One of the best pets I’ve ever owned was a domesticated ferret named Julie. We acquired her as a baby, litter box trained, and playful as hell. She would play catch and retrieve, hide and seek, sneak up and playfully attack, and would fall asleep in our laps. She was very affectionate with everyone. We would take her camping with us, let her out to play, and she always returned on her own. Her little chitter chatter and purring was amazing. We truly miss that little gift!
We had a ferret and he was the best pet ever! He didn't use a liter box, but he would scratch at the door and make the cutest chattering sound till we let him outside; then he would come back to the door when he was ready. He would curl up in our laps as he enjoyed cuddling with his humans. We also had this huge dog at the time, and he was stupid. He wouldn't leave our ferret alone, he just wanted to play with it but the ferret did not like that big dog at all. Now think about how long the ferret's body is, and how sharp it's teeth are. One day we heard our dog whining at the door. It sounded like he was being hurt but we couldn't see any reason for his whining until we got him inside. As he walked over the threshold, still whining, we saw the problem. Our ferrett had his teeth sunk into the dog's testicles and his body was just hanging down from them as he had a grip on them with his teeth. We tried to get the ferret to let go, but he was hanging on for dear life! Our dog was so tall that the ferret's feet didn't even touch the floor. Poor dog was whining the whole time. We knew not to try to pull on the ferret, but simply tried other measures to get that rascal to let go. I hate to say it, but although we felt horror for what was happening but at the same time watching the scene was also kind of comical, seeing that ferret dangling from our poor dog. Finally, i got a squirt bottle with water and sprayed the ferret, who immediately let go and scampered away! That dog learned to leave the ferret alone after that!
Hopefully you see this.. if you dont mind answering.. how long did your little ferret baby live for? Mine is around 2 years old now. My wife had 2 ferrets bwforeni met her that lived for 13 years!! Online it says they ususallu live 5-7 urs.. that is too short of a life!!
"domesticated ferret" is redundant there is no such thing as a "wild ferret" there are only ferrets that have escaped domestication and gone feral. Ferrets have been domesticated for thousands of years same as dogs and cats they are now a different animal than their ancestor (the european polecat) just as dogs are no longer wolves. Fish and game agencies classing them as "wild" is just an excuse they use to keep them illegal in some places.
You missed some important information.... Ferrets have three or four extra vertebra than humans. Combined with their thick skin this is critical for their defence in the wild as they can turn and bite. They are remarkably flexible. A bit like a slinky. 😃
Their spinous process (the little things sticking out of each vertebrae) is actually a lot shorter in ferrets allowing them to bend their backs more then others
@@zuluwarrior1648 There latin name stands for stinky little thief. However its all relative, i own 6 and they freely roam my house, when i asked friends this question they always say the same thing, they would smell the scent of dog before the smell of the ferrets. It reallyis over blown because they have scent glands but more for inter species communicating. kinda like how another dog can smell if a dog is in heat, but humans can tell because they cant pick up those scents.
Actually really tremendous ground game. Knowing that allowing it close, gets it closer to the neck and game over. No fear of an armbar so the extended hands was ok.
Yeah those ground squirrels are hella impressive......the one that kept charging it and throwing it off mentally, plus the one fighting defensively on its back. It makes sense because weasels always try to jump on the back of animals and disable their neck/spine by biting through it, so the ferret was not able to land its kill bite dragging it off somewhere.
I just wished they live longer. Many people who don own them think they are like a rabbit or bird or hamster, but the attachment is like a dog or cat and is really difficult to loose them after 6-10 years. This is the only down side i found with ferrets, the attachment gets so great because of how great a companion they make that the pain from there death is harsh espeially when you own a few, because they only last 6 years and finding an "exotics" vet is difficult. Even emergenciy visits often require 3 weeks wait. Because 1 exotics vet in all northern New england. And now that new laws were passed and petco no longer sells them, that means alot less ferret owners and therefor alot less ferret support and supplies. Here is a tip, if you havent already, get freeze dried raw chicken, or better yet get them exposed to eating raw as kits, You can often get free butcher clippings and go online to find out what ratio you think yours would do good with, I got all my ferrets from the same place, but only the past 3 years have i used freeze dried raw and i noticed all my new ferrets raised on the diet are double the size of the older ones who were raised on kibble.
Very misleading video. Ferrets are domesticated polecats. The Blackfoot ferret is actually a wild animal and ermine are stoats in their winter coat. Although related they're different animals
Yes agreed. I had to look up Ermine though, not actually closely related to ferrets at all. Stoats and weasels are more closely related to otters, minks and martens.
Spot on Kelly. They made several mistakes that could have been avoided with some more research. I believe that the domesticated ferret comes from the European Polecat.
Yeah! Well done. Love the little furry beasts. One friend of mine was out hunting deer, when a black footed ferret stood in the narrow trail, hissing and showing fangs. You are correct, some of the footage was of wild Weasels, though the same Genus as Ferrets, then domestic Ferrets footage vs wild Polecat and Weasel footage, misrepresenting Domesticated Ferrets playing and not hunting, this click-bait video is full of misinformation.
@Lance Cox, actually, the genus Mustela now comprises of only six extant species, the Least Weasel (Mustela nivalis), the Stoat (Mustela erminea), the Mediterranean Weasel (Mustela numidica), the Egyptian Weasel (Mustela subpalmata), the Morocco Weasel (Mustela moroccana), and the Algerian Weasel (Mustela algeriensis).
@Ciera Nel, 0:12, the animal's more correct name is shulang, since it is not a true ferret (aka polecat), it belongs to the family Ictonychidae, which more closely relates it to the zorillas, grisons, wolverine, tayra, and martens.

If ferrets were the size of lions they would be the top of the food chain amongst the land animal world. Their agility, bite, determination ,Their bite force and grip pound for pound is the most powerful in the animal world, and they also close their ears when in water like otters do. They're scary strong. My biggest can open the fridge by himself. I once watched in horror as Mac dragged a 4 pack of campbells soup off a shelf. I was sure he was about to get squished. Instead he whipped the entire pack over his head like it weighed nothing.
I have been around them as pets a long time ago and didn't realize what voracious predators they are in the wild. They are cute, cuddly, playful and adorable in captivity!
Yeah easily the most nuisance animal to farmers due to their small size, intelligence, and the fact that they will maul all the birds in a coup that they get access to. Fisher cats and ferrets were almost exterminated due to this conflict, I read that a weasel once killed 32 geese in a single night just to stash the bodies somewhere as they eat a lot with the slim bodies and fast metabolism. Wolves can be similar nuisance animals on a bigger scale to farmers, a pack can kill all the sheep or goats in a confined area that multiplies the damage quickly. I believe members of the weasel family are the primary reason why rodents and rabbits breed as quickly as they do.......if you were to compare them to raptors or cats that hunt a single animal at a time (although they are both master hunters and ambushers in their own right). These voracious predators hunt rapidly and quickly deplete the number of prey animals in the area, they would have had to co-evolve and breed like that just to survive in areas where they both existed, not to mention how many mustelids must have roamed the earth before mankind began spreading its footprint.
we don't have ferrets where I live, but we do have a lot of minks! Essentially the same, and perhaps a bit more aggressive...also a whole lot prettier in my opinion. My neighbour has a poodle, it was attacked by a mink one day and we were kind of shocked! my other neighbours cat attacked the mink, it was lights out for that critter, the cat just shredded it. It was over in literally about 60 seconds, I had no idea housecats could be that savage, it was just brutal to see. Cat crushed it's throat and partially disembowled it in those 60 seconds.
You can’t even recognize prairie dogs and gopher. Ferrets are known to inhabit in prairie dogs town as snakes and some other creatures do, sometimes they even got chased to a dead burrow and buried alive. Prairie dogs are also one of most intelligent animals on the Earth who build their own “language”, and even dialect in different communities. This one possibly fought with one before and knows how to deal with it.
The wild counterparts of the Domestic Ferret (Mustela furo) are Polecats. The Eurasian Polecat (Mustela putorius), the primary ancestor of the Domestic Ferret (Mustela furo), and the Steppe Polecat (Mustela eversmanii), these two wild counterparts are not known as Ferrets. Me personally, call the (Black-Footed Ferret) as American Polecat (Mustela nigripes) as they are also known.
Lol the animal chasing the ferret is a ground squirrel not a gopher they are two different families like a fox and coyote, that is a black tailed prairie dog (I own one) they are notorious for being viciously territorial and little geniuses, they will absolutely square up against an animal bigger than them they are solid muscle and have a nasty bite for all the fuzzy cuteness they present, they will massacre just about anything they don't like wether it's other squirrels, snakes, etc.
Good video but the "gopher" wasn't ...it was a "prairie dog" a type of ground squirrel found in the great plains of the USA. Gophers actually have sma ll eyes w/poor eyesight, great hearing, bigger heads and incisors.
A neighbor told me his ferret could take on my outdoor cat. I called bs and I said go get the ferret and he did. Within less than 5 seconds of putting it on the ground we had to break it up. Guess who won?
THE rain forest animal are so Cute some are just as azure have seen at the zoo they have a shoebill bird that have many color on it like rain blow in African they have lost of animal even Snake that climes tree that are bigger than you are so cute to see that the zoo keeper have a good job what the animal that the lion king was my favorite movie made me cry laugh enjoy the animal the land before time was the best movie and was cute like tome and Jerry my favorite cartoon show
the video shows a Black Footed Ferret in the beginning, killing a rabbit. They're an endangered species, I'm amazed he's allowed to have one in captivity.
Except for feral cats, ferrets can make a nice meal. I've seen video, ferret attacked a feral cat, try to mount on its neck, but the cat slapped it around so fast, something cats do to snake's head, ferret just stumbled around like a drunk after. Maybe the poor ferret mistaken the cat for rabbit? 🤕🤧😭
There is a little confusion in this video - as some people have pointed out. There are ferrets that are domesticated European polecats. These animals have been domesticated for over a thousand years. This video also shows black-footed ferrets, an endangered species found in the USA. While they are both mustelids (mustelidae family), they are not the same and are a different species. He also shows another species of mustelid at 0:09 that is neither, but I do not know the species. For more information, Google it. Type in "mustelidae", hit images and you can see dozens of species, but not the cool videos this UA-cam video shows.
Childish narration. 'One and a half times smaller' is clumsy. You means two thirds as big. The scent glands are not weapons...they are used for marking territory. 2.23 looks more like a mink. Then you show a ferret running away from a gopher followed by the comment that ferrets are very brave and are never afraid of even larger enemies. The mouse-ferret interaction is obviously a set-up. Well-done explaining that the American ferret lives in North America! Watched the rest on mute.
Their scent glands can indeed be used as weapons. All members of the mustelid family have anal glands that they use for self defense. The skunk is a very good example.
The ONLY wild ferrets in America is the black foot ferret and they are protected by federal laws just as Eagles are. And domestic or European ferrets can not survive in the wild. And you can trained ferrets not to bite. Our cats , ferrets and German shepherds loved to play together.
decent video but you should know what type of animals you're talking about, Stepped ferret is a Black footed ferret, ground squirrel was a prairie dog.

Love how the narrator calls a gopher a yellow ground squirrel like wtf is a ground squirrel lol?
Lol the animal chasing the ferret is a ground squirrel not a gopher they are two different families like a fox and coyote, that is a black tailed prairie dog (I own one) they are notorious for being viciously territorial and little geniuses, they will absolutely square up against an animal bigger than them they are solid muscle and have a nasty bite for all the fuzzy cuteness they present, they will massacre just about anything they don't like wether it's other squirrels, snakes, etc.
The whole weasel family are beast. I'm glad they don't weight 50 pounds.
the ground squirrel knows MMA
Good video but the "gopher" wasn't ...it was a "prairie dog" a type of ground squirrel found in the great plains of the USA. Gophers actually have sma ll eyes w/poor eyesight, great hearing, bigger heads and incisors.
ahahaha this is adorable!!!
this is a good one kristi
The “gophers” in this video were prairie dogs, not gophers. And that was a black footed ferret giving chase to them.
How can something be “one and a half times smaller” than something else?
It's a dumb comment. He should have said '..two thirds the size..'.
This videos script was auto-generated by a bad A.I.
So cutte❤
A neighbor told me his ferret could take on my outdoor cat. I called bs and I said go get the ferret and he did. Within less than 5 seconds of putting it on the ground we had to break it up. Guess who won?
@Uncle Hoax do you have any coyote friends that you could ask?
Who won?
@@donfredbeauvoir7976 the cat won quite handily.
Well I'm glad the cat won..
WHAT A DEUSCH!! SAVE THAT SQUIRREL SMH
THE rain forest animal are so Cute some are just as azure have seen at the zoo they have a shoebill bird that have many color on it like rain blow in African they have lost of animal even Snake that climes tree that are bigger than you are so cute to see that the zoo keeper have a good job what the animal that the lion king was my favorite movie made me cry laugh enjoy the animal the land before time was the best movie and was cute like tome and Jerry my favorite cartoon show
The guy pulling the squirrel out, pisses me off… let the ferret eat his very well deserved kill in peace!!
You’d have to be fast to prey on a rabbit.
the video shows a Black Footed Ferret in the beginning, killing a rabbit. They're an endangered species, I'm amazed he's allowed to have one in captivity.
A good weasel is a _____ weasel. Fill in the blank.
What is the difference between weasles, ferret, mink, stoat?
Mostly size.. incidentaly the weasel smallest of the four has the stongest bite pr bodyweight of any mammal.
That's like asking the difference between a house cat, Lynx, Cougar, Lion and a Tiger.
🤕🤧😭
They make great Rat Killers when trained.
The one @0:09 is a marbled polecat from Europe and China 👍
Bruh that poor squirrel 😂😂😂😂😂😂
my grandma always used to tell me apple and orange are two different fruits.
Ini saya like
I'm glad they are not bigger...guess you need something crazier than a ferret to protect the hen house..like a Jack Russell lol
well done!
"We pay tribute to the Ferret for his courage."
Watched the rest on mute.
this whole video pissed me off. When he said ferrets use their scent gland as a weapon i was like "what.....the....fuck?"
Good for kids
Are you going to make more videos?
decent video but you should know what type of animals you're talking about, Stepped ferret is a Black footed ferret, ground squirrel was a prairie dog.
Gofer knew bjj lol used the full guard
For starters this video is about “mustilids” not ferrets
Ferret like cats face
Ferrets.. they are delicious
They can hunt animals twice their size...believe it or not, they are related to otters...
Stoats up to 10 times their size...
who knew my babies could kill me.. *gets nightmares* OH GOD PLEASE NO COCOA-
2:43 😮😟 that squirrel is alive…
My neighbour's so called domesticated ferrets escaped and killed 4 of my chickens.
2 days later they were all dead, poisoned.
هيوني 😍🥰❤️❤️😁✨
would you make a video about the greater grison a.k.a brasilian ferret?
Well thats 14 mins of my life ill never get back watching utter tripe
0:16 & 5:02, notice how perfectly round the hole in the tree is, with the snake in it. Man made hole.
Mine is sleeping in the left leg of my pants.
Ferret and wild polecat = different animals
Ferret mink weasel all the same to me…..😁
