I found this and tried the htv liner. AWESOME! I did my htv on my vinyl and then cut it on my Scan and cut, then installed my zipper according to the pattern.
Thank you so much for doing this! I've done the fabric hack before, but it's so much easier to follow along with a video. Every time I try to follow along the written directions that I have for it, I always seem to miss a step and have to go back and correct mistakes. The video's always mean not missing steps. ♥
I’ve had the purse pal and the pocket pal patterns for a while. I made them and they were okay. After your tutorial, I made some more with HTV and the tabs. What an amazing difference. I love the ideas! Thank you 😍
Hi Jess....what makes this tutorial even BETTER, when 2 creators come together & support each other! AMAZING!!!! 👏 ❤❤❤ Love Linds patterns, this was a great added BONUS!
My customers were wary of the cash pocket not being secure so I add another snap to the cash pocket so that it keeps closed. After I topstitch the cash pocket (with the card slots) I find the center and add the male part of the snap pretty much right under the top stitch on the side of the pocket that's going to be on the inside. and then I line it up with the folded main piece before sewing, to add the female side of the snap under the liner of the zip pocket. You have to basically undo the spray adhesive to that side of the pocket liner in order the attach the snap but it's pretty easy if you're not using the hardcore glue beforehand. I wait to glue my main piece until after I attach that snap. Also, my machine hates double-sided tape. It ruins my needle and makes the stitches really bad. So I use the glue stick on the card slots and the zipper and I iron after every fold in the card slot strip to keep in place.
I absolutely love this hack!! I am nervous to work with vinyl and I have, like everyone else, have a ton of quilt cotton. Thank you Kirby for figuring this out. I have already made one and I have to say I am impressed with myself 🤣🤣. Jess Oklaroots you do an amazing job explaining the steps. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the informative video of the pursepal hacks . I have seen them on the Facebook group but couldn't quite work out how it was done, since watching this tutorial it's like a light bulb moment and now they make sense as I'm a visual learner. Another great tutorial from you and very easy to follow and understand.
I love the hacks! I made my first pursepal today after watching a couple of tutorials like this one! My hack for the creditcard slip was to use machine embroidery lightweight cutaway interfacing. Worked perfectly!!!
@@OklaRoots thank YOU for putting this together! Your work is so appreciated!!! Also thank you Kirby for this brilliant hack, and Krystal for the HTV idea! I would have never thought to use HTV as a lining but what a great cost and time saver
Holy Guacamole!!! Thanks for the fantastic video!!!
I’m sew missing my craft room esp after watching this!!! (we recently moved) This will definitely be one I want to make. Great Christmas gifts. Thx Jess, you rock💞 and thanks to the ladies for their hacks💜
Thank you for the great video! I bought the pattern the other day and love the lining and D ring hacks but I just saw one with an ID window below the card slots and would love a hack for that, also.
Love these hacks. With the first one, if you glue the external edges down and then glue the lining fabric over the top, you won’t have any raw edges showing inside, well I didn’t anyway. Going to try the htv one next.
This is what I did also. I also made A smaller zipper facing 2x7" instead of stitiching the lining, ironed it down, then put the lining and zipper in like the original pattern.I use the exterior fabric for the facing too.
OMG Im so lucky to be subscribec to your youtube channel I just made a couple of these and today by chance I happen to see this video and got the snap tabs for my next purse pal thank you so much for sharing
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns really! I was thinking about doing that, and wondering how well thin htv would cover the ends of the zipper tape/teeth and if they would eventually wear through, separate, peel, etc. Any feedback? (Thanks!)
@@Audtoo Jess linked to Krystal’s video above, she’s Charmingcheekboutique. I’ve actually never done any of these hacks. I only do it the traditional way I’ve written it, with leather for the most part.
An easier way to do this is to make a faced central zipper opening in the outer and lining fabric ( wash away stabilizer would be good as the temporary facing). Attach the zipper to the lining. Place the outer and lining fabric face sides together and sew around the outside. Turn through the central hole, top stitch the face and lining fabric together around the zip. This saves all the time folding in the edges.
For the htv lining hack, for cutting it with a cutting machine, you can either adhere the htv to the exterior vinyl first, or you can duplicate both the lining and exterior layers and align them so they are centered, then slice, it will leave the zipper cutout on your lining piece, and you can toss out the extra cuts. this way everything will line up perfectly during assembly.
Hi. Where did you find that beautiful metallic snakeskin vinyl in the first example you showed within the first minute of this video? Thank you, by the way, for the detailed tutorial you made using vinyl. I have had tons of success.
I think I need to stop watching you videos. You make me want to buy all the patterns and all the cheeky wee goodies. Embroidery machine , HTV embroidery files pretty vinyls 😂😂😂😂. In all seriousness I adore your videos. I am super keen on HTV for this project though. When I do buy this pattern I’ll be using that hack for sure as I love the cheeky wee bit of glitter in the pocket. Thank you Jess for sharing the hacks from these lovely makers xxxx
I use sublimated waterproof canvas for the zipper pocket on the outside and inside with decovil heavy between the two layers and then I edge coat everything it works great.
Oh my gosh, I literally just cut everything out and applied my zipper. I may just remove the zipper and cut HTV. This will be so much better and easy! Lol. Thank you! What size needle did you use for your Bernina to sew these please? You’re awesome!
Could you add the zipper before the HTV so the edges of the zipper aren't visible? Cute, cute idea! I have tons of HTV and lots of glitter vinyl. Time to purchase a pattern, lol!
I thought you might want to know about the new elastic thread from Germany called Saraflex, you can machine wind it on a bobbin but you have to go slow while winding or you'll warp it
Loving the hacks. What I would do though is before you 505 spray the lining down, fold down the outside edges under the lining. Then when you spray you get them all together. Not needing to double glue....If you use HTV as the lining you dont have to use glue at all....
Thank you for this amazing video. Question, I am having trouble figuring out the process using vinyl instead of fabric on the outer and pulling through the inner fabric lining. Help and ty!
Ok I love the hacks, in particular using the htv for the lining of the coin pocket. However, how do you insert your tab underneath it when you go to put everything together? I could not for love nor money get the htv unstuck even a little bit from my vinyl in order to stick the tab down under it!
I absolutely love how Lindsey does her tutorials for her patterns & also allows creators to do tutorials too. I don’t see why more pattern writers don’t do it, it’s only giving them more advertising w/ possible alternative ways to make the pattern. I know there’s a bag/backpack that I would absolutely love to make but I don’t care for binding & the one person who was allowed to do a tutorial on it (not the pattern creator) even said the bag could easily be made via gusset but there hasn’t been a tutorial on it since. So I haven’t even bought it. I know a YT reached out to ask to make it & wasn’t able to. So what’s the point if the pattern creator doesn’t want anyone else making it 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Love all these Hacks Jess!! Just bought the pattern for both Purse and Pocket Pals. Been putting it off 😆! So one question, if I do the cotton exterior hack with the HTV hack instead if cotton lining,, what about the exterior fabric edges in the zipper hole? Do you still just sew around the hole, then cut and fold and glue then apply HTV, then apply zipper? Or can you only use the HTV hack with Vinyl Exterior. Thanks!!
i find it difficult to source nice vinyl so i have bought some clear heat transfer vinyl to try and in effect laminate some quilt cotton. haven’t done it yet though cos i’m scared to ruin it 😂 xx

Wow!! Thank u so much Jess! Thank u for looking out for the UA-camrs. U are an amazing teacher. Question: Is there anyway u can place the zipper between the vinyl n lining to hide the raw edges of the zipper?
Hi! Krystal here. Jess has my video linked where I first showed the idea. I should do an update but yes, you can fuse the HTV after you’ve installed the snap, credit card slots and zipper.
Hi! :) Any thoughts on using HTV for the snap tab too? :) I did a leather strap all alone because it seemed plenty think but I thought the HTV would be fun too. Since this was my first time using it, I am not sure how well the edges stay in place, but with topstitching maybe it would be just fine?
I have a hack for you on this project, make it a little longer so the cell phone fits in the slip pocket, instead of placing the zipper on the fold place it on the from about half an inch below the fold.
I purchased a similar wallet several years ago which I use ALL the time. I bought this pattern but it's missing what mine has. I didn't realize it at the time.
