Yes absolutely ! As an aherant of surbahar/sitar since mid sixties, its such a stretch back in time. Brian was influenced by north african flute/drumming, Harrison, classic north Indian music, those were interesting times. There were many musicians experimenting with cross over music, I was lucky enough to be there and involved. All of my contemporaries seem to be passing, my time is coming, it's been a most interesting experience,

Yes Mark. Something from that period. They say he used to fly down to N. Africa and explore and do psychedelics. Too much DMT. A very different drug than LSD. Not that I'm advocating either but I did them. I also ended up playing the recorder(s) like a lead guitar not so dissimilar; but this is trance music. Joujouka recording could've used some of this. I hear a bass in there. I played along with it you see. They would play and play and play to reach some state of Nirvana I guess. But methinks they took Brian down a rabbit hole. Dark spirituality. Primitive stuff. I do believe he was seeking freedom. First him and then Jimi...looking for love but they went too far out and didn't land in a nice supportive place to recover and move on. Sadly.

I honestly think you’re right about what he was actually looking for. Same thing for Jimi. As for recorders, I think those are awesome instruments. Brian brought so much to the music with it and all the other cool instruments he played.

Not denying Brian's genius, but producing the Master Musicians of Joujouka involved him pointing a microphone in their general direction & recording the results onto tape. But yes, good for him for recognising what he was hearing, while many of his contemporaries would have dismissed those sounds exotic to the European ear.. I have been to Joujouka and they idolise him there.

Not bad but this is a 90's remix or rather a total remake of some of the Joujouka material. It has basically nothing to do with Brian Jones. The bass, guitars, drums and effects have all been added in the 90's. Even the original recording had nothing to do with Brian apart from him commissioning the recording of it. It was an early foray into trying to expose world music to a rock audience and I guess Brian deserves credit for that.

Brian joins the Doors and takes up the missing role of bass player, then produces this kind of thing with that band. Wow. There's a thought.

Imagine if history had him still with The 'Stones? If they'd still the chemistry to create music together? I first heard 'em early in 1964, listenin' to 'Out of Our Heads' and '12x5' Albums.
Absolutely loved 'em, but, nonetheless bought - parents bought me - a Beatles' jacket. Meanwhile, the great sounds of late '50 to '64 are permeating our ears. Am grateful.
