it. Every rc breaks that way
That definitely helps but the x-max is kind of special because unlike most RC's the spur gear Mount is not directly connected to the motor mount.
That being said it's a perfectly fun truck out of the box and if you're happy with it stay with it :-)
Can I do that on my XRT ?
Absolutely! The XRT and x-max use the exact same gears.
Are these still available? I can't find them
The US distributor contact for MMM is in the description.
@@DoRC thank you bud. I am uk and tried to look on their website but couldn't find it. I will see if the US guy will post to me thanks bud 👊🏼
Try contacting them through the website. They are in Germany so should be able to ship to you
again with what ration what pin on a 35t?
I'm sorry I'm not sure I understand what you're asking
@@DoRC if u use a 54 u need like a 18 set on C .if u use a 50 with 24 it is like example set on I. So u need some sort of relation with the spur and pinion.
Ah. So you can figure out the ratio by just dividing what you currently have. So if you have a 54/18 That would be 3/1 ratio. You can then divide the new spur by the larger number of that ratio to get the new opinion tooth count so 35 / 3 would be 11.6 So you could either use an 11 or 12 tooth pinion to get as close as possible to the original ratio.
@@DoRC Thats what i need. Thanks!
What would be close to 20/50 if I have a 35 spur?Sorry new guy here
I find cush drive elongates the hole with powerful engines
I'm running the 1100 KV motor on mine and I really haven't had any issues other than having to replace the rubber occasionally. Maybe if you're running something really big The experience would be different. Thanks for watching and sub is appreciated!
I do not have Facebook, is there any other way to get this gear?
Not that I'm aware of unfortunately. GPM and hot racing are making similar gears now though that you might want to check out. Thanks for watching and if you enjoy my videos a sub to my channel is appreciated :-)
@@DoRC Thanks man, much appreciated. I just picked up a used X-Maxx 8s and am looking at some reliability mods. I am sure the performance will be good to start with. 🙂
Does it have the stock power system? If it does I'm pretty sure GPM has model 1.5 with the 5 mm pinion gear. X-Max is awesome I'm sure you'll enjoy!
@@DoRC Yes, all stock. I ordered a Hot Racing 46 Tooth Spur and 3 of the Arrma Safe-D5 Pinions (20, 23, 25 Tooth). The Arrma pinion has a D shaped hole, which should help the pinion stay on and in alignment. The GPM stuff has to come slow boat from overseas and is not too expensive, so I will order that as well and have spares. I'm sure that can never hurt... Thanks again for all the info.
How can we order if we do not use Facebook?I don’t want them censoring my rc cars either.
Fortunately if you want to order it and here in the USA you're going to have to go through Facebook messenger.
Thanks for watching and if you aren't very subscribed a sub is greatly appreciated!
Kenny, i shot you a DM on Facebook from JP! Can you link me to these and give a longevity report!
Not a problem :-)
What this 35t sput gear price at?
I message him but no response
thanks in advance!
Let me follow up and see why he's not responding. I believe they are $80 each if I remember correctly. It's a lot but if you calculate adding a $23 saga pinion to it you're not that far off from what the competing mod 1.5 gear sets cost.
Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
@@DoRC thanks a lot i'll keep that in mind
Tried links thru Facebook. Nothing comes up. Do you have a link to purchase the spur from?
As far as I know the only way to purchase is by contacting the US distributor through his Facebook contact in the description. What happened when you tried to use that link? I just checked it and it does seem to still work.
@@DoRC It just went to some guys page. Nothing to do with the gear
Yeah you were at the right place. Just message him through the page. Bit of a strange setup but he's a stand-up guy and is the US distributor for mmm. FYI I'm not affiliated with them in any way. Thanks for watching a sub is appreciated!
Do you have the link?
@@DoRC oh. Ok. Gotchya. Tysm for your help
It shows that I can’t even follow him or send him a message on messenger
That's weird. I just verified that the link is still working and he is there. Might just be a glitch. I suggest trying again tomorrow. Please let me know if it still doesn't work.
@@DoRC I just got it to work for some reason it didn’t work the first try lol
Ok good.
Where is the link to buy these?
The US distributors Facebook information is in the description. Just contact him and he'll take care of you.
Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated :-)
Where can these be purchased?
Is a link to the US distributors Facebook contact information in the description. Last I checked he was out of stock but should be getting a restock soon. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated :-)
Thank god now people dont have to buy the over priced junk!! From WFO
Most people get pretty good use out of WFO gears but there are a lot more options out these days! Thanks for watching :-)
@@DoRC iv know people shattering gears, damaging their drive train and snapping motor shalfs! The cush drive is there for a reason! It's all about greed and money with that guy! But anyways great video pal it should help alot of people out
I agree that the Kush drive does help a lot but they're also a lot of people that don't run them and do so successfully. It is definitely good to have different options though :-)
Gruß aus Deutschland 🇩🇪😀😀👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
I'm going belt drive lot more room for errors
How does belt drive give more room for errors?
@DoRC with the chassis flex the gears jam and blow motor bearings a belt will just slip or break 10 dollar belts better then 200 dollar motors
Hmm. Maybe. I found with a good motor mount and mod 1.5 gears it's not really an issue. I've also found that with the belt it reverses the forces on the Spurs shaft which tends to try to pull the spur shaft cover off. This can be mitigated with longer screws and a aluminum spur shaft cover but I still think that mod 1.5 gears is the best option.
Glad the belt is working for you though! Thanks for watching and if you enjoy my videos a sub to my channel is appreciated :-)
it is stock motor?
No im running the hobbywing 1100kv motor with mmx8s esc. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated :-)
Surely you’re welcome
@@RobertCarrizal :)
u don’t need it unless u r jumping it 20 feet high constantly lol
Pretty much exactly what I do :-) a lot of other people jump high quite often as well. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
I broke mine last week jumping maybe 10 feet. It was my first day jumping the Xmaxx too. Granted, I did land flat on the top which probably caused major flex...
@sebasjon33 you mean the stock spur?
Dumb, you need a facebook account just to order, I guess I'll pass.
Yeah thats how they have it setup. Im not affiliated with them but you might be able to email mmm from their website for alternatives. I think you can use ig account for fb messenger too. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated:)
GPM have some now and I guess this way is not a option with standard motor.
Yep. Looks like you saw my newer video on it :-)
you cant use a stock motor ?
@@mattgrill7713 You can but most mod 1.5 gears are 8mm bore. GPM makes a set for the stock setup though.
