I had the extreme pleasure of seeing the young maestro play this concerto at the Barbican Centre in London February 16th. Alexander was so dazzling, the audience erupted into thunderous applause after the end of the first movement! Hard to believe, his playing of this piece now is even more intense and profound. He's only twenty-two: what heights he has yet to reach!
Every time I think, "Yikes, the young man never be able to sustain that tempo," he DOES. It doesn't hurt that he and the conductor seem to have quite an enviable rapport. Nor does it hurt that the orchestra is in its top form, every detail neat and communicative. Ah, the good old days when orchestras could actually play to full houses, go on tours, etc.
I have never studied music or learned to play a musical instrument, but I have discovered that listening and watching Alexander play the piano with or without orchestration has filled a hole in my heart. When I watch his hands move across the keyboard and the expression on his face as well as his body move with the music I imagine that he is expressing something from his soul. It may be my need to believe in the supernatural, but I believe that this young man is a gift from the higher power, to be enjoyed and rejoiced. It is my prayer that he is able to continue this as his “love and profession” and that he continues to find his joy in this endeavor as he continues to bring joy to those of us who take the time to listen.

Same here. I just kept watching his videos recently and his first concert when he was only 11 y. o. Truly inspired me to give justice to each piano piece whether it is simple or complex.
This was his performance at the China Competition of 2019. Correct? I'm still confused why he placed second. His was certainly the best for the entire competition. Well, I acquired an even greater admiration and respect for Alexander Malofeev because of the manner with which he walked away from that with his head up high and continued on with his studies and performances everywhere. He's a true hero in my book...a TRUE hero!
The Love and adoration I feel for the orchestra and Alexander from the beginning, middle and end of this performance stirs such strong emotions within me...that words alone cannot express. Bravo and kudos in abundance to you Alexander Malofeev.
This was just wonderful. Soloist, conductor, and orchestra all wonderful. Malofeev is a very special individual. The clarity and precision is paired with a unique and insightful interpretation. Bravo!
This is absolutely my favorite concerto. I have always thought that the Van Cliburn / Kyrill Kondrashin version was the best, I am blown away by this young talent. And I am equally heartened by the comments written by people with true soul.

There are many heroes here, including the conductor and of course the composer, but none more than the performer in the spotlight, who somehow takes you inside every moment and nuance of this music and keeps you on the edge of your seat, breathless from beginning to end. What a New Year's gift. 🏆
I love the combination of the strict adherence to rhythm coupled with the unbelievable clarity and power, and yet the "dancy" parts really swing, they never feel forced, congrats! I will be rewatching this quite a few times!
BRAVO Alexander Malofeev!!!! Bravo!! Amazing performance!! -- and a wonderful orchestra and conductor Yannick! A brilliant performance by everyone! Bravo!
IMO, This performance is one of the best No 3s on UA-cam. Mr Malofeev truly captures the "rhapsodic" elements of this most wonderful concerto. The clarity of his duo hand passages are just so excellent. Kudos to this wonderful orchestra filled with so many 1st rate musicians, and an inspired and attentive conductor. The 2nd movements theme and variations are captiured with humor and expressiveness. What a pleasure it has been to watch this pianist grow from technical wizard to a consummate MUSICIAN of the highest order. BTW, his performance of the Prokofiev Toccata (an encore from his excellent Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2) is not to be missed.
It seems to matter not which composer Alexander plays the results are always amazing. Perhaps we are seeing the next Rachmaninoff coming to the fore in this the 21st Century. An unbelievable young man filled with talent, love for music and an inspiring pianist!
Bravo!! Beautiful performance by Alexander and also the Philadelphia orchestra! Alexander is a sparkling gem in the world of classical music! He's also very polite!

A phenomenal performance by both soloist and orchestra. Fabulous direction by Yannick Nezet-Seguin. A wonderful recording and first rate video. Bravo to all!!
An utterly astounding performance! Alexander has excelled himself. The rhythmic passages have an intoxicating intensity and evoke the feeling of a maniacal dervish-like dance. Even the slower passages sometimes have a certain sinister seance-like feeling making one hold one's breath and ask 'What's round the corner?' But there is also mischievous humour and fun and Alexander misses not a single nuance. He has the unequalled pianistic skills to achieve the startlingly sudden changes in mood from mysterious mutterings to sweeping melodic lines - and his finger-work is impossibly accurate and controlled. I too will go out on a limb and affirm that this is a performance without equal - partly due, and in no small measure, to the superb orchestral contribution.
I have liked almost all comments here as I share the same feelings and reactions with many on this concert. I am just thankful that Alexander followed his heart to become a pianist at an early age. No wonder he is great now. He has already captured my heart with his performances and will continue on cheering for him. Bravo! Alexander worked well with the conductor and the orchestra.

No, this performance was not part of a competition.
I was equally surprised, but things were not quite as they should have been in that competition.
This is one of my top five favorite piano concertos and this performance swallowed it whole. Holy Mary this is magnificent!
I totally agree!!! Magnificent performance!!
Superhuman, and a super human. He kinda makes me feel proud just to be a member of the same species.
5:45....magic begins...Alexander...You have a Divine gift...your performance is admirable! Hope you are ok and one day you visit Puerto Rico🎶
Bravo!
USA orchestra, Canadian Conductor, Russian Pianist.. Bravo all.
and Chinese audience!
Exelente Bravo,!!
Music really does bring all nations together like nothing else can :)
@@stomppie Yes you are so right...!!!!!!
This is absolutely my favorite concerto. I have always thought that the Van Cliburn / Kyrill Kondrashin version was the best, I am blown away by this young talent.
And I am equally heartened by the comments written by people with true soul.
This has been my favorite concerto for over thirty years. I could not even guess how many times I've heard it. This kid is special. What an outstanding performance.
I recently discovered it through Argerich. Malokeev's performance was phenomenal! I'm quickly discovering that Malokeev has that extra special bit of genius...
What a wonderful Christmas present for us all!

Thanks God to have given to this bad world a genius like Aleksandr Malofeev
Each time Alexander plays this work there are fresh new insights and revelations. This is possibly the most electrifying performance of this work ever.
Until he performs it with Charles Dutoit where more insights and she deep innovations emerge. It's his best Prokofiev #3, hands down.
I almost burst into tears seeing his determination to finish the piece with grace and beauty.
Wonderful hearing the Philadelphia Orchestra sounding as vibrant as ever!
There are many heroes here, including the conductor and of course the composer, but none more than the performer in the spotlight, who somehow takes you inside every moment and nuance of this music and keeps you on the edge of your seat, breathless from beginning to end. What a New Year's gift. 🏆
He played la campanella at 13...
@@lucaslucas191202 Asian Kids Can play That in 9 , but i can't lol
Every time you play, Alexander, is a gift. And this particular gift came wrapped with gold ribbon.
Fantastic !
It seems to matter not which composer Alexander plays the results are always amazing. Perhaps we are seeing the next Rachmaninoff coming to the fore in this the 21st Century. An unbelievable young man filled with talent, love for music and an inspiring pianist!
If he would just start composing.
@@christophershow1398 ..... No. He needs the time to keep playing and performing for us. A composer doesn’t have that kind of time.
Bravo!! Beautiful performance by Alexander and also the Philadelphia orchestra! Alexander is a sparkling gem in the world of classical music! He's also very polite!
Insane, otherworldly talent. He's got an amazing career ahead of him.
Alexander never ceases to amaze!!! Bravo to all!! Wonderful performance!!
Superb...Bravo to all. and Alexander Malofeev will be a a huge star!
How can anyone DISLIKE this genius?
A phenomenal performance by both soloist and orchestra. Fabulous direction by Yannick Nezet-Seguin. A wonderful recording and first rate video. Bravo to all!!
Muy bueno, maestro Alexander.
How eloquently you have put this astounding performance into words.I agree with every word!
You said it so well. Thank you for expressing the nuances of this miraculous performance so perfectly.
Amazing pianist! Wonderful orchestra and director. This is a performance to watch over and over again. What a treasure!!
And I do!
