This fly hit the scene around 11-15 years ago I remember it was all the rage. Allegedly it was banned from many fisheries because it was so effective! I recall trying it many years ago but had very little success on the pattern.
Many thought it was an imitation of a maggot which did not go down well with the more discerning angler. Coupled with the fact that many fished it under a bung/indicator triggered many a purist. They would turn up with their pitchforks, burning torches and a good length of rope! No, only kidding.....lol.
I like to believe that it was primarily tied to represent a Docken Grub. Anyway as with most things in fly fishing once the outrage had passed it just became another fly pattern. You can tie it with various coloured heads popular is green and black but I do like the look of the hot orange.
