    Correction: your feet can be out of the water for the start, but your toes can’t curl over the edge and use the wall for leverage. So, if you are going to have your feet above the water and there isn’t a large gutter (like this pool) be careful that your toes don’t curl over and use the wall! 👍🏻👍🏻
    FINA Swimming Rule:
    SW 6.1
    “Standing in or on the gutter or bending the toes over the lip of the gutter is prohibited.”
    Also, “Bending the toes over the top of the touch pad is prohibited.”

    Wow! We did these with our club swimmers in Dorset in the UK tonight and it worked out brilliantly! Thank you so much for your fantastic videos! The swimmers really enjoyed it too!

    Hi Lindsey, as always, your progression video is awesome -- short, sweet, and highly informative. Again, I've watched a zillion swimming how-to videos (boy, there sure are a lot of them out there!), and yours are among the best! Very impressive ... especially for a young person. I think this home-schooling lesson of running a UA-cam channel will serve you very well in the future, as being able to communicate clearly and succinctly is so very important. Keep up the good work! :-)

    I am a backstroker and my starts are so bad I slip every time even with a ledge

    • @SwimLifeGuru
      @SwimLifeGuru  5 років тому +4

      That could be because you’re not shifting your weight onto your toes when you take your mark. Taking your mark isn’t just lifting yourself up, but you also need to lean your knees slightly forward so your weight is balanced more on your toes for a strong push off. If more of your weight is hanging behind your toes, you’ll be more likely to slip since your balanced on your heels.
      You could also be pulling yourself forwards rather than up when you take your mark. So you could try taking your mark, but lift yourself up more and bring your knees sightly forward so you’re balanced on your toes! I hope this helps!❤️❤️

    weird fact that i always think abt when i think abt backstroke starts: my friend was doing a practice back start at a championship meet time trial and she somehow over rotated and hit her face on the bottom of a 14 ft pool and had to get stiches in her nose. 🤷‍♀️ be careful kids

    Thanks, good video :) backstroke is actually my fastest stroke, probably because i have strong legs and backstroke is a very leg-driven stroke. I like it :) u look great in that swimming suit btw, keep swimming, see ya :)

    I’m sad my community pool currently is very shallow and I’m pretty tall so when I’m practicing the turns my hands get scraped at the bottom of the pool some it’s only a few meters deep :(

    What about a No Deep End pools? The Olympic Pool @ Coventry has no deep end at either end of the 50 metre ends, but a 16'6" Diving Pool with boards, when the pool is 28m mode. Thanks.

    • @SwimLifeGuru
      @SwimLifeGuru  5 років тому

      I guess you’ll just have to find a pool that does have a shallow end❤️ I’m trying to think of a way to do the first two steps in a deep pool, but I can’t... if you have any ideas I’d love to know!! 👍🏻

    my coach put me in the 100 back knowing well i cannot do a backstroke start so yeah let’s just say the meet last week was incredibly embarrassing 🙈

    • @yejikwak8114
      @yejikwak8114 3 роки тому

      My coach put me in the 200 back even though I hadn't been at practice for a while. It was a big meet because it was the last meet of the season. My coach knew I wasn't a backstroker but he still put me in it and I got disqualified. :(
      And then I was so upset and embarrassed that I looked down while I was going towards the locker rooms that I almost went into the wrong locker room 😂😂😂
