In the 50s and early 60s, I remember going to weddings and watching the men dance with each other after they wore the women out on the dance floor. They would pool their money together so the band would stay and play until three a.m. The married guys in their thirties pulled off astounding moves while jitterbugging. So glad I lived to see them and their limitless energy. They held nothing back when they could finally dance with a partner of equal strength. We all loved it.
Wish i had known that. As a participant in the country music 2-stepping craze of the 90’s, I recall fewer joys that surpassed being able to lead or follow at will..
My sister and myself were two of the many extras in a crowd scene, shot in our hometown of Bournemouth in the south coast of England. This was our 15 milliseconds of fame!
this is what i think, when danced beautifully a man and woman feels like two worlds connecting, when woman and woman dance it feels like the touch of natures tenderness and when man and man dance i feel like its a ritual of strength and power dancing without dominance just confidence and security, the only time where two gems stand out without destroying the other....this was excellent!!!!

Even Rudolf himself had said he is proud of carrying Tatar blood and he grew up with Tatar Language and Customs in a Tatar Muslim household. He also said he knows they are relatives with Bashkirs- another Turkic Peoples from the Kipchak Branch. Well, i guess somebody who doesn't even know how to write "Tatar" is jealous of how diverse the Turks are, huh?
I wonder if Nijinsky and Valentino really did this. Never come across it in all my studies of Nijinsky but they could have. Love it regardless. Thanks for posting it.

Tango originated as primary male dance (due to lack of women at the time, no other reason), so yeah, many would have guessed men could dance tango perfectly well...
In the anglo world and really, they're robotic, thus why they have to finish with a gymnastic routine, again, very anglo (generally the worst "dancers'" on the planet).
@@gregd6022 That's not a "gymnastic" routine, it's ballet. Both Nureyev and Dowell are ballet dancers. Neither in the slightest bit robotic, especially Nureyev.

I heard a really interesting piece abt tango on BBC World last yr: it said that during the early days of tango, men danced together so they could perfect their moves and reach the point where they were ready to show off with female partners. It wasn't primarily abt. homosexuality, "not that there's anything wrong with that".
