Tymco 600 Series Street Sweeper in Santa Monica

- A few years ago one of the side loader drivers I knew got promoted up to sweeper operator. I thought this was especially cool since I had never really filmed any sweepers aside from the LA Marathon and I wasn't too familiar with them in the first place. Seen in the video for the most part is one of their newer sweepers but one of their older ones is seen briefly too. After getting pretty familiar with these vacuum/regenerative air sweepers I have to say they are far more effective than the mechanical sweepers that LA uses. Filming these was quite interesting and I wouldn't mind doing it again in the future.

That sweeper sounds like its full they make that high pitch sound when its packed good inside.
The dude in the video doesn’t need both gutter brooms on the ground , also you have your eyes on the driver side broom you can sling debris on passing cars or pedestrians.that’s the point using a a pressure bleeder to limit the use of the blast orifice . The head is wide enough pick the trash up . Head suppose to do all the work. Having both down for long period would probably cause the hydraulic system to fail. Im sure it can handle it , but not for long use. Especially when it hasn’t been serviced. You left a bunch of stuff behind .

Great video! Hope to see more sweepers. I’d definitely agree that the effectiveness of air sweepers in LA and LA County are the key. Too bad LA and LACoPW use broom bears because they just scatter debris rather than picking it up
Dude...you have no idea what you're talking about....when a broom bear is properly adjusted it cleans as good as a vacuum sweeper, this guy was also leaving alot of debris......
wolfman sicario not disagreeing with you. broom bears are effectively when used properly. the drivers in both county and city public works don’t use them properly. hence rendering it ineffective. also these are regenerative air sweepers not vacuums

wolfman sicario broom bears don’t have a suction system. it brushed debris onto a conveyor belt that drops into the hopper. they’re mechanical sweepers
@@arturovaldez7736 ..I know you're talking in a sense that the regenerative sweeper and a vacuum sweeper are different...both are vacuum sweepers...just the regenerative uses air blasts to blow out dust....the city won't use vacuum because they did a study several years ago and concluded that sucking up the dust and particles helps erode the asphalt by taking ,so they stuck with mechanical sweepers.

The only problem I have with the broom bear is everything! The Tymco, for example could use a stiff brush mated to an articulating arm mounted directly in front of the bumper. In Europe Renault runs a sweeper and a tank truck in tandem to not only pick-up the street but wash it as well. In Mexico. they use a sweeper, a tank truck AND a vacuum truck as well!

Ive done my fair share of Phoenix street sweeper filming, Elgin Broom bears arent as efficient with the main back broom flinging debris onto a belt to the hopper, as these vacuum sweepers are, only problem would be the clogs but still great video also filming a decent sized video of a sweeper is much harder than a garbage truck so much respect
they actually have a Wayne sweeper too that's very similar to the Broom Bears but it basically never gets used since it performs so horribly. thanks!
You armchair engineers make me laugh... City of LA did a study where a vacuum sweeper erodes the streets more than a broom sweeper...

This guy is terrible at detail sweeping.
Reason I'm giving this a thumbs down 👇 is because I drive the same truck and u can't pick up rocks nor anything larger than the suction tube. U drove over the palm fronds but didn't pick them up bcuz u can't.
