    Awww this reminded me of waking up in the mornings on my summer holidays in the 90s at my grandparents on Los Coyotes Diagonal 💘🥲 The machine did scare me! 🤣

    I'm from that area of LB and I usually panic when I hear that sound because I feel I might have forgotten to move my car... either way I love the distinct sound of these Elgin sweepers and this video is oddly satisfying.

      I'll admit that distinct sound this thing makes definitely has cause me some serious panic moments within myself over the years too. I suspect what makes it such a satisfying thing to watch is that "order to chaos" thing only a street sweeper can bring.

      That probably is it!

    The best video showing pelican performance 👌😍

      I really wanted to make sure there was a good video showing how well these things work in VERY tight quarters, and how well the suck up junk hauling butt down a street. Glad you found this video!

    One thing that has always bugged me about street sweepers is how ineffective they actually are - especially when the operator drives too fast through sections of dense leaves or litter. Often times pieces of trash will be missed which kind of minimizes the whole point of the sweeper being sent out in the first place. But of course some leaves here and there in a residential area isn't a big deal. Its the city of LA Broom Bears that haul ass through heavily littered areas which tick me off the most.

      I do think sweeper drivers should slow down a bit, so the truck can actually pick up stuff. This thing left all kinds of junk behind, as did the Tymco sweepers I used to watch in Cypress.

      the operator didn't want you to film

    • @shadofax96
      @shadofax96  6 років тому

      Perhaps, but the driver and I had built a rapport over the course of a few weeks, so she didn't mind me getting videos of the truck since she knew that these things were being phased out.

      I agree, Driver was moving way to fast. Ones around me, they are limited to 5 MPH while doing the sweeping. THis guy seems to be doing like 15+ mph

      I operate a Elgin pelican and its not good at picking up large amounts of leaves. The Elgin whirlwind is a better choice it a vacuum type sweeper

    If you need an all - around sweeper with incredible digging power, the Elgin Pelican is the perfect solution. This legendary machine combines maneuverability, economy, serviceability and single lane dumping. The Pelican provides exceptional digging power in heavy compacted dirt, as well as effective pickup of light or bulky debris. The Pelican is based on a design that's been continually improved since 1914. Innovations, such as the no jam conveyor and a patented sprung guide wheel have made it the worlds best selling three wheel broom sweeper.

      The only down side I could see with these things was the extensive hydraulic connections with the city said were prone to leaking. Now wether that is due to bad maintenance, or just nature of the beast, who knows for sure. I do enjoy watching these things though, great sweepers!

    cool vid... the best time for these things to go out is during a good rain... 100% effectiveness in a good rain

    Although mechanical sweepers are really effective it’s best to have a vacuum sweeper due to the people who think there in a race either one you still have to make two passes on each side

  • @MrWolfSnack

    90% of these sweeper drivers do not know at all how to drive one, they are going way too fast.

    Do you know why Long Beach is getting rid of these? These work better then the tymco Sweeper by me. These our definitely cool trucks, for Anaheim to get some the sweeping routes would get done so much quicker.

    • @shadofax96
      @shadofax96  7 років тому +1

      These are becoming too expensive to operate. They require a roll off to follow them with a bin to dump off in, and they don't hold as much. However the biggest reason is they suffer too many hydraulic leaks and are very high maintenance. Plus I'm sure the Schwartze sweepers they are getting were a "killer deal" the politicians just couldn't say no to.

      Trash Man Daniel How are these better than the big Tymco 600's??? Look at all the fine debris the Pelican is leaving behind, these conventional broom sweepers are obsolete, the Elgin Broom Bear is another pathetic performing sweeper. Vacuum and regenerative air sweepers are better, they pick up all the fine debris and don't spread leaves and crap everywhere instead of picking it up. Sweeping fast doesn't give you good results either as demonstrated here, especially with one of these broom sweepers.

      Nonsense. CA Exempt plate and a slow triangle. Clearly swept the street. And here in California, we have a lot of streets, he probably has to go that fast to get it all done

      As a grown up now I still love to watch those three-wheeled street sweepers. We had one in the early sixties in redwood falls Minnesota. It was a three-wheeled Wayne street sweeper and it was yellow and the kids used to call it the yellow sweeper.

    Yeah slow to 5-8 mph, make two passes on each side of the road and she'll do just fine.
    I live in Fremont, CA and out here the City has 3 2018 Tymco 600 Sweepers and a Schwarze A9000, but it's rarely seen. We used to have a 2003 Elgin CNG F Series Eagle that served from 2003-2015.
