qhsperson They can indeed! It's not very common, partially because the point of pointe is to look weightless and etherial and men aren't usually looking to look that way, lol. There's also the weight issue, male dancers weigh a lot more and that's a lot of added pressure on such small bones. So it's a lot of stress to create a look that's opposite to traditional male ballet roles. But there are lots of men who've done it (professionally and recreationally). There's even a ballet troupe where all the men dance en pointe, Les Ballet Trockadero. They're very funny, you should check them out!
I just looked up who was dancing in the pig costume because I was so curious (you could tell they were *good*. Apparently his name was Graham Fletcher and he was a dancer with the Royal Ballet in the UK (at the Royal Opera House). In his later years he was a ballet teacher in the UK.

How fortunate we are to have footage of this legend. It's like watching a miracle happen!
I remember watching this when I was a little girl. I laughed so hard, and had a huge crush on Mr. Nureyev (I couldn’t blame Miss Piggy for throwing herself at him)😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
serious - Muppets and their scetches/numbers never getting old. Even it were (not only) a children program, it's very very clever and professionally made
omg hilariously brilliant! I don't recall seeing this as a child.
and my friend Sue (who is also Sue in the Muppets and yes she has blond curls) made that top that Nureyev is wearing. He liked it so much it went into his repertoire.
I was always amazed at the truly big stars that appeared on this show.
Yes! Remember when Roger Moore was on it? I loved that.
Huh! No word! Just fantastic! We may have language barriers but we have dance expressions of the body movements, face and of course ,musical expressions.
Excellent - we miss you Rudolph
And we do a helluva good job.
somewhere under all that huge costume is some poor dancer dancing en pointe!!!
A male dancer no less!
Not a poor dancer. A brilliant one.
@@AnneliesvanOverbeek unlikely. that is real pointe skill
Dawn Maclear it’s true though, look it up!
Here is proof that it is in fact a male dancing the pig

Totally brilliant !! Loved it !
This is extremely creative and funny, I love it !
Oh my land ❤❤❤❤❤Fantastic! He is such a dream to watch.
Love!!! Muppets and Jim Henson are the Best!!!! And Nureyev Beautiful!!!
Even in this fun skit, Nureyev is such an incredible dancer.
Hello Peggy, How are you doing?
Nureyev at his best!! Brilliant.
I haven't laughed this hard in a while! Absolutely loved it! Rudolph is wonderful! Great sense of humor!!!
Even Miss Piggy said that to him, when they were in the sauna.
He really lived to share talent and hope. He lived as much as live could give. RIP Nureyev ❤.
The Muppet Show was fabulous - witty and humane.
Whoever is in the Miss Piggy costume does ballet very well. If you get a chance read the book Dancer about Rudolf Nureyev.
😂❤ QUE BELLO!!! CÓMO EXTRAÑO ESTE PROGRAMA...❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Only needs one word BRILLIANT.👍👍👍👍
