What a colourful character this conductor is, and what splendid music he produces. He is my Englishman’s idea of what a cultured Russian gentleman was/is. It is clear, from the smiles on the faces of the audience, that he gives them much pleasure - and me too.
It is so good to know that something of the definite charm of old Russia has been so carefully restored.

Lvov’s glorious tune is a gem of Russian musical culture, and you all did it to perfection (including dress, which of course adds to the sense of occasion). You should feel so proud of yourselves. I certainly feel proud of YOU!
Modern life is often so grey. Captain Karabanov is the sort of person, more often than not, who is conspicuous by their absence in today’s dull world. He has added much colour, enjoyment and excitement to my day. Многая лета!

Был такой случай на рубеже 20х-30х - в Москве показывали "Дни Трубиных", там в одном из эпизодов на сцене поют "Боже Царя храни". Так вот, зал при исполнении встал и люди гимн пели, хотя в те годы за исполнение подобной "песни" могли и к стенке поставить. Такие вот дела...

This was a performance I never expected to see in my lifetime. It was quite stirring, too. Russians have every reason to take immense pride in their imperial history, and it was moving to see the audience show its respect for the former imperial anthem, even today. I do not know if any deeper significance was intended by the performers or by the audience, but if so the questions raised would clearly be up to the Russian people to decide.

Its not respect for the oppressive family, its respect for Russian history. To me all the anthems are mine. In the West theres a tendency to distance from the past instead of embracing it, and thats not healthy. Leave the monuments as a lesson.

My mother was taught this at school in Bradford West Yorkshire as a school girl sung in English the headmistress at the school refused to teach the schoolgirls the Soviet national anthem and told the girls that one day in the future the anthem would be restored my mother passed away at the age of 88 in 2014 and I remember mum singing this to me GOD BLESS HER

Today is July 17th, 2023. 105 years after the passing of the Romanovs.
It is 11:44 PM as I finish writing this.
I have spent the day mourning and honoring the family, and listening to this wonderful masterpiece, last year I did the same. This performance was perfect for this day.
Alexey Karabanov, thank you for this marvelous performance, it is as angels from above are singing to the earth, guided by another angel, with instruments played from the hands of more.
The best version of God save the Tsar I have ever heard is this one.
If the Romanovs were to ever hear this, I believe this would be the greatest rendition of God save the Tsar they would have ever heard.
