@@NickDowner forgot ,about the transfer case, just replace it, they are many companies that carry stock replacement with a warranty, like American power train ,but atlas is my go to company, but they are expensive

Haha 😅 if you need anything done on your Jeep bring it on over! I don't know what I'm doing but we can just watch some UA-cam how tos :)

The body of the transfer case is actually nodular Iron and NOT aluminum. I'd try to see if you cannot find a welder to weld it up. If not a used dana 300 which is what you have is $600 + used. And that's with some major searching. It'll have to be gutted and preheated and welded with nickle rod and set in a oven to slowly cool down. Huge project. So keep that in mind.

Great info, thank you! I think I'll probably end up buying a new one.. but I may just buy a case to swap stuff over. We'll see! Thanks for watching!

Springs over axle with stock cj springs and 35s and no anti wrap bar ouch no wonder the driveshaft twisted off but look on the bright side the 2 piece shaft/hub assembly should fail before the paper thin axle tubes twist and rotate in the housing. Dana 44s out of intermediate cj5s make great swaps

    • @NickDowner
      @NickDowner  2 роки тому

Thanks for the info Dan! I appreciate it. I hadn't heard of an anti wrap bar before. Super interesting. Do most people make them themselves? Or are there any good brands out there? Thanks!

Nice job. I use grease when removing the pilot bearing. Pack it with grease and pound it like you did. The hydraulic pressure pushes it right out. I ordered my rebuild kits for my T176 and dana 300 from Novak and just getting started tearing mine down.

    • @NickDowner

Thank you! Grease is a great idea. I'm glad I Googled it because I never would have figured out how to get it out haha thanks for watching!

@@NickDowner I was thinking afterwards. Your Dana 300 definitely had some beating done to it. The pan on the bottom was dented pretty good as well as the cracks you found. You can easily find replacement case pieces. Check out Novak Conversions. I ordered my parts to rebuild mine from them. I also ordered a twin stick kit to convert my 300 to twin stick.

Good job buddy, Im working on a 1974 cj5 here, tougher to get parts here in Canada land but not impossible. Keep up the good work and thank you.
Be careful with your spring perch location and rear pinion angle.

Another great video! Start getting your parts from autozone and you will have less waiting around. Be careful going under your rig with just jack stands…they can fail.

Thanks Robert! Great call on AutoZone for parts. I should start checking there before ordering online..... And I'll make sure to get a floor jack under there too :)

To many problems with spring over on a cj5 to deal with, steering geometry, drive line angles the list goes on and on.

Also remember you need to use a topcoat of another paint over the por per the instructions from por... The sem paint will work so will any other cheapo rattle can paint.

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of that. I bet I could get one cheap. I wonder how hard it is to swap over the guts into a new case and if I need a press...

You need to get new u-bolts. It's not a good idea to reuse them. They stretch, when torqued, and may eventually snap, leaving the axle laying in the road, and you in the hospital.

Thanks for the tip! I actually ordered new ones that are sitting here after trying to install the ones in the video.... I just need to grab some torque settings and get them installed. Thanks for watching!
