Kato, ive been following you since Skitzo and just wanted to let you know how much im loving these story videos and the conversation with Jarren! As heartbreaking as some of the story is, i really appreciate you giving us insight on industry politics and how everything works. Wishing you nothing but success, and i hope im able to get my name up enough to lock in with you one day!!
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”
How ironic, that was her biggest song on Spotify. After that she fell off. She definitely should have done more songs with you instead of going the major label route.
I can appreciate you sharing and talking about having a brilliant idea, executing it and not getting the recognition you deserve. Keep being the excellent artist that you are and stay true to your own vision. Gave the video a like and look forward to more! 👊🧡👍
ty for sharing this Kato. so relatable... but inspiring as well. ✨your positivity and outlook can make all the difference. educate yourself and learn from your experiences but know no one did everything right the first time. so much of this industry is navigating through different situations and figuring out when to bend and when to walk away. always appreciate your insight and sharing your journey, ty!
Kato....If it's been 15 years since you made your first beat. I'm 30 now. And had to have heard you for the first time nearly 15 years ago. Those last 3 things you just said....were the 3 things I needed to hear and to stick with me. And because I clicked and watched this and heard you say it. They are now embedded in my sub-conscious. Big blessings bro. Big blessings. 😇
Hey your super knowledgeable man, any tips on how to get rid of beat block? Keep having these amazing ideas and the beat start out fucking incredible but I can't finish anything idk what's wrong with me

50% publishing is standard if u made the beat or wrote a portion of the song. I feel like I deserved a lot more than that but I’m grateful for the blessing either way.
just created the new Mantra for the rest of 2024 and beyond.. im calling it "The 3 F's".. 1. be Fearless , 2. Fall Forward, 3. have Faith in the process. you said Trust but im using Faith to complete the 3 F's. It was great meeting you in Denver! i hope to link up again someday!
I’m not signing anything unless it’s for millions of dollars with a guarantee in my favor . That’s why I stayed independent and signed distributions deals instead. I wanted to keep my masters. I recently signed the deals so I’ll see what they do for me. It’s better to do it that way . When the majors gave me the contract I looked at the percentages and they were extremely predatory. When I read the contracts in depth I knew they wanted to screw me bad . It just wasn’t beneficial to me in the long run
Thanks for the video. You kind of made it sound like you were powerless to stop the label signing the record. But naturally, you were the rights-holder of the sound recording (since you paid to have it created) so I would assume that you had the option to reject the offer and not allow the label to sign the track. Is that right? Also, how was the $25,000 an advance? Usually an advance is a payment towards the artist's budget for the writing, producing, recording etc of the record. But it sounds like in your case, the record was already made before the label got involved and offered you any money.
When she signed to Republic, the label became the new owners of So Pretty, minus my beat. I could’ve held out but then we miss the momentum from TikTok. So I sold the beat to them under those terms so we could release the full song under republic.
Am I understanding correctly that these zoom meetings you took with the labels, they turned around and stole your idea and socialized it on their end, somehow that information got to Tyga, and he ended up doing it? I find it hard to believe that it’s a coincidence that he did what you were planning to do after you had made your plans clear to the labels.
This was a good story and motivation to keep grindin ya own way. The music business is definitely shark infested waters.

50% publishing is a lot. For a song with 100 million streams, that's actually amazing. You definitely deserved more points on the master.

Yes. I’ll make another video breaking down the full agreement in the next video. There were a lot of factors to consider
@@KatoHipHop Thanks. Looking forward to hearing more.
Snakes, bro, nothing but snakes...
If its your property, why did you only receive 3 points? What were they leveraging to keep 97 points on your property? Ty for sharing
