Bro that was 14 pumps 😂 great vid though
You weren't supposed to count! Lol, some of the pumps didn't feel like they were pumping.
Was going to say thats 14😂
Push in the rod on the end of the grease gun. It is not suppose to be out. Usually gives a feeling of no grease going in.
I know I counted more than 10 but then I questioned my intelligence. Lol.
I believe that's known as a bakers 10.
Thanks, I suck mechanically, so these step by step videos for easy stuff are very helpful.
Thanks for watching Johnny!
Just a FYI, the grease gun you are using has an adjustable zerk tip, you unscrew it, put it on zerk then tighten it down and it locks it into place, then when you are done, you unscrew it as that loosens it from the zerl and it comes right off, this was painful to watch you tear it off the zerk :)
14 = 10. Just be careful to not over lube, the boot can pop or tear open if overly full when going over first bump. Great control arms SPC
Tacomaholic, Have you thought about a video showing what you wish you had done, wish you hadn't done and a review of products that you've had installed for a while? i.e. I've had these "shocks" installed for six months and here's what I think now..... Sort of a the good, the bad and the ugly theme, Love the vids man, very helpful and informative. Thanks!
Absolutely Dave. I've got a few ideas like that for stuff I've had on the truck awhile now. Thanks for watching!
Lookin good, bro! 👍
Thanks buddy! UCAs feel nice and greasy. :)
Man I was wondering what tool that was! Thanks buddy I better check that out!:D
The grease gun?
I did the same thing when installing. They don't come greased FYI! I ended up greasing them for maintenance early on, but caused premature wear and wouldn't pass inspection, so lucky me, had to buy a new set :/
4:40 🤣🤣🤣
After the 14th pump...
Ok....thats 10 pumps lollol I love this guy 🤣🤣😆
2 things. The rod coming out the bottom of your grease gun should typically be pushed in. Adds pressure to the grease. 2nd, the tip of the grease gun can unscrew a bit which makes it easier to attach and detach the gun to the zerk. Once it’s on the fitting, you can screw it down a bit to help it work better.
Hey buddy. That rod kept getting stuck for some reason. Any idea why? That was actually the first time I'd used that grease gun. I know the hose and tip unscrew but I didn't want to risk getting grease on anything elase.
Tacomaholic often the rod has notches in it. The notch catches in the keyhole shaped hole in the base. Usually takes a bit of fenagling. Depending on the fitting on the gun the very end of the fitting that goes on the jerk is often a 2 piece number that can be tightened/loosened on the zerk. This might help better explain that. www.suspension.com/blog/how-to-grease-ball-joints/
Tacomaholic BTW been enjoying the vids. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Gifford! I "fixed" my grease gun and did notice a huge difference in the amount of grease that came out. 👍
Do you have any symptoms with you’re Spc having a knocking noise when you’re hitting small bumps?
I've since upgraded to different UCAs but that kind of noise might mean the joint is going bad.
Great Video
Thanks buddy!
so i'm new to all this greasing the joints, but what happens to the old grease? does it just get pushed out?
Yep it just gets pushed out of the bottom.
These are tempting but I think I’m going to buy some total chaos UCA for my ‘08 tacoma TRD OR
I've heard that the Total Chaos UCAs are amazing. Few more zerk fittings to grease though.
How are those UCAs do you like them and do they keep the lineament and how do your tires wear and ride I like those
UCAs have been great so far. No issues with the alignment ... just make sure you get it aligned by a technician who is familiar with aftermarket UCAs. No issues with weird tire wear either.
Nice. I'm running the older style SPCs with the non-greasable fitting. Might pick up the new fittings at some point.
It's nice that SPC added that in. Should greatly increase the longevity of the UCAs.
Is it at all possible to grease the older ones? I’ve got 20K on mine and no new grease added. Now I feel like IIIIII have sinned!!!
Why would you want to grease rubber bushings
I just put JBA's on my 17OR and I put 11 pumps and it only calls for 5. I couldn't tell if the damn thing was filling up or not? I figured some grease would purge from the bottom of the boot but I did not see anything.
That's 1 thing I love about my new Icon billet UCAs with the delta joint: the grease will always push through the bottom when you pump new grease in ... so easy to tell when you've gotten all the old grease out.
Truck is awesome! How are you liking the SPC UCAs? Any issues thus far?
Thanks buddy! SPC UCAs have been great so far.
Thanks for the info!
Sure thing buddy!
Tacomaholic I'm thinking of getting icon stage 1 or 2 ( 3-inch lift) but, my truck is still under warranty. Since you've installed yours have you had any major issues with it? How's the maintenance? Thanks for your help.
Hey buddy! Zero issues with mine after almost a year. Rides great and the only maintenance I've done is periodically torque the bolts and hit everything with some Fluid Film.
Thank you for the advice!!! Good to hear and nice rig! I think it's time to start my build.
Thanks man, good luck with the build.
Good to know. Just picked up SPC’s with my OME lift.
Very nice Cory! Got everything installed yet?
Tacomaholic
Yup, installed last week and took her off-roading over the weekend. I posted some pictures in the “What have you done to your 2nd gen Tacoma today” thread. I’m musubi3.
Keep the vids coming!👍🏽
Thanks for watching! I'm going wheeling on the 24th. Can't wait.
Tacomaholic did you have any weird noises coming from the uca before adding the greese? I have those with the ome lift and can't figure out where the noise is coming from.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I just installed these UCA's and got a weird noise coming from them, too. Is it due to not enough grease? Maybe bushings?
What type of extended travel suspension are you running underneath there?
Hey Izzy thanks for watching! For now I just have the Bilstein 5100s with Old Man Emu 887 springs and SPC Light Racing UCAs for the front. The rear has extended travel Bilstein 5100s with a dakar leaf pack.
Tacomaholic I just purchased my spc’s going to be running the same setup on my FJ. Is the SPC uca really necessary or should I have just
saved me a few hundred dollars
For maintenance, do you have to jack the front up or can you grease this on the ground?
The install/spec sheet from SPC doesn't say so I would assume on the ground is fine. That's what I always did and never had an issue.
@@Tacomaholic Thanks for the reply. I tried it on the ground. It's been 10k since I serviced it, but after 1-2 pumps, grease was coming out of the connection so I thought I did something wrong (the attachment clicked to the nipple so it was on there).
How do you like the SPC UCA’s, no squeaking ? Or any other issues how do they handle , I install total chaos on my Tacoma I hate them their horrible , I’m thinking about switching to SPC UCA’s, What’s ur opinion & review on SPC
Mine have been great. Zero squeaking but I do spray them a few times a year with fluid film. What don't you like about Total Chaos?
@@Tacomaholic what does the fluid film offer you there?I considered using it on my suspension myself but it leaves a pretty greasy look/residue...
Yeah it goes on thick/greasy but you can also just spray it on a paper towel and wipe a thinner layer on stuff like that. The fluid film will protect whatever is underneath from rust/corrosion.
I am going to switching out mine too. Need a sealed unit on the coast, was thinking of SPCs or JBAs. Not a fan of the Total Choas it's only been a year and a half, they be over priced poop.
Are you running TC right now Trevor?
Looks like you posted the same link for the grease under the “grease gun”.
Oops, thanks for catching that Alan. Fixed. 👍
Hello I just installed my SPC in my 2018 Tacoma first thanks for the video second can u tell me the name
Of that pump so I can do my self? I’m new with this my first time buying upper control arms thanks
Hey buddy! Are you asking about the grease gun like this: amzn.to/2YzTWmg If so here's the grease I use too: amzn.to/37q81GW
Yes,thank u so much !!!! Great!
@@danielzooby7226 Any time.
I did mine with an electric grease gun and held for about 5-10 seconds. Do you know if the boot is supposed to become firmer?
If the boot was low on grease to begin with then it will get firmer with new grease added.
@@Tacomaholic were you also able to post links with acceptable grease? Would you also know if there is a grease that is compatible with both the spc uppers as well as the drive shaft?
@@joeyfedel8113 I'm not sure if there is a grease that could be used for both.
@tacomaholic in the beginning of the video mentions splash guards. Can you send me a link or info where you got those? Just got my spc upper control arms and icon coilovers so watching your vids comes in handy. Awesome rig
Thanks for watching man! Here's a link to the splash guard vid and there are links in that video's description box: ua-cam.com/video/Chkrb_G9T4k/v-deo.html
Tacomaholic your welcome! I’m in Arlington and it’s good to see other northern va Toyota off road rigs on UA-cam!
Awesome buddy! Are you on Tacomaworld?
Tacomaholic I’m not but just took a glance at Tacomaworld. Pretty awesome truck setup I’ve seen so far. I’m still going through your vids on UA-cam’s and picking some tips on off-roading and locations to go to. I actually don’t have a Tacoma but drive a 04 double cab tundra. It’s hard to find off-roading parts for my model being that Toyota only made my model for a couple of years before the second generation came out. I like checking newer tacos cause they are most like the size of my truck. So far I got 1.25” spacer, Airaid filter, 32” Goodyear ultraterrians, 700 lbs icon 2.5”, spc upper control arms, add a leaf on the rear with 5100 bilstein shocks. I’m looking into upgrading the leaf packs. Chopping the body mounts in the front for bigger tires next. I also finally found a fab shop out on the west coast that will make rocksliders for my model specifically. Hopefully I’ll be out the trails soon.
Tundras are always welcome over on TW! You should checkout the NOVA thread here: www.tacomaworld.com/threads/northern-virginia-roll-call.188512/ as that's where we setup all of our meets for beers or wheeling. We are actually meeting at Solace Brewery next Thurs if you want to come out.
I just installed the SPC upper control arms. I was looking closely tonight and noticed a very small dab of grease at the very bottom of the boot. Is that normal? I only put 10 pumps in. Thanks
Did the boots have that grease when you installed or was that grease forced out when you pumped in new grease?
@@Tacomaholic there was no grease when I installed it. Just after pumping grease. It is very small I would say about the size of a BB
@@lonesomecricket7721 I wouldn't worry about that as long as you don't see any tears in the boot.
@@Tacomaholic awesome. Thanks for taking the time to respond. 👍🏻
@@lonesomecricket7721 Any time
If a lot of grease is coming out from the top, is that a sure sign that I should replace the boot?
Grease is coming out of the top of the boot when pumping the new grease in?
@@Tacomaholic not when pumping, but after driving. It’s also been hot over here lately, 90° plus for the past week or so, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I wiped off the grease and pumped more and then the next day or two I checked and noticed grease is showing again.
@@saychao22 Yeah the grease shouldn't be leaking out just from driving.
How are they holding up?
I had them on the truck for a few years and they were great. I've since upgraded to billet Icon UCAs with a delta joint though.
I wish I had I had UCAs that needed greasing. Still running stock sadly
Which UCAs are you planning on getting?
Tacomaholic JBAs once I have enough saved up. Cheaper then SPCs and they come in red
Nice, yeah I wish the SPCs came in different colors.
FYI bro, you can unscrew the tip to get it off easily or tighten it down if it is loose and grease leaks out.
I've learned that since doing this vid. I still use the LockNLube coupler ( amzn.to/3AhO42S ) though since it's easier (and cleaner) to do when trying to film stuff.
So,any reason or need behind removing tension/ lifting off the ground when greasing?I had mine installed yesterday and need to grease my fittings tomorrow. Plan to just do it after I get to work while in the parking lot.
No you don't need to lift off the ground, but it might give you more room to maneuver grease gun by having a larger fender gap. Removing the tire would make it easier too.
so no red n tacky then ?
Well the install sheet I linked to says NLGI#2 LB is good (which is what the Red N Tacky is) but moly grease is supposed to be the best for UCAs.
Have you heard of Blackstone Oil Analysis? If not, you order a sample kit for free, and you pay when you send it off. They test the oil and send you results back that explain your engine health, developing problems and such. I ordered a kit but haven't sent it off yet. I think going over the results would be a cool idea for a video. This sounds like spam but isn't haha.
Hey buddy! I've heard of that but didn't know the name of the company. Thanks for sharing ... might have to check that out.
... and boom! Just requested my kit. :)
Got my kit in today. I'll do a video about this (with results) with my next oil change. Thanks for sharing! 👍
I don't have aftermarket UCA's, but this does remind me that I need to grease my drive shaft!
I'm doing that soon too! 😀
Are you still running 5100s and Dakars?
Yep. 5100s on zero setting with 887 springs, dakars with extended travel 5100s in back.
That was like 14 pumps lol what do you mean that was 10
First few weren't moving the grease because I didn't have the gun setup correctly. 😀
FIRST! .............?Now what? good thing you found the fitting, your storage compartment might have come loose....or ?
Just one of those things that I let slip.
That truck is Tennessee orange my friend.
Only on camera. Deeper in person. 🤘
Lol dude needs to learn how to count
