First Try with JSB Hades .177 on Rats and Pigeons with HW100 and Pard NV 29/05/20

  • Been waiting for these to come out for months, my sub 12ft/lb HW100 loves the 10.34gr JSB Exact Heavies and since the new Hades use them as the parent pellet I had high hopes for them for ratting. The first tin arrived during lockdown and a quick zero at 20 yards produced some very tight groups but I had to wait until the 29th to try them on rats for real - very impressed so far and finally a cheap replacement for the excellent JSB Polymags! People say they don't work at sub 12ft/lb but hey, I don't hunt bars of soap, or blocks of jelly, turn the sound up and listen to the impact and see the shot reaction for yourself! If you want to pick more of the rats you shoot, which is more important for me in the summer as you can't be leaving them laying around stinking the yards out, then these are just the job!

Nice video for sure!! Excellent pesting there! Yes, those Hades in 1.77 seem to do a great job, especially for that type of pesting control :-)
I'm not that lucky, my quarry is at 35 yards at the minimum, and 95 yards at maximum range. I also use a 1.77 air rifle. Only mine is set at 14-15fpe making those longer shots a bit easier. When in the field in California shooting huge jackrabbits, with hunting buddies, they tend to look at me kinda strange when I use a low powered air rifle, as there really isn't no power limit there... but at the end of the day they see it's pretty flawless up to 95 yards :-)
So when I tried using the hades at 50 yards they opened up to 1" inch & 1/2, but the regular heavies from JSB @ 10.34 gr are my rifles favorite, I can get 1/2" inch on days with no wind!
Something oddly satisfying about using a low powered PCP in 1.77 caliber :-)

    Hi mate, nice shooting!
Do you find the pellets pass right through your quarry or stop inside?
I've heard .177 can over penetrate so I was thinking the hades might solve that, but wanted to see them in action before buying.
Those rats were dead before they knew it so they certainly seem to work!
I've been using a .22 for ratting but just treated myself to a sweet tuned hw97k in .177 for some longer range work and am hoping it will totally replace the .22 so I can sell it

They still pass through most of the time I reckon but must lose loads of energy, I would never take a shot at the rats in the tyre pile with anything but these Hades or Polymags, if you shot them with normal heavies the pellet would come straight back at you!

@@GAZ5570 haha, yeah that's what worried me- would be an awful way to lose an eye!
Definitely going to try the hades out, my .22 with 16grain pellets hits like a cannonball and doesnt pass through heads, but they still kick more than the ones you've shot a lot of the time. Just as dead either way but I dont enjoy having to rummage in a hedge to pick up a dead rat after I've shot it so it's nice when they drop on the spot 😂

very nice mate, well it looks like they certainly do the job, how did you find them compared to regular domed pellets ?? do you think with a sub 12ftld rifle they opened up on impact < ? Cheers and thanks great video, top notch shooting,

Been using them. In. 22....seem pretty good...... 177..hav.nt seen any difference. Against other types... Both accurate up to 40 yards in a few rilfes of mine....

I don't worry too much about expansion - it's an airgun! You have to think of it more like shooting with a bow and arrow than with a bullet, no hydrostatic or hydraulic shock, no expansion or fragmentation to speak of. Accuracy and shot placement is key! But some pellets do offer better energy transfer than others and in stuff like rats or squirrels that can exhibit a lot of dis-inhibition after a well placed head shot, leading to you losing carcasses in messy farmyards or thick undergrowth it makes a difference. Accuracy is number one, but rats definitely bounce around more with say JSB 8.44gr or QYS, and less with JSB 10.34gr, a lot less with the Hades and if your gun will shoot them Polymags are awesome but expensive in my experience. They do start to deform a bit in my FAC Rapid in .25 but they are a big pellet going fast! If they group well in your rifle they are well worth a go, if you want expansion you can blow rats up with an HMR easy enough lol!

Good job on the video. Some guys think it is necessary the continually talk non stop. They like to hear themselves talk apparently, I just turn off the sound on those guys.
