I truly miss the opportunity to dialogue with fellow travelers and companions as in Dragon Age Origins. The fact that they have it in Baldurs Gate 3 will bring back fond memories.
The only problem with Larian is such that they actually listen to fans too much, like implementing the armor system in DOS2 to reduce DOS1 RNG status ailments people complained about, so I hope they'll focus more on consistent mechanics even if it makes some fans angry.
Super excited for this game and am happy Larian is the one doing it. Going to wait a bit before I bite. Full price for early access is kind of odd, so I'll probably just wait for the full release to pick it up. Nice to see how it is holding up so far.
Larian has always had terrible writing and characters, what are you on about? Their writers are nobodies they hired because they were cheap, not talented. They even brought on the writer behind the infamously terrible novelization of the Baldur's Gate games, which is a massive red flag.
@@suplextrain Eh? The writing for Divinity: Original Sin 2 is pretty solid. It certainly isn't worse than the Baldur's Gate series. Not sure what you're talking about. The first Original Sin was a lot weaker in terms of characters and story compared to the sequel. But the lore was excellent.
that's pretty much what the devs said: don't buy the early access unless you're fine with limited content and bugs, just get ver. 1.0 when it comes out. (not verbatim, but the just of it is the same)
Tortuosit of Tapiola Yeah divinity sin proves that ... oh wait no because the first act was only a beginning and the other act where even more better and yes at release it was hyped by the fans
The first time I ever heard of Larian was with Divinity: OS1. They gained a lot of traction wiht OS2 like CDPR did with Witcher 2. I feel like BG3 is gonna be their Witcher 3, something that could sky rocket their notoriety to everyone like CDPR did when W3 came out. Never played DND in my life, nor do I care for it now honestly. But when you put it in a videogame format like this, hell yeah I'm interested. Even if you're just an RPG fan, this is definitely something you should be keeping an eye on. For now, I don't want to ruin my experience, so I'm just gonna wait for the actual release whenever that happens. Hopefully at some point in 2021.
I agree that Larian is a good choice, I also enjoyed all of their games. Black Isle would be my other pick as the pillars of Eternity games gave me BG vibes. Even though I picked turned based instead of rtwp on Pillars 2. Whether this game turns out to be Original sin 3 or it catches the BG feeling I can't help but think it will be amazing.
obsidian/black isle tried to make bg3 twice but failed due to license issue. Beamdog with the original developer of baldurs gate also wanted to make the seqeul, but wotc never allowed it. To be fair, wotc did not even own the dnd license when bg1 was made, but they always ask too much money.
Thanks for the impressions Karak. As always very well put and thought out. Personally cant wait to play the game, and i gotta say man: for an early access (and sometimes even for a currently released title) this game looks fucking phenomenal. I can't seem to remember a fully fledged RPG that looks this fucking cool.
@@klarnorbert You don't understand, I say that as it is early access and not the finished game, I know they can improve... Really your fanboy attitude is ridiculous. I have played divinity 1 and 2 and backed the Kickstarter campaign of Larian studio while you were playing other games. I am in the train long before you so don't fanboy me.
I'm getting ready to play it tonight. Can't wait. BUT, it seems more like DOS 3 with the BG name on it. Don't get me wrong, I love both DOS games, but it doesn't look like it has the BG feel to it.
Stop complaining moron. They were never going to do what BG1&2 DID they are trying to do something NEW AND Innovative. It's still D&D which is all that matters
@@spiritualsoul2711 Shouldn't have named it Baldur's Gate 3 if they had no intention of designing a game that resembled the original two games. It's D&D Divinity, which is great. It is not a proper entry in the series however.
Its not. Outside of the engine, it being turned based, and emphasis on player creativity and role-playing, this game plays very differently from Divinity.
5:10 The percentage system you see is based on dice rolls since this is based on DND. Its taking into consideration the enemies AC against your rolls and telling you in a percentage what your odds are to hit that target. The alternate way to do it would be like in actual DND and every attack you would roll and check if its greater than the target's AC then it would it. Its basically doing that but all in one swift click.
This is my first turn based RPG and I'm loving it! I think if the game didn't have full voice acting and those semi cutscene/chat sequences I would've passed on it.
yeah I agree... I'm a little nervous the game will turn out to be a some what linear combat fest but I do think this is the game studio to have a shot at it. Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 (especially 1) wasn't really known for its story telling but the studio really did do a great job at innovating the CRPG.
k4yser technically it means Computer Role Playing Game because that was the term used in the 80s and 90s when it was coined but classic is a much more accurate description now a days. It was called a computer rpg back in the day because back then table top rpgs were more common
@@kole9158 Lol.... well thats no longer a easy one to answer... classically speaking it means Computer Role Playing Game but now a days it generally means Iso metric RPG with a top down camra.
Goddamn Karak! When you said few more videos are coming soon in your new Watch Dogs 3 Impressions I didn't expected it to be even this quick. 😅 Thanks! 👍
Liking what your showing and discussing. Larian Studios really is/was the perfect studio to take up part 3, from what I am seeing an hearing it really seems this has a chance to be a very well done special game fans of BG (most) can really sink their teeth into.
This make me want to play the first two Baldurs Gate titles again before I jump head first into the new one. Its been ages. They were pretty much the first serious games I played too back in the day. Then Planescape ect.
Holy cow those texture resolutions... I'm excited even though I'm not even remotely the target audience. Once mod support opens up, I'll be diving into this like a pig in slop
Thanks a bunch for the review man, you save me a headache. I dont mind short version missing character customs and such but I cannot deal with missing cutscenes, that's a no go in my book. I am super hyped for the game but I will wait at least until I know all cutscenes for in story given gameplay to us are in.
I'm afraid of this one. How do you top a plot where you were the offspring of a god and shook all the world? I'll definitely check this out since BG is the all time favourite god-tier game of my childhood but I don't dare to elevate my expectations to the skies.
Hopefully the UI looks and feels less like DOS2's by release, I know a lot of it is temp assets right now but it's so close that you can barely even call it a reskin. Given how much better the actual characters and environments look, I do think they can handle it. Same thing goes for a lot of the VFX and sounds when doing actions, lotta reused stuff
I know right? I expect when they make a game they waste all there time on creating new wooden boxes from scratch. I mean that's what is important screw the story or real elements of the game. Cause if i have to see one reused tree its peace out and i need to find a new game. How dare they reuse anything? Unforgivable!
My roommate got BG3 & it's gorgeous on her gaming PC! I can't wait to play it. Hair & clothes textures look a bit TOO real & sharp to me, but that's a consequence of powerful graphics & I guess it's a good issue to have.😁 I see some comments that reflect angst about BG3 being different than BG2/1. It's understandable for fans to resist change. But games look and play differently now. In order to sell enough copies to support development, new BG games must appeal to a broad audience of gamers, many of whom weren't born when BG1/2 released. I have faith in Larian but even if you don't, I think we should all trust the makers of DnD to create an appropriate game. Wizards (owner of DnD, now owned by Hasbro) chose Larian to make BG3 bc they liked DOS2. The public liked it too, which is why it's been wildly successful & ported to many platforms. DnD creative teams are working closely with Larian Studio to achieve their shared vision for BG3
Although I agree with some of what you say particularly about Larian (a proven RPG developer) being chosen by WOTSC/Hasbro to make a good game that follows the lore of D&D etc it means they can certainly be a good choice to develop a game for a broad spectrum of gamers. It is debatable whether this is a good choice because the Divinity games (good in their own right) and Larians style is a polar opposite of Baldurs Gate in feel, characters and story writing. It does not mean they are not up to the task but there are other companies that would be more naturally inclined to continue those elements achieved by the original developers. The problem is they are using the name of a franchise that is much more than its D&D roots. Its popularity as perhaps one of if not the best CRPG in history, has created a huge following. I understand that some changes are normal due to the large timespan from the last game but Larian have forgone any inkling of what made those games unique from other D&D games. If they use the name Baldurs Gate one would assume they want to draw the attention of new players as well as the followers of the series. They have not which means they have effectively ignored the latter part of the consumer base completely, not very intelligent as they will receive huge flak on the forums and review sites. Larian has resulted in many of that original fanbase to not consider it a worthy component of the series and will not buy it. Neither Hasbro or Larian have the fans in mind which is sad to see, they only want to make money with a broader younger audience with the reputation of other peoples visions and hard work just like the trash Disney made with the new Star Wars movies (thank God for Mandalorian). P.S. Even Beamdogs Siege from Dragonspear (BG 1.5) stayed truer to the source material and they took the easy route of using the same engine.
Looks great! But sadly not in state that i would buy early access that costs 60€. But i hope many people buys this so developers get money to complete this masterpiece
Looks like there are a lot of crinks that need ironing out. But I trust Larian Studios. Their track record before this game has been amazing. And I trust the support they will extend to this game will be great as well. But just as with the divinity games, I imagine I will have to wait a bit longer for the "extended cut" before purchasing the game.
I didn't beat DOS 2 but I played it for awhile and that's what it feels like I am still playing. It feels really similar cuz you meet all your companions early it seems.
The graphics are great! This is a good demonstration for Stadia’s potential as far as how powerful the hardware is, and theoretically it’ll only get better.
you know, they're serving you things that are hardest to polish and adjust - combat. that's the reason why the demo is most probably combat heavy. no need to test story, interactions etc etc
I haven't played Baldur's Gate 1, nor Bladur's Gate 2, which makes Baldur's Gate 3 all the more intriguing and interesting. Having said that, I'll wait until the final game releases before I give it a shot. Otherwise, thanks as always Karak for the great video!

Praying for a console release further down the road like they did with divinity 1&2.
Balders Gate 2 us my all time favourite game.
The details with these characters models just put ubisoft's one's to shame! Good job Larian 👍
The only problem with Larian is such that they actually listen to fans too much, like implementing the armor system in DOS2 to reduce DOS1 RNG status ailments people complained about, so I hope they'll focus more on consistent mechanics even if it makes some fans angry.
Every Larian game starts on a beach lol. Looking forward to playing, downloading now.
Super excited for this game and am happy Larian is the one doing it. Going to wait a bit before I bite. Full price for early access is kind of odd, so I'll probably just wait for the full release to pick it up. Nice to see how it is holding up so far.
I rather play a game that has strong story and characters than one that only has graphics.
And this one has both IMHO.
What lore? DOS had little to none of it xD
@@Alaestr i dont think you even know what lore is
@@R3in_Ch You need a meme about the truth pill too tough to swallow.
I've been DMing Baldurs Gate: Descent into Avernus for a year, I am so excited to see any tie ins theyve put in, got the early access doenloading now
The graphics look so good!
DOS2 is one of my favorite games of all time, so I look forward to picking this up when it’s out of early access.
I'll wait for the full release, i feel like Early Access is bound to ruin the game for me
that's pretty much what the devs said: don't buy the early access unless you're fine with limited content and bugs, just get ver. 1.0 when it comes out. (not verbatim, but the just of it is the same)
More generally, I think the hype fades away until 1.0
Tortuosit of Tapiola Yeah divinity sin proves that ... oh wait no because the first act was only a beginning and the other act where even more better and yes at release it was hyped by the fans
I dunno, to me this feels like Divinity Original Sin 2 with a Baldur's Gate skin tacked on it...
That's what had me worried. When I saw percentile hit chances in combat it filled me with Dread.
I hope it is. DOS2 was a masterpiece, the closest thing to BG2 I experienced.
I think DOS2 already was their Witcher 3. A masterpiece imho.
for me it looks still like they just made another Divinity game, there is nothing in there that speaks Baldur's gate for me in this game
People from the OG Baldurs gate are working on this game silly child
@@spiritualsoul2711 name them
@Spiritual Soul, condescending responses don’t prove intelligence.
There's a good reason you are one of my go-to guys. Solid stuff.
I am so stoked for this. Thanks for the peek at it!
This looks amazing. Looking forward to the full release.
I am afraid it is still divinity original sin III to my eyes, I miss the feeling of Baldur's Gate.
Play Baldur's Gate then. You should be thankful, that they chosen Larian Studios to make the next BG, and not EA or Ubisoft for example.
@@cdave2006 How do you know I wasn't backing both of those games? Are you a mentalist or something?
@@klarnorbert chill out, I am just saying I want this game to be better. And I know it can be.
@@cdave2006 It will be with Larian if anyone! High hopes here.
I'm getting ready to play it tonight. Can't wait. BUT, it seems more like DOS 3 with the BG name on it. Don't get me wrong, I love both DOS games, but it doesn't look like it has the BG feel to it.
only visually. Mechanically it's leaps and bounds above DOS.
@@aaronhumphrey3514 Its nothing like Divinity though...
What is a CRPG never heard that term before
@@kole9158 Classic RPG. It's a genre and it refers to isometric RPGs like Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Fallout etc
k4yser technically it means Computer Role Playing Game because that was the term used in the 80s and 90s when it was coined but classic is a much more accurate description now a days. It was called a computer rpg back in the day because back then table top rpgs were more common
@@kole9158 Lol.... well thats no longer a easy one to answer... classically speaking it means Computer Role Playing Game but now a days it generally means Iso metric RPG with a top down camra.
I love how all of ACG's videos are so consistent in quality.
Goddamn Karak! When you said few more videos are coming soon in your new Watch Dogs 3 Impressions I didn't expected it to be even this quick. 😅 Thanks! 👍
I loved DOS2, all i wanted was some sort of post-game gameplay like dungeon delving or something :D
Yo why are these the best facial animations I've seen all year?
Liking what your showing and discussing. Larian Studios really is/was the perfect studio to take up part 3, from what I am seeing an hearing it really seems this has a chance to be a very well done special game fans of BG (most) can really sink their teeth into.
Appreciate the rundown of the early access...definitely a good reason to wait for them to fully flesh it out
Digging the almost sensual "beard jiggle" physics
This make me want to play the first two Baldurs Gate titles again before I jump head first into the new one. Its been ages. They were pretty much the first serious games I played too back in the day. Then Planescape ect.
Playing through the enhanced editions all these years later was definitely worth it, IMHO.
@@JeradBenge Right!!!!I forgot that they gave them a good polish. Will definitely do so now
you're the best game reviewer on youtube ACG!!
Happy to see this title coming along nicely. I'm just gonna wait for the full release. Lord knows I have plenty to play in the mean time. Can't wait!
I am so excited for this game. Hope to get to play this soon!
I'm afraid of this one. How do you top a plot where you were the offspring of a god and shook all the world? I'll definitely check this out since BG is the all time favourite god-tier game of my childhood but I don't dare to elevate my expectations to the skies.
This is basically Divinity Original Sin 3 in a DnD setting. And I'm absolutely loving it.
Thanks for this preview. I am excited for this game.
Wow, 700k almost reached. Well deserved, congrats!
True D&D games are always a fun time. The unexpected elements and battle strategys with great story. This looks to be an essential buy.
Ah. We're going the Lovecraft direction in this D&D. Nice.
Thanks for your take on this. I am really looking forward to this and also Diablo IV
This feels more like a new divinity game than baldurs gate - but that is fine with me. I agree, Larian are the right guys for this.
ACG - You raised all my points. Congrats.
The waggling beard is a feature not a bug.
My big thing about Baulder's gate is having a big sprawling hub city and I haven't heard anything about it from this game.
Probably its just not in the first chapter
@@Gaudaloth Well the 1st chapter is suppose to be 25 hours long. So if you don't get there in that time , I don't know when you will.

I haven't played Baldur's Gate 1, nor Bladur's Gate 2, which makes Baldur's Gate 3 all the more intriguing and interesting. Having said that, I'll wait until the final game releases before I give it a shot. Otherwise, thanks as always Karak for the great video!
This is the only game in the last year-ish that i didn't wait for ACG to give me a heads up. i've simped for larian since divine divinity
oh yeah i grew up on these games !!
its just what i've been waiting for, and more.. it usually makes me feel uncomfortable when people talk about waifus in game but after meeting shadowheart i can see where they're coming from . . .
Prior Divinity games had a bit of a 'claymation' feel to them to me, but BG3 seems to be going beyond that now and some of the characters are really striking looking.
