I think it's great that you had (have?) a best friend who was str8 and liked to cuddle with you. Why shouldn't men express affection for one another without any sexual intent involved? I think you interpreted the situation correctly: he was physically drawn to you but mentally unprepared to act upon the situation given the public nature of your caressing courtship. Then a compliment or two to ease the realization that he’s making you feel good. I’ve had various levels of reaction and yet I found it better than just wondering. Even an exchange of how he makes you va him feel.

In a situation like this Davey, things can either go right OR not. You might be surprised on how many "str8" guys just do things like this as a tease. They get off on it! Davey, during the 80's things got crazy what with all of the sickness and all. People you might know were dying all over. Quit scary! Many of us just quit going out to bars and even practicing in the gay scene and married a woman just to stay away from it. I put in 22 years of str8 life, help raise three kids, then my wife left me for another guy. Now, here I am trying to "catch up" so to speak.
Way too familiar, as a feminine gay guy, I have had several experiences where beautiful straight men flirt with me. When you are in the military or navy sometimes every one needs a little affection. That has nothing to do with a gay relationship. What I have figured out over the years is that from the time a little boy becomes aware of himself until he becomes an adult we all need food and shelter and someone to care about us. I don't think of most affection as love but in fact there's an element of love when you care about someone close to you.

I can 100% relate to this mind dance. Many straight guys are comfortable, open-minded, genuinely nice, well-built, into taking care of their appearance and dressing thoughtfully. That in itself is confusing to some of us gay guys, since those used to be some of our signals. However, there is still the risk element with straight guys because some will gay bash and you can end up injured or worse.
I've experienced that kinda thing a lot in my long and eventful life. There is an especially large amount of uncharted terrain in men's interactions with one another. So often i have had experiences that were very moving, intimate, or just kinda sexy but were not clearly "gay" or "straight" (or even clearly "sexual" or "not sexual")! The idea that there were two "kinds of people" defined by being attracted to "their own" or "the opposite" sex (read gender) is an idea that was invented about 150 years ago to limit and control people's behavior (See: Foucault's "History of Sexuality"). People aren't really like that. People are complex. Yeah, even people who look like straight, cis*- dudes.

The possibility does remain that there might have been some level of attraction or curiosity.

In a situation like this Davey, things can either go right OR not. You might be surprised on how many "str8" guys just do things like this as a tease. They get off on it! Davey, during the 80's things got crazy what with all of the sickness and all. People you might know were dying all over. Quit scary! Many of us just quit going out to bars and even practicing in the gay scene and married a woman just to stay away from it. I put in 22 years of str8 life, help raise three kids, then my wife left me for another guy. Now, here I am trying to "catch up" so to speak.

Way too familiar, as a feminine gay guy, I have had several experiences where beautiful straight men flirt with me. When you are in the military or navy sometimes every one needs a little affection. That has nothing to do with a gay relationship. What I have figured out over the years is that from the time a little boy becomes aware of himself until he becomes an adult we all need food and shelter and someone to care about us. I don't think of most affection as love but in fact there's an element of love when you care about someone close to you.

I can 100% relate to this mind dance. Many straight guys are comfortable, open-minded, genuinely nice, well-built, into taking care of their appearance and dressing thoughtfully. That in itself is confusing to some of us gay guys, since those used to be some of our signals. However, there is still the risk element with straight guys because some will gay bash and you can end up injured or worse.

I've experienced that kinda thing a lot in my long and eventful life. There is an especially large amount of uncharted terrain in men's interactions with one another. So often i have had experiences that were very moving, intimate, or just kinda sexy but were not clearly "gay" or "straight" (or even clearly "sexual" or "not sexual")!
The idea that there were two "kinds of people" defined by being attracted to "their own" or "the opposite" sex (read gender) is an idea that was invented about 150 years ago to limit and control people's behavior (See: Foucault's "History of Sexuality"). People aren't really like that. People are complex. Yeah, even people who look like straight, cis*- dudes.

The most funny part of the whole situation was the guy looked at me and he was like hey you look familiar, I think we are friends on Facebook. In my head I knew what he wanted so I played along 😂😂. The possibility does remain that there might have been some level of attraction or curiosity.
When i was a kid this used to happen when sitting to certain other guys on the bus or sunday school etc. Our legs are touching... Its gotta mean something! Thirty years later still remember those moments. My gaydar is completely unreliable so i would never make the first move.

I know exactly what you’re talking about!!! I had a very similar experience with my “straight” friend at a sleepover.....we hooked up that night.
It can be sheer torture of frustration (usually) to sit next to another passenger like that who is such a turn-on. Yeah, the body gets super-sensitive as arousal sets in. When I was young and foolish enough to go further with that in my twenties and thirties, I actually ended up doing some heavy petting and to have sex with such a guy, twice on a train, another time on a bus.
