I like to store my ribbon on a spring extension rod (even a regular curtain rod will work). Mount the rod to the wall or the back of a shelf and set the ribbon on end (like books) on the rod. I've been storing my ribbon like this for about 30 years and have yet to find a better way; it's easily accessible and if on the back of a shelf it stays relatively dust-free and away from sunlight. If your shelf doesn't have a backing for the ribbon spools to lean against, you can use the spring rods (2) with one mounted slightly higher and behind the other, to form a shelf-like surface with no bottom.
I also store my ribbon as Marilyn Otte. I had a ribbon storage unit from Joanns and the wooden dowels would slip off. The tension rods work much better.
@@susanpaulson9826 I a going to try that I made a ribbon pole with a heavy rod from Home Depot and a wooden round then I drilled a hole and glued the rod into the pole now I just u wind the ribbon I have s giant one that sits in my corner and few smaller ones I move onto my table when working I definitely have to try your idea thanks
First: you just showed me my new craft room someday! 🤩 Goals! Second - An idea for your tour video: take us along as you design and create different projects using all the “zones” of the room! I love seeing people’s spaces, but I also love to watch how it works in action!
Almost 15 years ago, I took all my ribbon off the spools they came on and wound them instead on little cards, about 3" x 3.25" (the right size to fit into the many square openings in a cheap tool box). I just cut the cards out in an "H" shape, so the the bars at each side hold the ribbon in place. You wind the ribbon around the remaining 1.75" x 2" of card that's the bar on the H. This takes up so very little space. I just use scotch tape to keep the end of the ribbon from unwinding. I have so much ribbon that I had to make a tool box for pink-purples, another for blues and greens and the 3rd for all else. But it has stood the test of time. It is so easy to reach down the right box (I can keep them up high, b/c they're so light-weight), sort quickly thru them to find what will work. I can leave the ribbon in place in the bin, b/c enough shows at the top of each of my little cards. This was actually similar to the way ribbon used to be sold about 100 years ago. I inherited some from my grandma & I'm 69 now. Any of my crafty friends are so jealous of how little space and how useful it is. It did take a weekend of binge watching movies to do it, but it was fun.
I have a lot of crafting items and I’m always looking to organize my area! Loved all your ideas! I’ve been a member of your channel for a long while but rarely comment, but you are so fun to watch! Thank you. Congratulations on your new home and your coming new baby!
My husband made something for me for my ribbon storage. He made a square wood base and attached a dowel rod standing upright to slide the rolls on to. The rolls do not need to be removed, just unroll what you need and pin the end so it doesn’t unroll. I have several of these with different size dowel rods to accommodate different size holes. Great video! Love your ideas!
👍🏻👍🏻Thank you for sharing this video. My crafting supplies need some major organizing. Now that I’ve been making crafting/DIY videos I have really upped the craft supplies I have on hand. It’s messy! This was helpful. Inspiring to see and I think I can do it too. Wish I had a whole room but I’ll make it work. Thanks for the tips and tricks. I hope we can keep in touch and continue to learn from each other. 👍🏻👍🏻
I just love how you organize everything! It seems so simple. I think we look at our mess of everything, and pretty soon we just can see any way forward. I especially love the cord storage boxes. I found them in black on Amazon and bought those bc all my furniture is black.
I take my ribbon off of the spools and trim down poster board to a size that works for you for the smaller ribbon i did 2 x 3 i think then cut out a C shape on either side! It now resembles a flat 🧵 spool! You can write the original information from the ribbon on it, then just start wrapping it! Either cut a slit in the end to hold the loose end or tape it! They can be stored in a nice little space! Thank you for your video! I am always on a look out for better ways to organize!
For ribbon i get a plastic shoe box, put holes in one side of it and add ribbon on a dowel rod and put the ribbon through. So easy and keeps everything organized
I store my ribbon in a big clear jar -- you know the ones folks sometimes use to store flour, etc. in the kitchen. It's so pretty to see them together like that plus the jar is sorta ornamental.
I love your room. Looks beautiful. Mine is a mess I put my card stock scraps in folders that are the same color. Blue scraps in blue folder, yellow in yellow. These I just slide into the hanging office folders that are not as pretty as yours but work fine. Then when I’m making a card and I need something yellow, I just grab that folder and I know what I have.
Did not think I’d learn new things about Design Space, at least not in an organization video but here we are! :) Came for the cord storage and got so many more fantastic ideas! I’m buying my first house next year and will be making myself a pretty and functional craft room. I have mainly plastic drawer towers right now. So many helpful ideas!!
This video was super helpful. I have re watched multiple times. I am trying to organize my small bedroom/craft room/office, and this helped a lot. Thanks!
Great video! I need to reorganize my room. A tip for formatting multiple text boxes is to make the first one how you like it with all the formatting (text, size, alignment, etc). Then duplicate that final box, and just update the text rather than doing the formatting on every new box.
I am super new to all things cricut , but I from my dollar store a small expanded folder where I keep my small scraps..don’t plan on wasting a thing..now I need to,learn how to use other stuff apart from Vinyl HTV
You could use old cardboard boxes that you could cut into 1 or 2 inch widths and wrap the ribbon, twine, yarn, etc around and it can fit into the baskets.
When you’re making the card stock labels a way to streamline the process is to not duplicate until you’ve figured out the settings for the font and then duplicate so you don’t have to adjust the line space for each one.
I put my ribbons in a 6ft length of plastic house roof gutters. I just attached it to the bottom of my pegboard, it’s great it keeps the ribbon clean and you don’t have those dangling ribbon ends.
Great tip for cord organization is the magnetic gift boxes( can find at most craft stores). Decorate however you wish just cut a couple holes in the back of the box.
I recently put my ribbon on tag board spools (waffle flower) . In the past I took them off the spool and rolled it up then put a pin in it or put on a rubber band. It takes much less space❣️
I am just getting into making my office into a craft room/office. I bought a pegboard for the wall for storage. It's a very small room so I have had to utilize the wall space.
I keep just about to everything including fabric in the IKEA bins because cats are jerks and love to lay in baskets lol. I love those labels though. We tried doing adhesive vinyl lettering on the bins but it comes off. HTV is too permanent and sometimes we move stuff around. Right now we have ribbon in those plastic 12x12 bins we used to use for cardstock. It keeps the area more neat but it’s not a very efficient use of space. Dollar Tree sometimes has really cute decorative file folders. We have one of those drop leaf ikea tables and the 6 little drawers in it are the absolute perfect size for vinyl rolls. We got another holder from Joann but haven’t hung it yet. The 20 year old just moved out so we are setting up our cat free craft space in her old room. We just made our own shelves for card stock and built a custom shelf to surround the plastic drawers we have random craft stuff and stamps in. I bought a really cute computer armoire on Facebook marketplace and converted it into a sewing cabinet. I keep my sewing machine on the pull out shelf and put peg boards on the back. It’s actually a perfect system for me. We put it on heavy duty wheels and I can roll it around the room depending on what I’m doing and how hot/cold it is. I know I’m not the only one here that enjoys organizing and sorting crafts almost as much as using them lol. It’s a good way to see what you actually have.
I have enjoyed this organization video. I saw someone use those slap bracelets to put on their roll vinal. She had white & wrote vinyl type on bracelet. I'm sure rub alcohol would remove when you ran out of that type & could be reused. Good luck with your new baby.
I took most of my smaller ribbons (5m or less) off the cardboard spools and wound them around standard wooden clothes pegs, clipping in the ends. It works great for shorter lengths!
I have the original big cricut , and just bought a used Explore II. After a long hiatus from crafting, so I really appreciate your detailed and well explained lesson how to write and cut ! Thank you
I currently have my vinyl scraps in a binder too but have considered that same filing system you have now! It looks so good ! being able to just drop it in there will help me actually out the scraps away 😂
You have inspired me to organize my Cricut supplies a little better. I am fairly new with the Cricut world and learned some things from your label making. Thanks.
This entire video gave me a need for this room. And I'm suddenly considering investing in a joy.... My whole attitude before was "it's smaller yes, but my bigger one does the same thing. Why do I need two" then the fact I haven't used my big one in Months because it's a hassle and I honestly don't have the room or patience to do anything with it is a factor. Lol. I hoping to move soon which will give me more room or a semi dedicated room to craft in which will make me feel and be more craftily productive. I'm already planning the paint for these drawers. Bexause ya girl needs purples and greens 😂
Hi Kayla-your videos and method of teaching is wonderful! Thank you! For ribbon storage, you could use rubber bands around the opened rolls to wrangle all the loose ends. Then use bins in drawers and organize by color. There used to be and maybe still, a snap lid container that has a dowel inside to place the rolls on, but the bins hold more rolls. Love that you labeled the outside of the drawers and bins, I did that on my sewing cabinet, it need more on my other cabinets.
Also I use drawer organizers the long skinny ones with the holes. So the basket ones. For my ribbon. I line up the rolls then have a line of the ends coming out in a row so I can just grab and cut the ribbon and see them all nicely in organized rows. You can fit many skinny pencil drawer storage baskets into a bin for a cube shelve.
Oh I have some of those photo boxes in the carry case that are empty and I wasn't sure what to store in them. Now I know. I am going to see if my hard drives fit in them. Perfect solution since I wasn't sure how I was going to store mine. Thank you for this video, very informative. Merry Christmas.
For ribbons, my personal favorite have been bell jars. -Tall when I only had two, for symmetry… then different heights for interest. They make a beautiful visual when the ribbons are removed from their spools & rolled up (I stick info details on the inside of the “roll” when I think it may be needed in the future - or if I want to know where I can find it again.)
Thank you for these great ideas! I've reorganized my craft room a few times and just can't seem to get it as organized as I would like. I can't wait to try some of your ideas.
Keep your cards, I have had instances where bluetooth connections didn't always work, internet played a part in alot of thise instances and software updates on others, sometimes this somehow messes with the configuration cause connection problems, I'm glad I've kept my cords because I've had to revert back to them a few times. So keeping as backup is always a good idea
Great ideas! I love the cord keeper, definitely need that! And I'm inspired to label my drawers, bins etc now that I've been using them for awhile. One thing I do recommend is trying Starcraft vinyl- its amazing, total game changer. I rarely have to use burnishing tools, usually just use my fingers on most things-- I'm usually doing stencils with their stencil vinyl but the permanent is very easy to transfer and adhere as well. (Not sponsored or affiliated in any way-just love the product!)
I've heard great things about Starcraft vinyl. Do you buy it from 143vinyl? I use Oracal 651 pretty regularly and that is so much easier than the Cricut vinyl, especially the Smart Vinyl! lol
@@KaylasCricutCreations imo, anything is better than cricut vinyl. I just found it incredibly difficult to work with. I typically buy my Starcraft from My Craft Source. They usually have insanely fast shipping and their customer service is great too. 😁
I love the cord keeper. I'm going to have to get that. I use a really cool shoe hanger for all of my ribbon. It has big pockets that go all across the hanging piece. (I also use it in my linen closet for meds) I got it from Amazon! I just found thee hanging file folders at Target. I too have looked ALL over for cute one! There is only the ugly green ones.
I loved this video! I'm currently organizing my craft room and have some of the same items as you so it was great to get an idea of how to utilize everything. Love the font you used for the bin labels. Thank you for always posting great videos and tutorials.
I would either tape down the ends of the ribbon or wrap a rubber band around them to keep the ends from rolling out. I also store ribbon ends in a Mason jar--it's very pretty and colorful.
I have the cube shelves from Target stacked, video on my channel. Right now I need to organize and go through all my bins and put some things in containers because its out of hand. I do have an Etsy shop so I have a lot of stuff LOL I just found your channel because I wanted some inspiration :)
Hi Kayla, I love your craft space ,my fave is you hanging files and trays for them. I have just got an early Christmas pressie from my hubby he bought me a cricut joy so I am going through you tube looking for tutorials to help me get started ,I will watch all your video’s and try and learn how to use the joy from you , TFS huni p.s I have subscribed to your channel and I have already subscribed to Bethany’s channel 🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁
I saw a file box lying around in my house so I repurposed it for vinyl and cardstock scraps as well! It’s not as pretty as yours but I’m still settling into How and where I will want to store my stuff so I didn’t want to spend money until I was more sure. Thanks for all the great ideas on how to store some of the other stuff I was struggling with!
One of the best ways to store ribbon (on the spool) is in a big shoe or boot box on a dowel rod. There are lots of videos on different ways to do it -probably not in a shoe box, but that is what works easily for me because it is something I had from Harley boots, so a good size box that has a hinged lid.
Favorites: cord organization and paper tower w containers. Ribbon/washi tape: I store the ones I use most on accessory rack on my rolling cart. The others are on an old style pants hanger. Works for jewelry wires and chains too. Love ikea Alex drawers. I use one for small items, the other for cricut tools etc., stamps, journaling etc. have my cricut on top. Thanks for tips on paper, labels, scraps etc. going to target tomorrow ☺️
I'm getting ready to move my craft area, to a dedicated room, so I really appreciate all the ideas that you shared. Thank you so much! Your cord drawer is amazing!!
I put my vinyl inside the roll and label the outside with inventory # Cricut & what type it is. No tape, wraps needed. Scraps go inside done & I can have my hands on a roll in seconds, of an inventory of over 200 rolls! Then store them in Fab File boxes that they’re protected and I can tote to anywhere without damaging them! Loving your easy press cart! That’s been my goal my final Easy Presses on their way so the car will be next! It’s very similar to the one I have my scrap rack on.
I bought cheap plastic rain gutters for my ribbon storage. I had my husband mount them to the wall and many sizes fit. I think they were around $5. They came in 6 ft sizes. My husband cut them in half. They can be cut to any size you want. The end caps are more expensive. But you can use card stock or foam board as an end piece.

That's such a good idea!! I might have to give that a try! It would help to see how functional the set up is. :)
That is a wonderful idea!
The cardboard from the middle of paper towels works great for holding vinyl and you can write on it to keep it separated. I cut in in half or thirds.
I don’t like using rubber bands as they crack and disintegrate when they get older and some leave a weird residue once they get old and fail.

You just solved my frustration with writing fonts in DS. I was missing that last step to change the style.
I loved all the ideas, but my favorite was the cords holder (photo case).
Loved it all but the cord organization was my fave!
Man, this gave me so many ideas as I really need to re-do my craft room/office. Thanks for sharing. Amazing!
For me, I love the binder system. I just have a binder for each material. For me, it works great and it is portable.
Your office looks amazing!!!!
i really like the cord thing out of site out of mind for not only me but my toddler as well
Remember those slap bands kids use as a bracelet/watch. You can get plain coloured ones to slap around your vinyl!
I love using baskets and other things I already have and then I can go and get storage that I need
Did not think I’d learn new things about Design Space, at least not in an organization video but here we are! :)

I love how organised everything is! My room is so tiny I don’t have much space but you gave me so many ideas, thank you ☺️
One of these days I will have my own craft room and this was very helpful.
I use a peg board and the small round curtain rods. Put them on keep them reeled in with small straight pins. I also do this with the rolls of vinyl.

For me the cricut label tutorials are very well explained ad so useful. Ty
You can buy white slap bracelets on Amazon. It's great for keeping rolls organized and easy to add a label.
Omg, this is me in my craft room, thank you for sharing
You can use a slim wooden dowel and curtain rod hooks to hang your ribbon!
Excellent ideas! Thank you for sharing!

Such a helpful video! Thank you for showing how you created the labels for the bins as well as the vinyl labels. Xoxo ~Jenifer
I have a Kallax unit to I bought the drawer inserts for it and have my ribbon in that . Makes it a lot easier to manage
I recently put my ribbon on tag board spools (waffle flower) . In the past I took them off the spool and rolled it up then put a pin in it or put on a rubber band. It takes much less space❣️

Love love love it...beautiful space.
I sell posters on eBay and use toilet paper or paper towel tubes to keep them rolled up. Works great and you can label the rolls.
May favorite part of the video was the last part with the photo keeper that was genius!!! Congrats on your baby on the way!!
Thank you so much!!
I ordered the cabinet to store my vinyl and htv in from IKEA today. Thanks as it's just what I need!

Go to the fishing isle and get a fishing line dispenser. With some modification, it would be a nice ribbon dispenser
I just moved as well.

Just subscribed to your channel. I was like I need one of those cable organizers too. Thank you 😊 for some ideas.
I love your cord storage solution..and I would love for you to come do my messy room.. lol thanks for sharing. ;-)

I loved this video! I'm currently organizing my craft room and have some of the same items as you so it was great to get an idea of how to utilize everything. Love the font you used for the bin labels. Thank you for always posting great videos and tutorials.
For the ribbons try a slim curtain rod and slide them in … hang the road on the wall
Loveeeee your office and just how everything turned out with the organization!!
It’s looks amazing!!
Anyone who can organise like you is my idol, I try but misc.my weakness of utter chaos.
Definitely the best organizing video I’ve watched all year. Great work!
Thank you so much!! 🥰
I would either tape down the ends of the ribbon or wrap a rubber band around them to keep the ends from rolling out. I also store ribbon ends in a Mason jar--it's very pretty and colorful.
I love my behind the door shoe organizer for my tools of vinyl
That sounds like a great idea and I bet it saves a lot of space!! :)
Love the file folders for vinyl
Nicely done.
Thank you for doing this video. Your ideas are really good.
Great ideas
Great idea!!!
