  • In this video I make a DIY cosplay Batman cowl based on the Trailer for The Batman movie coming out in 2022. Hopefully this how to video will help you with your DIY projects or inspire you to start one. There is a link to free patterns if you would like to build one of your own.
    materials: 5 mm EVA foam (for numbered patterns) 3 mm EVA foam for ear pattern, scrap leather, velcro.
    tools: scissors/xacto knife, heat gun, Dremel rotary tool.
    adhesives: contact cement
    sealer: Mod Podge
    seam filler: DAP Alex plus
    paints: Gloss Black spray paint, matte black Dupli-color vinyl dye

    This is so amazing!! I do have a suggestion to cut down the time on doig the stitch marks though, you can heat up the foam and while it's still hot you can use a tracing wheel used for sewing on the seams and it stays looking like it has stitches on it😁

    I just sprayed flex seal over it and then a matte coating and it turned out perfect.

    Amazing work, try experimenting with a black chip guard spray for the underneath of cars, I've had great success replicating leather with this paint, several coats sprayed at close range then polished literally with the oil from your hands for a burnished look (the paint can create miniature spots or pores) or layers sprayed from a distance so the paint almost dries before it hits the surface creating a flocked effect most of which will brush away giving a suede look, enjoy experimenting! 🤓

    Personally not a fan of the suit and cowl they gave Robert Pattinson, but I really like Robert Pattinson as an actor, so seeing videos like this gets me hyped, sadly we'll now have to wait til March 2022 until the films release

    Hey! Quick question... would their be any downside to using a thinner foam? The shape is great but I have a slim face so the 5mm looks a bit bulky.

      Just the long term durability, but that also depends on how well you handle and store it too. Use higher quality cosplay foam as opposed to lower density craft foam and that will help too.

      As someone who used to make cardboard helmets, if you used a 2 ply card board, a softer type, you could bend it bit by bit, and I think it would work. You might not get the eyebrow creases, though, unless you cut them on the creases and glues them at an angle. Cardboard is cheap, do why not give it a shot?
