Playing this tremendous concerto at such a young age, and with such a deep expression and stylistic adequacy, is totally stunning, exciting, confounding, staggering...
Laszlo Toth add 39:02! PERFECT tempo set by the superb conductor. The solo instrumentalists are all exquisite. This is one for the ages. 211 people, for some reason, dislike it. Too bad for them. It’s such an honest performance by everyone involved in it. Pure music making. Imagine how Alex is going to grow into this after he falls in love for the first time, or after he has his heart broken. You should be able to play this concerto like he does here, at 17, so you can be even greater at 30. He’s right on track.
For some reason people loved to cough during my aria “Vecchia zimarra” when I played Colline in La bohème. I wish they would have waited for louder parts too!
Unfortunately people are not aware of how acoustics work. They think just because they're on the 16th row, the mics won't pic up the coughing.. Wrong. I talk with my relatives on skype and they can't hear my kids talking in the room but they can clearly listen to the conversation a neighbor couple is having across the street.
Absolutely...and we all from 'downstairs' enjoying Mr Malofeev and (t)his wunderful performance. He will become one of the Greatest and we sincerely do hope so..
Alexander was barely 17 yo when he performed this, which means he was actively pursuing this masterpiece when he was just 16 yo, plus all the other performances of great masterpieces he was already performing at age 14, 15 and 16. It's just amazing to me. What a blessing he is to all of us that are following his wonderful career in music.
Impressive teamwork by our admirable pianist and the orchestra- heart throbbing composition. Alexander, may you have the best of blessings throughout your life .
Frankly saying I am not a classical music lover. My habitat is rock. Unfortunately I heard Alexander in Rach 3. And now I am overwhelmed and lost. It’s other universum. I am drowned, immersed and not being able to return to normal music.
I love music... Modern music makes vibrate, vintage music (20's and 30's) puts me in a good mood, baroque reassures me, but only Rachmaninoff brings me to tears and gives me goosebumps. It transcends something in me. Welcome to a new world, and enjoy the many discoveries and safaris...
@Al Bolk You must listen to Alexander's Rach 2 also. Incredible! And if you listen to his Prokofiev Concerto No. 3, you'll be blown away. Be ready though, it's unique to say the least, mixed with amazing beauty.
Some of my favorite classical pieces are not the most famous. Let me know if you’re interested and I can share them. I’m a classically trained pianist myself.
In twenty years of listening, learning, and understanding this piece, I didn't think I would ever find a performance that would replace that "I love the first version I heard" feeling. Maybe until now. This was a total slaughterfest, in the best way. . . He hit notes I didn't even know were there. . .
I have to say I understand what you mean, this performance is frankly perfect better than Yuja Wang even. But it will never take the same place in my heart as Martha Argerich’s version has, that version of the piece I is the one fell in love with.
@@thibomeurkens2296 you are so right. No performance can equal the one played by Martha Argerich. No living pianists are even close to Martha's performance of this concerto.
I absolutely love watching his facial expressions, you can tell that he genuinely loves the piano and music. I was going to comment something else but I can’t figure out how to word it...
There are so many great pianists - more than ever before maybe, but this young man is something different - he is that once in a generation gift from the universe. Every time I hear him play I am glad to be alive to hear something so profound. And this youth orchestra is phenomenal.
This young man, Alexander Malofeev, understands Rachmaninoff's passion so well, so deeply, he inspires the entire orchestra to excellence. Congratulations to each of you.
0n the englich / french proofreading, noticed that my comment about the young pianist Alexander Malofeev did not exàctly çorrespond to my intention of writingon.one or the other point.Wich modifies the meaning of it.i'm sorry .thank you
Disagree. Yes, Malofeev is outstanding! But, a couple of years ago at the Van Cliburn, that kid from China (Yunchan Lim) also did an unbelievable Rach 3 at barely 18 years old… I’d be interested to know if you think that only Russians have enough passion to play this music well after listening to him.
This brings tears to my eyes -- if only the world could concentrate on creating and appreciating such incredible beauty, talent, and effort. We would be so much better off.
Dear Paula Forrest, I had the same feelings like you and was glad that such concerts and similar actions are still possible in this vanishing world of unrest, warfare, revolutionary developments and the like! Let me assure you, that in this age, your vision will remain unfulfilled, but to the contrary, this world will end in dispair and craze because man (and weman) in the majority have no interest in real peace and love amongst them! I am very unhappy to express this, but as a christian (thru HIS grace) for more than 30 years who reads the WORD of GOD regularly, it will come true only in the coming age after MY LORD JESUS has brought an end to this world and will afterwards erect THE KINGDOM OF GOD where then PEACE from THE LORD GOD will reign and there will be a NEW WORLD which is also called "THE MILLENIUM"! Will you participate in HIS KINGDOM here on this earth? I will but only by HIS grace and salvation which I have accepted some 35 years ago and now serve HIM and await HIM daily with great joy and happiness in the midth of all this rising chaos worldwide, especiallly the western hemisphere! Therefore: "Search for JESUS and HIS LIGHT, everything else is in vain!"
@Irredeemable Deplorable Covfefe MAGA Deplorable is the right name, if I get your drift. There are many more dangerous associations America has while they take over our country without a whimper.
I listen to Alexander everyday. After listening I want to do my very best the whole day. Hard to put into words. Every emotion, every nuance, explodes off the keyboard. He’s a national treasure!
My family and I are thinking of you and praying for you in this emotionally trying time for you. We can only imagine what this is like for you right now and wish you all the best.
In these months of sickness, death and distancing, Mr. Malofeev, the orchestra, conductor and the MUSIC can reach out and make contact with every one of us. I'm a teacher, a getting-old teacher, and whenever I see a young person accomplish something extraordinary, like Hanyu on the ice, Biles on the balance beam, David Hogg and others speaking on TV after the shootings at their school, I am emotionally overwhelmed. Had I been in the concert hall for this performance, I would have been sobbing for joy at the end for fifteen minutes and everyone who saw me out on the street in front of the hall would have thought I was nuts. I'm very good at what I do, which has nothing to do with music, but it's been, so far, a 47-year career I can be proud of, not one particular moment. The only time I ever felt like I accomplished something in an inspired moment was when I sang Orff's _Carmina Burana_ in the last concert I took part in with my high school glee club. By any standard it was a very good performance. Our conductor always exploded at any comment like, "It was very good for a high school glee club." It was either good or mediocre or bad, regardless of who was performing. The dress rehearsal had been awful, but that night we somehow all became part of the music. Our audience went wild as I had never seen it do before when the immense sound of the last note was replaced by silence. It sounded like we had just won a basketball game with a 3-point buzzer-beater as time ran out. It was almost too much heart-pounding emotion for a shy 17-year old. I cannot imagine creating such intensity as Mr. Malofeev does and inspiring an audience to that kind of emotional peak over and over again by the age of 17. Bravo to him for his unique talent and hard work that enable him to do so and enrich us all, even at a distance.
Yeah, David Hogg is a moron and an opportunist! He wasn't even at the High School during the shooting. Unfortunate that you had to bring politics in to this Amazing Performance by probably the Greatest Pianist I've heard in my 57 years on this earth! Alexander is perfection on earth!! I am overwhelmed!!
Rachmaninov used to say that Horowitz was the greatest exponent of this work and that he played it better than the composer himself. But Rachmaninov never heard Alexander Malofeev!!!. I listened to Alexander play and was left awestruck. So, just for the record I went back and listened to a recording of Horowitz. Horowitz is wonderful and you wonder if ANYTHING could be better, he is absolutely breath taking!. Alexander actually stops you breathing just in case you may miss some of the beauty and sensuality of this performance. His interpretation is superb and befits a maestro of greater years than his tender 17 when he played here.. it really is very very beautiful and emotional. Looking forward to watching this talent develop
First time I ever heard this kid. I took 10 years of private piano. I am an amateur compared to this piano genius. I found myself intertwined into his every movement, an emotional experience to watch and listen. I wanted to shout, scream and cry all at the same time! PHENOMENAL!!!
As a Rachmaninov fanatic, I have probably listened to well over a 100 performances of both the Concerto No.2 and No.3 by performers of varied nationalities and ethnicities. Before commenting on Master Malofeev's performance, I have to say that I am incredibly impressed with the performance of the orchestra. Mr. Botinis is a superb conductor, and the orchestral accompaniment stands in stark comparison to most adult orchestras since this is a Youth Symphony. In their own right, they delivered a world class performance in this presentation of one of the most difficult works in the entire piano concerto repertoire. Seventeen.......seventeen years old!!!!! Before today, the only other performance given by a teenager I'd heard was from Stephen Bennett, and his interpretation does not hold a candle to what I just heard. Most people listening to this performance have probably never heard of or watched Jorge Bolet's Masterclass on the Rach 3, where he advises a group of six up and coming concert pianists on the intricacies and nuances buried deep in the score of this behemoth of notes. Malofeev exposes a formidable technique for a 17 year old, no doubt a child prodigy in his time, and he must have had some phenomenal training at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow. While he does attack this piece with the youthful exuberance you might expect from a 17 year old, he does not attack it with the reckless abandon the likes of a Yefim Bronfman (circa November 2004), or in a clown performance the likes of Lang Lang (commonly referred to as Bang Bang). I LOVE the way he just let loose with controlled fury at the end of the 2nd movement. That 4-note chord in each hand scale down the keyboard is supposed to be bombastic....and he didn't disappoint. The Meno Mosso C major portion of the 3rd movement is one of the areas I listen to intently in judging performances of this work. A lot of pianists will perform that section at the same dynamic without any rise and fall which is marked in the score. He gave me exactly what I wanted to hear. There are some areas that are a bit rushed that I would have liked to have heard slower, but that's probably to be expected from such a youthful performer. However, there are also some sections where most pianists just blend notes together without any clear distinction, so I was pleased to hear him draw out distinctive points in some of these passages. This performance rivals some of the greats. Malofeev has all the makings of the next Horowitz or Volodos....and this is a performance I will definitely be listening to over and over again in the future to come.
Do you think it will be possible to get the CD of this performance? You are so right in your appraisal of both pianist and orchestra. It is an exquisite recital.
Malofeev has all the makings of the next... [actually] >> Sviatoslav Richter. Probably, SR with Sergei Rachmaninoff - the two greatest pianists of the 20th century.
Have you ever listened Zoltan Kocsis? I Listened over thousand times Rachmaninoff 4 piano concerto. But there is no one like Zoltan Kocsis. HE IS rebirth of Rachmaninoff. Alexander is good but he needs to play more.
Very much agree with what you said about the pianist and the orchestra. I personally like Martha Argerich's rach 3 best. (She was quite young when she played it, too.) I find that many pianists try to copy her playing and make unnecessary/bad changes to her interpretation. Alex was one of the very few who played it quite differently than Argerich, but with almost rivaling levels of elegance and excellence. He is certainly a true prodigy of our time.
Those of us who live in Moscow are so blessed that we can go to his concerts almost every month! This Sunday there was another mind-blowing concert when Alexander performed the 1st Tchaikovsky piano concerto, and that was a pure joy! I watched this video so many times. Our family attended this concert in December 2018, just a few days before the New Year, and it was just as amazing as it sounds on a record. Thank God, I can watch it over and over again and to refresh the memories. He has grown a lot as a musician during this past year. He is even more brilliant than a year ago. I can't believe anyone could be so mature and talanted in such a young age. Looking forward to Dec 30 (the concert with Mikhail Pletnev as a conductor) and especially Alexander's January concert where he will perform the 3rd Rachmaninoff again. I can't wait to compare the new performance with this outstanding 2018 concert.
You are so fortunate I feel quite upset that this superextraordinary genius has not yet visited the UK. He is , even NOW, one of the greatest exponents of the piano
Unimaginably Brilliant!!…You have a Wonderful Career carved out for your entire life. The whole classical world will want to hear you play. God Speed and Bless You.
I had to translate it to appreciate the comment from a Russian to better understand how exceptional this interpretation by Alexander Malofeev is. Thanks for commenting on this. @vladparshukov9389 1 year ago For me, Rachmaninov is one of the greatest composers, whose music evokes incredible emotions in me, music that gives me goosebumps when performed. A great pianist and composer! Until now, my favorite performer of Rachmaninov's music was Nikolai Lugansky. Now, after listening to this concert, I can say without a doubt that this guy has changed my mind. To feel Rachmaninov's music like that, in my young years, is genius! Impeccable technique, sound quality... I am shocked! I am also 21 years old, like him now, also a pianist, and I understand how incredibly talented Alexander is, simply a gift from above, incredible performance! Many thanks to Alexander and the orchestra for the delightful performance of this concert. I received incredible pleasure listening to this piece, without taking my eyes off the screen! I am very glad that in our world there are still talented young people who continue to bring great pleasure by playing great music of great composers!
One in a generation. I can't stop listening to this performance. He defies logic, how is it possible that a child of this age could be this accomplished and have such musical depth?!? And he's playing a Yamaha, not a Steinway. Absolutely drop dead stunning performance.
The Russians love their musicians and show it to the point of near exhaustion--truly it has to make these young people feel like they're on top of the world and that all the hours of practice have paid off for themselves and their devoted audiences. It warms my heart to see that kind of affection for the performing arts in general. As for Alexander Malofeev, what can I possibly say about this great talent that hasn't been said already. Truly, a gift from the gods!!
Such an absolutely masterful performance by Alexander, no less, at just 17 years old! Also to be lauded are the orchestra members-how is this a YOUTH orchestra? My goodness! The conductor was also fabulous. It's been a complete privilege to watch Alexander here on UA-cam for the last few years. I cannot wait until I can hear him perform live!
This is the best version. I spent about 19 hours looking through roughly 28 versions of the Rach 3 all day today while working (artwork; I don't sleep much). The version with Rachmaninoff himself playing was excellent (obviously, since it's Rachmaninoff), but the sound quality aged terribly, making this the best. The tempos are correct, the beginning (most important part to get right, imo) is perfectly executed (not too soft or loud), and there isn't overt emotional lag. This kid is the best at playing this piece. The best.
this version might not have been in your 28, as it is not so famous - but I would really recommend Bernd Glemser & NSO Ireland (uploaded by aaron8895). It is a huge interpretation of the concerto, and the one which I keep returning to
When I stumbled upon this performance of the Rachmaninoff 3rd, I wasn't expecting much beyond technique. How wrong can one be? It was immediately clear that I was witnessing an utterly stunning phenomenon. Not only does the then 17 year old Alexander Malofeev show how it should be done, it is with supreme musicianship, confidence and maturity. The orchestra too is quite superb. It was only five weeks ago that I discovered this wonderful video; since which I've listened to it at least twenty times, and I still get the chills every time I do. I will watch the progress of this astounding young pianist with great interest, but something tells me that he may well end up as the most revered of all. A simple thank-you seems so inadequate, but to Alexander, the superb orchestra, the conductor and UA-cam.....thank you all. The audience reaction says it all, better than I.
Alexander is always so kind to want to show off the conductor at the end of the performance. So polite! Amazing performance by all, orchestra, conductor and soloist!
I am in tears throughout. What a devastatingly beautiful work, in the hands of a very great young pianist. And such a wonderful Russian youth orchestra under a great conductor, Dimitris Botinis.
I doubt most people can differentiate emotions in music other than happy or sad. I noticed they don't know about concepts in music like melancholy, hope, regret, intrigue, resolve etc. Therefore most people that are depressed would probably just think this is "sad" 😂
@@Leonhart_93 You may well be right, Leonhart. As I said in an earlier comment, one has this feeling that the composer is 'meeting me' and 'understanding me'. I think it is this sense of being listened to, of empathy, of an entering into my experience that is so uplifting whether from a low place or a high.
yes my friends, He and the orchestra are very gorgeous, splendid execution, the only little thing not at level is the Yamaha instrument, the piano i mean, I've heard him performing on the Steinway & Sons and the result comes at superior level, as I'm concerned obviously...
There is something magical to this performance. Even though having heard this concert now for several hundred times it still is as beautiful as the first time. Very near perfection.
I have watched about twenty Rach 3 Videos now, and for me- this one is perfection. Because there is such a unison between soloist, conductor, orchestra tutti and orchestra soloists. And everyone is so beautiful, and the recording quality is excellent. All my senses are satisfied, that is rare ❤️
After this, I can no longer listen to this masterpiece performed by any pianist other than Alexander Malofeev. For the rest of my life, Mr Malofeev's "Rach 3" will be the definitive interpretation.
And that is his greatest wish according the interview on YT.He'll get there....he is at least ,IMO ,halfway there already.A true ser ant of the music....no ego.
This particular Concerto was never one of my favorites....Until I heard Alexander Malofeev's performance of it. I love the venerability he portrays as well his excitement, it is well structured where it needs to be and loose in the right places. It makes me wish I didn't drop out of my music degree.
Incredible performance. Totally amazing. The composer would have loved this. The Ossia cadenza is perfect. There is something divine in this young pianist. The far best interpretation of this maybe the most beautiful piano concerto ever composed.
He plays on the edge. The urge is so strong verging the reckless, yet he never crashes and burns. Wow. I come from the world of opera and there singers who performed the same way, of course Callas, Del Monaco, Rysanek to name a few - I heard them all - and this young phenomenon has me holding my breath with excitement and awe through his journey through Rachmaninov’s passionate music. His depth is impressive too. Treasure this precious young man. Wow!
Merci Mr Maloveef.
I agree! He’s way out there on the edge! But he holds his own and will never crash! Some of that Rach 3 is like wildfire and is bordering on recklessness and Alexander just flies through it!
Insane that most of the kids on instagram at his age would rather only spend time posting pictures of them self on instagram and snapchat instead of learning to play music like this.
CÉREBRO INEGAVELMENTE SUPERIOR, É PERCEPTIVEL E NOTORIAMENTE HIPER, ULTRA, SUPER, SUPER, SUPER, SUPER SENSÍVEL !!! PARABÉNS, ALEXANDER MALOFEEV !!! POR ESTA CONQUISTA ETERNA !!!... E, IGUALMENTE, POR SUA REFINADÍSSIMA PROCEDÊNCIA ESPIRITUAL !!! FERNANDO DIAS BORGES, em 06/05/2.023.
11:11 sat in total suspense during the entire Ossia Cadenza!! Then I cried in excitement😂 Oh. My. God!! He is the best pianist I’ve ever heard. Passion, total connection to the music, to the piano, focused, sensitive, strong, he is unbelievable. I think even Rachmaninoff would tremble during that Cadenza!! You are perfection Alexander👏
Look at 12:04. Here, he accidentally brings in a part that actually belongs to the end of the third movement (cf. 38:26). After two seconds he realizes his mishap and reverts back to the actual cadenza. Even ignoring that I would not equal his (or anybody's) performance of this cadenza to perfection. In his case I think he is overdoing his rubato. So far, I like Yefim Bronfman's version most.
@@alexanderkohler6439 I actually wonder if he did that on purpose, they way it blends in with the rest of cadenza seems too natural to have been a mistake. Maybe he decided to alter it a little bit for the attentive listeners that would catch it and make the connection. Not sure, just a guess.
@@alexanderkohler6439 This kid was fuckin 17 years old. I don´t know, how or what Yefim Bronfman was capable to manage, at this age. This is an outstanding performance and I have no doubt, that by the time Alexander has reached Bronfmans age, no one will complain, without making himself ridicolous. Just a hint.
This is the first time I actually cried tears of joy while watching a performance... absolutely incredible. The performance of the orchestra, the conductor and master malofeev is was beyond amazing. I'm a pianist just starting to learn Rachmaninoff pieces (Preludes for now) and I hope I can someday be even close to as virtuosic as he is. You're a role model to many aspiring pianists, Alexander Malofeev.
I'm an avid fan of alexander.he seems to be an angel playing for all of us who appreciate classical music.he is soooo great, wonderful full grown pianist in this century.keep up the good work Alexander,God bless you mightily with the talent he bestowed upon you💖
There are not enough superlatives to describe this performance by both the soloist and the orchestra. Like most folks, I've listened to Rach 3 hundreds of times - and have had the sheet music for fifty years - and I have never experienced such a recording as this. I bawled the entire cadenza in the first movement. Mr. Malofeev, I wish you to take the world by storm with your gift. Thank you for sharing it with us. Bravo, sir. Bravo!
Extraordinary. Having read some of the comments; yes he is young and handsome, but look at his facial expressions and you can see why he is 'extraordinary'. He can play for 40+ minutes without a sheet of music in front because he has the music memorize within his heart. Love this.
20:24 one of the most beautiful moments in all of Rachmaninov’s music. It’s the chaos and sadness of an exile; the music then beautifully transitions to the D flat major key, a key of consolation. Alexander Malofeev expresses this beautifully. He is destined to be one of the greats.
That theme, however, is effing depressing. It starts up in my mind whenever I'm depressed. A pure, dreary, Russian lament, despondent, dropping in pitch and settling the second it starts, like a head resigned, bowing after shaking a fist to the sky was already deemed useless... Depressing, dreary... Pass me the vodka, I love my sadness.
Right from the first notes AM took command of his role in this wonderful concerto. I really like the way he just keeps these complex Russian works rolling; doesn't drag them out of shape. Good orchestral backing. A memorable performance. Thanks to all concerned.
And he’s SO humble and nice, too. What a living doll. Make no mistake, this performance ranks at the very top with all the great pianists of the past. It has a dimension that is intangible, beyond description. He’s simply “gets” this concerto.
ALEXANDER THE GREAT! ... Amazing performance ... Alexander said in an interview that he learned this extraordinarily challenging piece in 4 weeks! A wonderful performance and an excellent orchestra and conductor. Thank goodness we have an excellent video as well from people who really know how to film an orchestra well and enhance our enjoyment of the performance. A classic! ... This is the pianist as hero.
One can see from the expressions on the faces of all these musicians, that they realise that they are part of something greater than themselves, greater than the occasion and that they are in that timeless world where great performances of great works forever shine.
Master Alexander Malofeev, you're unbelievably talented, your outstanding performance made me feel both excited and deeply moved. You're absolutely brilliant... wishing you the very best !!!!!
Oh My God!!!!😲😲😲😲😲 You sound like the original Rachmaninov! At first I couldn't believe it was you playing this masterpiece! Wow! PURE BRILLIANCE! BRAVO! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌💖💫
Happy birthday, Master Sergei Rachmaninoff ! On his birth anniversary no other performance of his amazing Concerto No. 3 could be better than this one. Bravo, Alexander Malofeev, you're EXCEPTIONALLY talented !!!! Congratulations to the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra and to their Conductor, Dimitris Botinis !!!!
Thank you for telling us who was backing Alexander in the Rach 3. The orchestra and the young conductor were tightly in sync with Mr. Malofeev. A love fest!!
OMG Alexander...Interpretation far beyond your years...what talentwhatgenius....it just gets better and better. The emotion! Not only shows on his face...but comes through clearly in his touch on the keyboard...You Alexander are indeed blessed by the Absolute.
Playing this tremendous concerto at such a young age, and with such a deep expression and stylistic adequacy, is totally stunning, exciting, confounding, staggering...
The expression that comes out of this kid is just incredible. Such a mature sound. I’m stunned.
11:30 12:27 13:30 15:00 - 15:30
17:25 27:05 40:10
This boy is not human, absolutely incredible. Congratulations to the all orchestra. AMAZING!
Add to that 13:30. Such fluency and coordination ending the chaotic Cadenza. Breathtaking.

If you really need to cough during a performance at least
i) Cough on beat
ii) Cough in a loud part
Thank you and goodbye
Or between movements ;)
For some reason people loved to cough during my aria “Vecchia zimarra” when I played Colline in La bohème. I wish they would have waited for louder parts too!
Unfortunately people are not aware of how acoustics work. They think just because they're on the 16th row, the mics won't pic up the coughing.. Wrong. I talk with my relatives on skype and they can't hear my kids talking in the room but they can clearly listen to the conversation a neighbor couple is having across the street.
great tips !!!!
NEVER COUGH!
Rachmaninov is smiling from above while enjoying his performance.

Wholeheartedly Agree 😊
Malofeev is a genius, pure and simple.
Tears in my eyes!!!! In the other size of the world!! I am a old man from Brazil. Thank you Mr.Malofeev, thank you!!

Impressive teamwork by our admirable pianist and the orchestra- heart throbbing composition. Alexander, may you have the best of blessings throughout your life .
@Pedro Cesar ... God bless you.
Frankly saying I am not a classical music lover. My habitat is rock. Unfortunately I heard Alexander in Rach 3. And now I am overwhelmed and lost. It’s other universum. I am drowned, immersed and not being able to return to normal music.
Room for all kinds of music in the world
I love music... Modern music makes vibrate, vintage music (20's and 30's) puts me in a good mood, baroque reassures me, but only Rachmaninoff brings me to tears and gives me goosebumps. It transcends something in me. Welcome to a new world, and enjoy the many discoveries and safaris...
So you've finally got INTO the candy store and tasted the samples. You'll never go back. Things will never taste the same.
This was a total slaughterfest, in the best way. . . He hit notes I didn't even know were there. . .
Oh my god your the first person to put it into words about the first version
Daniil trifonov wants to know your location
I have to say I understand what you mean, this performance is frankly perfect better than Yuja Wang even. But it will never take the same place in my heart as Martha Argerich’s version has, that version of the piece I is the one fell in love with.
@@thibomeurkens2296 you are so right. No performance can equal the one played by Martha Argerich. No living pianists are even close to Martha's performance of this concerto.

Look at his face... His mimics....he feels every single note. Massive piece. Piano is sometimes so gently sometimes is wild animal
I absolutely love watching his facial expressions, you can tell that he genuinely loves the piano and music. I was going to comment something else but I can’t figure out how to word it...

This young man, Alexander Malofeev, understands Rachmaninoff's passion so well, so deeply, he inspires the entire orchestra to excellence. Congratulations to each of you.
His music is absolutely stunning. It has such depth especially in the third movement. That’s a true Rachmaninoff player
He couldn’t stop at being a great pianist, he had to be handsome too.

@@WhenAllTheWarmthLeavesUs Being white = handsome? What a load of bs
@PingooCS he said like hes just white tho
The emotions on his face demonstrate that he is so totally in command of the work that he can afford to relax into his own reactions to its beauty.
It runs in his veins.
Can you imagine how Mr.Malofeev’s teachers feel watching him! I’d be standing TALL!
Russian passion: only these guys can perform this stuff well. This young man is brilliant.
AND he can play the piano!!!

You had me until David Hogg.
thanks for sharing how this kid's efforts are so inspiring (and healing).
Very good advise .
Bravo.😊

@Miran Crystals: Alex's God given talent is a present to a world in turmoil. (Holland-eu)
Alexander, God was very, VERY generous to you. This was a joy to behold and to listen.
This video makes me speechless. Playing rach 3 at 17 years old is definitely magnificent and remarkable, say that he’s just like the superman.
Thanks for sharing this information. Will be listening too. b.t.w. this very young orchestra and the conducter are great aswel.

For me, Rachmaninov is one of the greatest composers, whose music evokes incredible emotions in me, music that gives me goosebumps when performed.
Yamaha? I begrudgingly admit it sounded great. But I still prefer Steinway’s bass.
Truly a gift from God!
The best.
I agree with you this is one of the best performances I've heard. I also like the performance of Alexander Gavrilyuk, you may be interested in
Lazar Berman my reference
this version might not have been in your 28, as it is not so famous - but I would really recommend Bernd Glemser & NSO Ireland (uploaded by aaron8895). It is a huge interpretation of the concerto, and the one which I keep returning to
Yefim Bronfman and Denis Matsuev !!
Also like Biron Janis
The audience reaction says it all, better than I.
wow - Duane, you're so right - pal - you said it all
And you said it for me as well.
He was 15 when he recorded the Rach #2 not 17.
@@richardbutler9466 age 15, Rach 2 / age 17, Rach 3. And now at age 19, you name it, he's performed it. Just amazing.
YES! So I am not the only one.....
An angel. Music, beauty, the only reasons to hope in this decadent world
If you are feeling low or despairing, or looking for a source of joy and spiritual release - listen to this!
I genuinely did not think I would be this impressed by "another" Rach 3 interpretation. But I was in for a monstrous surprise
These young people play Rachmaninoffs third piano concert in a way that makes it the benchmark-performance to me. Must have heard it a 1000 times now.
How fortunate, this great performance was well recorded.
Makes all the difference in the world
Agreed..
yes my friends, He and the orchestra are very gorgeous, splendid execution, the only little thing not at level is the Yamaha instrument, the piano i mean, I've heard him performing on the Steinway & Sons and the result comes at superior level, as I'm concerned obviously...
Roberto Malambri I‘m actually surprised how good the Yamaha is, I wouldn‘t have noticed that this isn‘t a Steinway or Bechstein
Yes! It’s always frustrating when the recording is missing parts of the sound. This is unusually good.
There is something magical to this performance. Even though having heard this concert now for several hundred times it still is as beautiful as the first time. Very near perfection.
You are so right. Magical is the word. Actually, there are many more, but that will have to do for now.
Yes, his performance is incredible, and the orchestra is robust, and the acoustics are gorgeous.
@@prototropo He deserved a roaring standing ovation, Period !!!!!
After this, I can no longer listen to this masterpiece performed by any pianist other than Alexander Malofeev.
For the rest of my life, Mr Malofeev's "Rach 3" will be the definitive interpretation.
That's me with Saint Saens' piano concerto n° 2
@@thiagopereira500 I agree. His Saint Saens PC 2 was simply exquisite.
Yunchun Lim… ‘hold my beer’
Malofeev is telling us about other worlds, other universes, that we've never heard about before.
Malofeev might be from one of these other worlds, other universes, himself . I'm very serious about that .
My husband says Alexander is an alien: heaven sent!
Evocative description, bravo!
Phenomenal. With a conductor like Dimitris Botinis you feel safe. Orchestra produces amazing sound.Outstanding musicians and burning passion.Bravo.
I have heard this performance now for at least 60 times; AND IT STILL IS MAGNIFICENT!
So have I - just wonderful !!
Me too!
And it always will be!!
Same here
Don't forget his name! He will be among the greatest Horowitz, Richter, Gilels, Rubinstein, Zimerman, Argerich, Bolet...
And that is his greatest wish according the interview on YT.He'll get there....he is at least ,IMO ,halfway there already.A true ser ant of the music....no ego.
He is...with the greatest.
He looks just like my best friend’s son!!! Unbelievable! I won’t forget him!!
Blechacz, Lugansky, Trifonov for me are also greatest..
J. Debra Grube my youngest son looks a little bit like him too...
I imagine Rachmaninoff is listening with a big smile on his face!
Horowitz was 17 or 18 too, when he performed Rachmaninoff's 3rd, and Sergei really liked it.
This particular Concerto was never one of my favorites....Until I heard Alexander Malofeev's performance of it.
I love the venerability he portrays as well his excitement, it is well structured where it needs to be and loose in the right places. It makes me wish I didn't drop out of my music degree.
This performance will most certainly remain as the gold standard for Rachmaninoff's Concerto #3 for a long time to come; BRAVO 👏👏
Wow!
Thank you Lord for sending
Alexander to us. He is a treasure
Merci Mr Maloveef.
I agree! He’s way out there on the edge! But he holds his own and will never crash! Some of that Rach 3 is like wildfire and is bordering on recklessness and Alexander just flies through it!
Viva Alex!more, more & more power to your career as one of the worlds greatest known pianist !!!
Grazie!
Insane that most of the kids on instagram at his age would rather only spend time posting pictures of them self on instagram and snapchat instead of learning to play music like this.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
At first I was scared for him. Nervous he’d falter. Then I forgot all about that. His stillness, mastery, passion...wow.

Exactly right!!

Can hardly believe someone so young can play this monstrous concerto so beautifully! Just barely 17 yo....amazing!
This is a big concerto, for a big pianist. And this young man is a big pianist! Bravo 😍😎
And he swallowed it whole!!!
Love this.
Actually the beauty of his music is far beyond his handsome outlook. Just breathtaking and astonishing!
Brilliant!❤🌹
That’s a beautiful thing to say.
This is the most beautiful thing my ears have ever heard
20:24 one of the most beautiful moments in all of Rachmaninov’s music. It’s the chaos and sadness of an exile; the music then beautifully transitions to the D flat major key, a key of consolation. Alexander Malofeev expresses this beautifully. He is destined to be one of the greats.
Jeff Smith what’s the piece called ?
It's the video's title
That theme, however, is effing depressing. It starts up in my mind whenever I'm depressed. A pure, dreary, Russian lament, despondent, dropping in pitch and settling the second it starts, like a head resigned, bowing after shaking a fist to the sky was already deemed useless... Depressing, dreary... Pass me the vodka, I love my sadness.
Boy playing Rah 3 ! OUTSTANDING! Wish you all the best in your love young man.
Right from the first notes AM took command of his role in this wonderful concerto. I really like the way he just keeps these complex Russian works rolling; doesn't drag them out of shape. Good orchestral backing. A memorable performance. Thanks to all concerned.
I am in tears at the utter magnificence of this -- truly miraculous playing of BOTH the awesome pianist AND the awesome orchestra. BRAVISSIMO!!!
I am, too - I ran out of tissues
I weep with joy every time I listen to this performance by the blessed young Malofeev.
I'm still listening and I keep getting more blown away by his playing, it's.... I'm speechless 😢❤❤
One can see from the expressions on the faces of all these musicians, that they realise that they are part of something greater than themselves, greater than the occasion and that they are in that timeless world where great performances of great works forever shine.
His voicing is incredible. I heard notes I have never heard before!
