Don't let the pain control you for what your trying to complete and that's making it to Katahadin. Just take it One Day at a Time. That's all you have to do. And if that means going slow then do that. And you will make friends as nice as you are, it just takes time. Keep looking forward to the finish line 👍👍👍🙂🙂
I do not want you to have to quit. But you have to take care of yourself. That's part of the reality of doing a thru hike, don't feel bad if you have too. Stay safe!!
I saw 5 timber rattlers in the Shenandoah last year. They are all black. I encountered some much awesome trail magic in the park! There are lots of day hikers and 'delis' to get food at. It's going to get better soon. You are stronger than you know!!! There is some much awesome sites and experiences the farther north you go. Please don't let the VA blues stop you from completing your thruhike! You got this!!! ❤
Gabby do not feel pressure, we are here to support you no matter what you choose. A trail family would give you something else to focus on. Maybe skip up to your friend and continue hiking with her. 🌻👣
Hey Gabby, I have been following you for a long time and I can tell from your voice that things changed after you lost your tramily. Before you think about leaving the trail please co sider jumping ahead to rejoin Furlo!! You will be happier and you really should enjoy your trail experience. After doing 600 miles of the AT my first time, I became a section hiker. However, I felt the same way for a long time about letting people down. Follow your heart ❤️ and whatever feels right to you. You can even go heal for another week and then jump ahead. You should climb Katahdin with your friends! And you are such a strong hiker, you have plenty of time this year to close the gap. By the way, I did finish the AT as a section hiker and am proud of it!!!! I'm with you!!😊
You're having a rough time, but you do seem very rational Gabby. When I subscribed it was unconditional; nothing was 'expected.' You can do what your body allows. You're a good vlogger and a kind soul, that's why I subscribed. Like many here, I'm proud of you no matter the outcome and will continue your vlogs. Remember what you have achieved. 😊 Be easy on yourself ✌️
5 of us ran/jog/walk 5 mile intervals through Shanendoah Natl Park around 2003. It took about 20 hours, 4 toenails, 1 cut, and it is an excellent memory.
Trust your gut (and your body). You have accomplished a lot of miles and that makes you successful no matter how this goes. Section hiking may be a better fit. Or maybe move to where your trail family is, go from there and flip back finish this section later. Cheering you on no matter what!
I learned long that hiking is 98% mental - that level of concentration can’t be available to keep you moving when you have other issues - like hiking alone. Not for me either! I think jumping ahead to catch up with your friends is a great idea. I’d stretch, stretch, stretch - when and as much as you need to keep the hip pain under control. But most all - this is your hike - not anybody else’s! The Trail will be there whenever you need it. Btw - there is no way I could ever hike over 10 miles a day tops back in the day. You’ve been doing great! Smile n give yourself a big pat on the back! 😻
Exactly pace yourself stay s hydrated rested ups !! Plus do alittles yoga release the neg. Brings ons pos. Unwind!! You're awesome smarts delightful amazing 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 ❤️❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜
Sorry to hear about the hip acting up, deal with that everyday myself so you have my sympathies. Hope the rest helps. You know we're all pulling for you but do what's best for your body.
"You are not alone"...remember we are with you (in spirit), every step of the way !!! What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger...hang in there girl !
Gabby, the mental on trail is everything. Focusing on things bothering you makes it harder. The spirit is capable of overlooking the negative. Being around people would help if you can find the patience until it happens. The trail is long and you will end up with regular people before its over i believe. Its just if you can tollerate the pain to get to the rewards. I think you are badass and you can do this. Never quit when you are down. Thinking about you girl.
I hope your hip feels better. Try resting for a few days to a week to heal. Stretching and rest might help. If that doesn't work try asking for a doctors opinion. Then go from there if it gets really bad. I want you to succeed and do well. Your videos are awesome!!!
Gabby, the pain is surely fueling your mental attitude. And please don't worry about us folk out here in UA-cam land being disappointed in you. True supporters of your channel will support you no matter what you decide to do. Whatever you decide please do so for your own personal health reasons, not that you will disappoint us, you won't. That's not to say we don't love seeing your videos and following your journey. We do! You will be back. Good luck and please take care of yourself!

Don't be hard on yourself, Gabby. You've got nothing to prove to anybody, not even yourself. Your health -mental and physical- should be your only consideration, not what other people want of you. Still rooting for you.
I would do an entire day with my hip pain and just kept taking Ibuprofen, not alot but a couple times a day. It seemed like after a day or so it would get better. My expierence hiking is if you can endure the pain for a bit it will eventually go away quickly. You are going to have these weird pains along the trail. Just walk it off. That's my personal experience
Even when you work you have weekends off and take vacations to get out of a routine. Take some time off every once in a while and do something fun and different (not just a working zero day).
I’m sorry you’re having a rough time. Don’t feel pressured to finish if you are injured. You can come back when you feel better. Maybe after stretching and cutting your miles down for a while will help.❤
It is 101 miles. Thanks for the interesting commentary on the Shenandoah National Park. I empathize with your pain. Wishing you feel better. Bravo to your achievement! I applaud your determined spirit👏Cheers to better days ahead! Happy Trails!
Gabby, I'm a runner and am constantly fighting injuries. My body and my race schedule are always at odds. Also I'm 69yo and fighting that "age" thing. Continue to do what you have been doing--adjust and improvise your plans. Lower miles for now, more hotels, new friends. As far as letting your followers down--I followed you last year and now this year. You are doing something that is very hard. Something like 80-90% quit. Keep the perspective. You are not letting me down and I'm sure the same can be said for your followers. Lastly a hikers mantra for you "may your load be light, your feet steady, and your heart true".
The stretching the hips ,hamstrings, quads, and calves is very good to release the tension from using them all day long. Also soak in a hot water bathtub,if your motel has one, moist heat does wonders.Alternate ice and moist heat see which one helps more.
Maybe a crazy thought, take a month off and come back with new energy! No need to make big, final decisions in a hurry or to keep on hiking through pain. What you say about your gait sounds relatable, it will solve itself once your foot feels better. And your mind will follow your body, all those pessimist thoughts and feelings that you're experiencing are closely connected to physical pain. This also works the other way around.
Please don't feel like you're staying on trail so you don't disappoint anyone. You are the most important person you need to worry about. You don't want to exasperate a current injury into something bigger. Whatever you decide, the only opinion is yours. You're doing amazing and getting miles done. Appreciate your videos. 😊
I feel your hip pain! Mine hurts often but mine is due to old age. I am very envious of your journey. Being an introvert, it would be fine with me if I hiked 2200 miles and saw no one. That's not totally true, but all of my hikes and camping trips are by myself. But this season I am living vicariously through your hike! My prayers are with you, and since I am a pastor, I MEAN it. 😂
😢Dont feel pressured because of youtube! I know I get it whatever you decide. Just remember what others have said dont quit on a bad day! Also go slow you were off trail and have lost momentum you'll get it back in no time!❤❤❤
If you don’t feel like finishing the trail, don’t finish! Next year-start off where you leave the trail. That said, your best hiking is in front of you. Once you get out of Virginia, you will start clicking all states at a much quicker pace. Also, the hike in New England is absolutely spectacular! So, make your own choice and don’t worry about what your viewers think.!
Please be careful. You love the hiking, and I'd hate to see you cause a permanent or lasting injury that prevents you from being able to hike other trails or even the AT again. The mental challenge sure is part of it, and I think making friends is the right call, but you're not wrong either. If you're unhappy and not enjoying it that will shed the entire experience in a negative light.
What is wrong with being a section hiker? A perfectly noble way to hike. Do another block of the AT in 2024. Do what feels good. Hiking is for enjoyment. There is no hard and fast rule about how one must hike.
Sorry you had a disappointing day. I'd love to see you complete the AT this time but it sounds as though you're not enjoying it at the moment. Would you enjoy it if you skipped forward and rejoined your tramily, and came back to do this bit at a later point? It's such a tough undertaking it really needs you to enjoy big chunks of it, and you're just not at the moment, for reasons that are entirely understandable. You aren't letting anyone down whatever decision you make, for whatever reason.
Great video! Keep your head up!
Hey! Don’t worry about letting anyone down! You have done great things already!
Thank you so much. You can do it.
Nice video 😅, with some good views, so let's keep on hiking 😊
