I have seen a lot of bad Origin experiences, the look and feel of The site and also the rigs that are sponsored(free pc's that are sent out lke this one) always look so good, In reality, they are put together poorly for most customers, they cut corners and as you said it is WAY overpriced, I spent $6400 on one and it had TONS of problems, BAD cable management and even made a video that doesn't even show everything I found later on as I made it in the heat of the moment. Thanks for such an honest review, love your sense of ethics & integrity. Even though they gave you a loaded out computer, you reviewed it honestly and could not in the end recommend it for its price and makeup, especially the warranty which was pretty much a joke. One year for over $4,000? Ridiculous it should be at least 3 years for that price. Also I find it absolutely infuriating from luxury PC assemblers to have cases with poor front airflow that you need 9 to 10 fans to keep everything cool. That kind of bad decision making is beyond me. Thanks for another great and informative video and an honest review. Could not recommend it either, but would sure use it if I won it, after drilling holes in the front for better airflow.

More recently than this video, Origin was sending out computers that were not even tuned, like the fan curve was ramping up to 100% when the CPU was only at 40°C. A lot of people that buy pre-built gaming computers do it so it's ready out of the box with no additional need for tweaking (except maybe RGB or other random personalization). I'm not sure if Corsair/Origin ever changed in that aspect...but spending 4, 5 or even 6k on a PC to be ready to go and then it's not, is quite sickening.

I specced out my same Corsair vengeance build on Origin and it's $700 more expensive. I did some snooping and estimated Corsair was charging about $300 over retail, and since they make most of the parts in the PC (the case, PSU, cooler, RAM, SSD), they get their normal retail markup. That actually seems fair with free shipping, support, and assembly which seems like a decent quality. Origin's pricing seems like a bit of an issue.

While a comment i made on another video may have been misunderstood, but was critical, i totally agree with you on this one! I am a big advocate on building your own PC, not just for the money savings or customization and choice of parts, but the feeling of ownership is much higher. I have bought or built a few for my son over the years but as an adult he wanted to build his own from scratch with my oversight. Not only did he do a stellar job, but the way he cares for it is impressive. He wont even eat at his desk now! I saw some cable management issues but that is a nice computer. The reality is like you said, Origin is stuck with components they paid a lot more for and probably will end up eating the loss. Corsair just reported a substantial loss for the 2nd quarter of 2022 and I suspect it is related to these types of issues. I am also a Corsair/MSI fanboy so I can see why they acquired Origin, and I expect changes are coming. Good video Greg!

It makes sense that they paid too much for the GPUs.. but on the other hand, I thought (bigger) OEMs were still able to get them at (or close to) MSRP even during the GPUcolypse? Back then you could buy some prebuilt systems and resell the GPU alone to make most of the money back. Buying in bulk usually means they get a discount on the part cost side too.
It's difficult to get rid of that frugal mindset if you grew up that way. I've had to tell myself a few times when I really splurged.. "You want this.. it costs more than it should but you want this and you deserve it." (That's what I did when I ordered my RTX 3060 TI last week.. lol). This PC is for somebody that wants a really well built impressive looking gaming PC but won't or can't build it themselves, AND they have deep pockets. I mean... who was buying up these cards when they were 2 grand?

That's not it. Do you really think that these SI's are paying consumer pricing for their components? Corsair is taking advantage of the shortage situation and also trying to generate profits from after spending money and buying these companies, hiring a larger staff, paying back their investors, and having a much bigger overhead.

I purchased a Chronos last year (multi component shortage period). The cable management is indeed impressive. Also, JTC made a compliment regarding Origin's cable management recently (about a month ago "This PC is a work of art").
As for the price premium... Yeah... It's difficult to swallow for anyone who has a passion/ability to build their own PC, and I also feel it's steep. Nonetheless, to be fair, most boutique assemblers -- I don't want to name drop -- have similarly high markups.

When I do a PC build, my charges include 10% of the total cost of the parts of the build (minimum $50), plus $20 an hour. If RGB is included, it's 15% total cost of the build. For example, if someone wanted a $1500 machine made of unicorn vomit, I'd get $225 plus another... probably $60ish after everything is said and done (setup, windows install, etc included).
If OriginPC did the same thing, and then tacked on a top tier 3-year warranty for the extra $500 (assuming they used my own build charge criteria of 15%), it'd make a LOT more sense. But only a 1-year warranty? Heck, the warranties of all individual parts listed there are longer than that!
So I really don't know where they're getting the extra $1000 build charge from. I know OriginPC are the original Alienware crew from back in the day. There's that I suppose. :P

I am looking into building a pc but, I can't afford to buy a replacement part if I screw up. Pre-built would probably be a safer bet for me. Might cost a little bit more but, it will work properly. I also don't have friends or family who are good enough to build a pc. So far buying all the parts is about $3,700. Building a pc can be rewarding if you are able to afford a mess up. If I had/knew someone who was able to build my pc without worrying about damaging parts I would easily say I agree with building your own.

I think that hard line watercooled is the point that I would ask for a boutique outfit to make such a gaming machine. It's just difficult for an enthusiast who's into this kind of performance PC to not seriously consider DIY. Although I do admit that a pre-assembled PC does mean that you don't have to deal with the annoying cable management from installing all those Corsair fans in the rig.

I don't feel comparing custom prebuilts and DIY builds are a valid comparison for the target audience of these prebuilts. What you don't take into account is the value some people associate with warranty and customer support on a completely integrated system. They aren't targeting people like us that love to build. They are targeting people who have no interest in building, have more money then spare time on their hands. I feel the more valid comparison is other system integrators and the same price point. We all know the markup is going to be astronomical from DIY so I don't feel particularly informed at the end of this review if I were in the market for a high end prebuilt.

Amazon (US) still has 3080 RTX Ti at around $2000 so that could explain the price of the PC.
    MSI version is $1700,
    EVGA version 1800,
    Nvidia version $1900...
Gigabyte version $1900.....so where's the price drop you're talking about?
