- Hurricane-strength Fiona is ripping through Canada’s eastern seaboard after making landfall in Nova Scotia early Saturday, slamming the area with fierce rain and damaging winds and knocking out power for hundreds of thousands in what could be a “landmark” weather event for the country.

931.6 millibar pressure. Fiona’s extra tropical transition reminds me a lot of what Sandy did in New Jersey nearly ten years ago. Sandy had a pressure of 940 millibars when it hit NJ.

Yes. Unfortunately and unforgivably Sandy was man made. Staten Island buffered where I live in NJ - one can swim the channel, The Kill Van Kull. We would have been annihilated if not for Staten Island. No storm in history ever made a direct PERFECT left angle in its' course (or right), which is what Sandy did. Sandy did a lot of damage. We were without power for almost two weeks, she wiped out all the grids.
CNN has a long history of spreading lies and half-truths.
This isn't surprising, as they are owned by the Clinton
Foundation. It seems their reign of misinformation may be
starting to crumble, as today they are finally beginning to
pay the price for their dishonesty as state governments are
starting to take action.
Three states, all led by Republican governors, have decided
to pull the plug on CNN within their borders. These great
states are Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, the unholy
trinity of states that have the best quality of living and
education in the nation, so they know what they are doing

Obviously you misunderstood my meaning. I was referring to hurricanes that were still listed as being hurricanes, not Tropical Storms and that hit Canada directly from offshore not going up the coastline from the US. In this criteria there have only been a few since 1972, the year I was born.

@@sswulffable being "downgraded" to a tropical storm doesn't mean what you think it means. It means that the storm loses it's form as a hurricane, spinning around an eye, and breaks up, becoming wider. Sometimes that coincides with being weaker, but other times the winds stay at hurricane force, and this is one of those times. It hit as a category 2 and even stronger in some places.
Prince Edward Island here. Pretty rough night. So many trees down. Power and internet knocked out since Friday night. Alot of roads unpassable due to downed power lines and poles.

I'm in Nova Scotia. I'm doing okay. We got trashed. Cape Breton got it especially bad where my daughter lives. I had no contact with her for two days but heard from her today. She's doing good also. I am surprised we got any coverage. We get a bad hurricane every few years.

Fiona was roughly 10x the size of Juan, it destroyed Northern NS, CB, PEI and SW Newfoundland.
Despite it hitting less populated areas, the superior size and strength of Fiona should still lead to significantly higher damage totals compared to Juan, even though unfortunately the massive amounts of surge and wave damage is not covered and will not be tallied in the totals.

Just in case our US cousins don't know, the land area between the state of Maine and PEI and to the north of NS is a separate province of New Brunswick (not part of NS). It's also being hit.
I'm on the Fundy shore and you are not getting hit hard in NB. halifax and cape breton are though.

Have 😢 three trees on my house and shed. Will not get power restored for a while as it snapped all the lines to my house. That was the scariest night of my life. In Shediac nb. Spent the day at the point at community centre. Many there had major flooding and had to be rescued by the fire department. Community is strong.

The problem that Floridians have is home insurance. The market basically collapsed. Now there is a few insurance companies and the cost keep rising. This happened before any hurricane. Some had their policies either cancelled or downgraded. My neighbor's policy doubled in a year and she had to quickly shop for a new policy while a hurricane is on the way. Thanks LameSantis.

Have we crossed the point of no return in terms of damaging the planet? There is no such point. We need to trust that our thought, which is our greatest quality, can change nature. We only need to understand the direction to which we should aim our thoughts. What should we think about? What condition or state should we aspire to and ask for?
In order to save our planet, we should think about positive human connections. That is, how can we, in our connections, keep nature safe? How can we all together protect our world? If we truly wish to better our planet, then we should see people holding a concern for how to positively connect everywhere that we look.
It has nothing to do with recycling or other activities that we commonly associate with as being sustainable. If we come closer to and consider each other, that we will reach an entirely organic, perfectly connected and round state, then the negative forces will disappear from the world.
We need to understand that if we start thinking better about each other, then the planet will recover from all harm, because our thoughts are the strongest force in nature. Likewise, our negative thoughts about each other are entirely to blame for damaging the planet. That is why the more we recycle and invest in energies and activities that we commonly think of as being sustainable, the worse our planet becomes. Nothing will work to benefit us until we reach a state where our attitude changes toward each other for the better to protect and improve our planet.

Wouldn't it be better to hire someone for each state and when the federal government gives a state money, it goes to a federal government office in the state to disperse, so that the state doesn't just do what they want with the money. That is what happen to Jackson MS. Stop letting governor's who talk about the federal government like a dog. And they are the first one's with their hands out when a disaster happens. Hire tough people who only pay legitimate expenses and if they don't meet federal standards, the state has to pay. The governor of AL took money given during a pandemic and used it to build prisons. And I know that isn't what it was meant for. And she disrespected the president and supported a republican candidate who may have sexual abused a young girl. This has to stop. Governors shouldn't be able to take federal money and do whatever they want with it.

Does anyone know why? We have not used some type of big bomb, to blow these huricains up before the reach any land fall? I am sure that some kind of nucular device without uranium, without radiation, maybe some type of vaccum bomb? Would do the trick...or something in this general direction maybe less powerful, but still effctive enough to take the wind out of one side to disruped it.. Just a though! :)
