This is one of my favorite songs from the past ten years. I could relate to a lot of the lyrics--something I usually don't pay much attention to--because I became a father and kind of lost my religion all at once. So the lyrics to this song were really relatable to me. Thanks for doing this song Doug!
I’m privileged to know these guys and felt it right to point out that Sam recently attained his PHD in Music. The man is amazing and as a band they’re incredible live.
We're under some kind of a transition when The Daily Doug is becoming more and more a literature class in addition to the good old music analysis. And as far as I'm concerned: it's fascinating.
graves is an underated piece of artwork. Such an amzing song. I love listening to the progression and the lyrics always make me tear up. Unparralled piece of musicianship.
Somehow this band never showed up on my radar but i am glad your brought this to light , Doug, as i am enjoying this song immensely. It is hard to come across a band with such tasteful compositional skills, beautiful melodies, mysterious moods and just the right amount of nasty metaldom. Excellent work.
Hi Andrade! This is probably their most impressive single piece, but I think you will thoroughly enjoy an exploration into their other pieces and albums. CH is a tremendously talented and impressive band and I hope you do check out their other songs and albums and enjoy them as much as I do. Both “In Contact” and “Rise Radiant” are wonderful albums worthy of exploration.
I think, the stone masonry here is the metaphor for how parents raising their children, shaping them. It’s hard work, and it becomes harder when you observe what you did, and start losing faith in yourself and in your work - then you reconcile and understand that the work is never done, until your son becomes a father as well and face the same.
This was a beautiful listen! I'm an Aussie who has never listened to these guys, and now I'll make sure to pick up some music and support them! Amazing! Thanks for sharing the experience :)
Gday champion! We have a festival lined up next year called Uncaged. Lots of big Aussie bands with wolfmother headlining but Caligulas Horse will be playing too :)
So glad you found this! I remember when I first listened to this song and I couldn't stop thinking 'wow this is unique'. Honestly when I think of a unique, special, one-of-a-kind song, Graves is what comes to my mind first.
Oh my Lord!! Doug!! Thank you for agreeing to do C-Horse!! Absolutely one of my favorites. For more delicious prog instrumental deliciousness, check out Plini.
One of the best prog metal songs of the last 20 years. Doug pls react to the epic Last Goodbye by Circus Maximus, right up there with this and another proper emotional tear jerker.
I recommend you guys follow along with lyrics. Very powerful stuff. If you notice a trend. I love songs that involve being a father. Beautiful song. Thanks for bringing them to the channel Doug.
I just recently found Caligula's Horse but only have 1 of their albums so far (not this one) but love what Ive heard so will definitely be getting more of their stuff down the road. Keep up the good work
You gotta do "Salt" and "The Ascent" from their latest album "Rise Radiant" as well. Oh...and the title track to Dream Theater's new record, "A view from the top of the world". You simply HAVE to do that track asap!
I second Salt or The Ascent... I'd even suggest listening to Autumn and The Ascent back to back as I feel these two songs NEED to be listened to together to experience the full scope of C-Horse's beautiful vision.
How about some Mr. Bungle? My first pick would be "None of them knew they were robots", then after check out "Air conditioned nightmare", "Ars Moriendi", "Goodbye Sober day" off their California album..... LOL.

I love Dream Theater which is how I found your reactions, but my two recent discoveries in the last few years have been Caligula’s Horse and Seventh Wonder. Thank you for showcasing Caligula’s Horse on your channel and if you’re looking for another new band to react to, I highly recommend checking out Seventh Wonder. In my opinion Caligula's horse are a great prog band...really great musicians: deep lyrics, beautiful music choices, they all have great chops and very musical...i listen to them from their debut album in 2011
One of my all-time favorite tracks! Great choice, Doug. Really enjoying the channel and your interpretations, adds depth to my understanding and experience of these tunes. Highly recommend Salt or The Tempest off their latest album, Rise Radiant. A band that hasn't appeared on the channel in the same vein as CHorse and Haken is VOLA
These Brisbane boys are absolute legends ! I saw them when they opened for Opeth and Mastodon. Absolutely mental nights. Their first album is very special to me.
All I can say is "Thank You " for bringing one of my most heard bands '20 back on radar. I further recommend the beautiful and truly unique " Rishloo", imho the truly most underrated band period ! Feathergun is the perfect key to open the door for their musical dimension. Awesome!
@@Doug.Helvering okay Doug, I just informed Brian May on his channel and all of his loyal viewers know as well that this coming Wednesday or Thursday the daily Doug, classical composer reacts to Queen The Show Must Go On is happening. Give us a good show Doug you chose this one.

It's like an operetta. Love CH! Other album on frequent rotation on my MP3. One song has a lyric "his hand on her neck" that just chills me, every time. Enjoyed the analysis.🤘

But the whole album is just straight up bangers. Water's Edge, Thief, A Gift to the Afterthought... I get shivers just thinking about that album. Would be awesome if you did maybe a song or three of their stuff from that period :)

They're a very unique band that blends together progressive rock with jazz, salsa, soundscapes and punk, I think you'll be able to really sink your teeth into their music.

Hey Doug, I love your content especially compared to other react channels since they usually don't comment on the musical theory at all. I noticed from your Opeth videos that you really like the weird chord progressions and transitions. Please consider watching some Avenged Sevenfold. They often incorporate partial or full orchestral sections and do a great job over all to really fill as much of the musical space. I suggest Sidewinder, Unbound and The Wicked End for a start. A Little Piece of Heaven is a masterpiece but it's subject matter is maybe a bit to sinister for your channel. In any case, thank you for these videos and take care!

watching someone reacting to a piece of music by commenting what chords are played, is like watching soccer and hear the commentator say what foot the player is using...
Waves receding and faith is fading like the sun, the work left undone... It's his anger and her belief in him... maybe like the sun, her faith will return, but not just because he has calmed down. He has to wait for the new day, aka her, to give him another chance. The work left undone his being a father.. His anger may have died down, but the damage has been done.. or at least he fears? That's my interpretation..
Please do something by the Beach Boys and master composer/arranger/producer/player/singer Brian Wilson. This whole world (incredible key/chord changes), Surf's up, Leaving this town....the whole of the Pet sounds and Smile sessions albums...
I see this song as a man which had an abusive father and is scared to have a child and end up making the same mistakes with him. After working so hard in life to not be like that, something happens to him and ends in him killing his wife (she married my anger too). That's why he wonders "what I'm going to say to my son now".

Would be great to hear your reaction to something by Thank You Scientist!
Belgian beer 👌🏼
I see this song as a man which had an abusive father and is scared to have a child and end up making the same mistakes with him. After working so hard in life to not be like that, something happens to him and ends in him killing his wife (she married my anger too). That's why he wonders "what I'm going to say to my son now".
Time to do Swedish Band "Moon Safari", a progressive rock band doing a lot of vocal harmonies. I suggest you start of with the 13 minute track "A kid called panic" and take it from there! A great band that deserves a shot on your equally great channel Doug.
100%. A Kid Called Panic or Constant Bloom + Methuselah’s Children would be awesome reactions. No one does vocal harmonies in prog better!
Manowar-Heart of steel (with orchestra or not)
