no wonder people make the mistake though. superchargers are in essence turbochargers. They force feed air into the manifold and are turbine driven. However they use the belt system to spin the turbine rather than using the exhaust like turbos do.
Twin scroll???? Man some people here need some basic engineering instruction........lol. It is not twin screw and it is also not a twin scroll, it has no turbine side which is why a turbo is called a turbo.
Christian Angeles I was about to say haha it looks more like a turbo but I’m not a car guy but I knew there was different superchargers positive displacement is the only I’ve had the joy of installing and using one of those with a blower haha
what heats up the air in a turbo/supercharger is the compression of the air itself, the more you compress it the hotter it gets.. that why intercoolers are good in both!!
Exhaust from the engine have to flow inside of turbo to make the turbines spins. When the turbine spins, the other end of turbo sucks in air. The air (boost) goes into intercooler and back to intake-manifold. Supercharger is belt-driven by the engine. Basically, when the belt spins, the superchargers impeller spins and it sucks in air and makes the boost and then through intercooler and back to intake-manifold. If I explained it wrong correct me. Have a good day.
you still need blow off valves on a supercharger to stop the pressure surge when the butterfly valves close damaging the compressor blades. Turbo's are powered by exhaust flow, superchargers are powered but the engine timing belt. All turbo's look the same (sea shell), but there are different types of superchargers, this one is like a turbo compressor
Turbocharger can apply more pressure easily than a supercharger and it is mostly more efficient, because the Supercharger is belt driven. Although the Turbo has a lag when hitting the gas pedal where the supercharger has immediate response.
Of course there's ecu changes they've just made cuts in the vid. Supercharger kit takes around 10 hours to fit not 8 mins. Also there's 4 different ess tuning SC kits available. Any and all supercharger kits require you to send your ecu to there company to re-program or they'll send you the remap file via email so you can flash it yourself.
That is sweet... was screaming/almost... at the inner cooler, but since it's running of the crank, there's constant boost, with out the drop off from running off the exhaust!! . Massive gains!!
DirtyDan turbos need intercooler not beacuse hot exaust but because compressed air gets warm and warmer air is less dense than colder, hence colder than the itake air, more power to the wheels. Supercharger also compress air and if you want more power you get intercooler. On the turbos, turbine section is wery hot (it can come to 800C), but only 10-15% of this heat is transfered to the intake air.
There is very little room in the engine bay for an exhaust powered turbo and on top of that only one company makes a kit that I know of and that is hpf. You have to send them you car and they take the entire engine out and tune it for you in stuff but the basic kit starts at like 16000 or something like that
stock 252 kw-, 343 hp european version. Never touch a naturally aspirated engine like this one. this M3 e 46 is a masterpiece from bmw. The last real M3. That guy is crazy
i believe all e46 bmw's have a plastic cover beneath the engine.. so that air filter sucks air that gets in from the front bumper/ what gets through the intercooler.
its basically a turbine design blower, what they call a "Centrifugal" supercharger, & yes it does use a blow off valve, & sounds kind of like a turbo, except it is belt driven like a supercharger vs exhaust with a turbo,
correct me if im wrong; this sounds alot like a turbo charger. blow off valve, the blower, inter-cooler, boost levels, etc. the video is labelled supercharger.
Bmw engines are mostly strait 6's and so the super charger wwould most likely not mount on top like most other cars, but a pro charger kit looks like a turbocharger and sounds like one but is still driven by the belt, and not all super chargers need an intercooler, in fact most don't. Unlike turbochargers which require one along with many other components. This is because the supercharger isn't spun by exhaust gases so theirs no need for cooling. Hope those cleared up some questions.
Dirty Dan -Procharger is a brand name ALL compressed air is heated whether its a turbo or a SC, so having an intercooler means denser charge means more power. Most SC do use a FMIC unless they run methanol or water injection to cool the air, some run all.
How it is attached to the engine belt? It's got its own belt but on what does he put the other side of belt? And it sucks air through air filter which is now behind bumper, and what next? I mean, does the air flows then to the radiator and then to the manifold? (I'm not an expert, I'm just asking :) Btw nice video!
Jay Bond Both right xp just depends on what you call an intake xD The manifold is the air intake on the engine itself, the filter is the air intake from the entire system. Anyway, the intercooler is there to cool down the air *after* it was compressed.
Its a super charger, Its a centrifugal supercharger so it compresses the same way as a turbo however its belt driven, since it compresses the same way there needs to be a blow off valve and intercoolers are on both supercharged and turbo cars. Its a vortech supercharger google it.
I want to install turbocharged to my Z3 2.8 Roadster 2000. I can't find a dealer or anyone to install and if you have it. What is the cost. And the video. To install ?
who drives a supercharged m3 through a flood? that's like saying you can never drive a Ferrari down a country lane because you don't have the ground clearance.
Hi,so how do you control the boost on this superchargers,do you need to chage the puly to get to the numbers you want or something else, and also how do you control at what rpm you get the boost?
Autotechengineering, don't the Eaton superchargers achieve much better fuel economy by comparison? Which supercharger would you say is the most efficient? Which one has an efficiency approaching that of a turbocharger?
Ron -Its not a Procharger ,Procharger is a brand name. This is a Vortech, The key lock is already machined into the black pulley.Line it up and slide it on to the keyway..Rewatch it 4.10.
yes it is possible, very rarely seen tho. Mercedes use a type of bypass valve on their compressor range, some also have a electromagnetic clutch just like a ac pump but you cant control it yourself it is controlled by the ECU to reduce emissions at low loads. but you could run a car with a custom ecu running a custom map or even switch able maps.
so if youre gonna have a pulley powered turbo-like compressor (with all the accessories that a turbo requires) why not just put an exhaust powered turbo? great vid btw.
I hav e a question when u slap the supercharger on ther is it okey if it not tuned like if I don't have money to tune it can you use it for bit with out the tune
+TheRealestEver If a part is "over-engineered", it's unlikely to break, even at higher power outputs. But I get what you mean. There's not much room for more power available in these cars before things start breaking.
+TheRealestEver this engine has heat problems if u want more power u have to be very carefiul with coolimg friend works for bmw valves reapir only material for it 4000€
Is it possible to take a Supercharger out of a merc c230k and put it into a clk 55amg. Would anything have to be modified such as the fuel injectors or the air intake manifold? thanks
Could anyone please post the right turbocharger model? Is it the VT2 550 or the VT2 575 or any other model of ESS? Not anything on the engine was replaced? Not even reinforced crankshaft bearings and also thicker gasket between the head cylinder on the block? I would be very thankful if someone who's done it answers this questions. Thank you in advance to everyone.
Josep- A) Its a supercharger (Vortech) not a turbo,B) Injectors and fuel pump was changed /ECU was remapped C) Why would you put a thicker head gasket? Its 10 psi.
+Peter HMan I've only just seen this, yes treating me well I love the car but looking at moving it on for a family friendly car now. it's on carsales now.
Peter HMan do you think the money was worth it? Was it really that noticeable power increase on the street? What made you decide to go with ESS? Cheers
I tend to agree. Even if this car has lost some power over time, these came out standard with no less than 330bhp for the USA models. He's talking hp at the wheels, whp, but I can't see a drive line loss of almost 100hp.
Turbos are way harder to install. You have to tap the engine oil pan, replace the exhaust manifold, lay the oil feed and return lines, all the plumbing for the intercooler (turbos need one, not necessary for a centrifugal supercharger) and tuning is much more difficult. It also costs much more. However, you do have the ability to make more power on exhaust driven turbos.
Just to explain.. mariomaster281 and others.. New Stock BMW M3 has 343 HP, thats 275HP at wheels.. they measured 191kW = 260HP so it's down to 15HP on wheels in comparison to new car. Not bad, M3 have actualy more power (like 350 and 374 for CSL) when new as stated by BMW, and that's not a common thing in today's cars.. (Toyota is known for -15% when new in comparison to paper). So after this modification it has 307kW on wheels so that's 520HP engine? Hard to believe.. but it's possible. PS: Supercharger is not a turbo charger driven by belt. Turbine is driven by gas and as there isn't any in supercharger, we talking here day and night.. Supercharger has compressor driven by belt (or electric motor) and turbocharger has compressor driven by turbine.. get is straight, read wiki. Piiisss
The way my e46 323i is modified i can beat 330i bmws. I remapped it changed the whole exhaust system headers 2 hi flow cats x pipe 2" pipe all the way. Also changed my diff 3.46 ratio. I keep up with r32 golfs.
This is called a centrifugal supercharger for those of you that think it's a turbo
no wonder people make the mistake though. superchargers are in essence turbochargers. They force feed air into the manifold and are turbine driven. However they use the belt system to spin the turbine rather than using the exhaust like turbos do.
Christian Angeles its actually called a twin screw supercharger
+Char lottie That is absolutely not a twin screw supercharger.
Twin scroll???? Man some people here need some basic engineering instruction........lol. It is not twin screw and it is also not a twin scroll, it has no turbine side which is why a turbo is called a turbo.

"We painted the intercooler black to give it that stealth look"
Meanwhile I'm looking at those gaudy rims
don't worry about the wheels m8 the video is about the installation of a super charger
painting it black gives extra 5 HP
It's just a UA-cam, chill hater
If you paint with insulation paint it means less heat from the motor will get to the turbo allowing better cooler air to flow through
hey if you cut a square out of the carpet underneath the throttle peddle, it allows more travel with the pedal and adds around 20hp
Good one
you still need blow off valves on a supercharger to stop the pressure surge when the butterfly valves close damaging the compressor blades. The ECU is sent to ESS USA to tune. However, I believe Spiro fine tuned it to AUS conditions but im not 100% sure on that.
Of course there's ecu changes they've just made cuts in the vid. Supercharger kit takes around 10 hours to fit not 8 mins. Also there's 4 different ess tuning SC kits available. wow they installed the whole kit in 5 min , amazing job guys cheers
They installed the whole kit in one day. The video is 5 min long!
That is sweet... was screaming/almost... at the inner cooler, but since it's running of the crank, there's constant boost, with out the drop off from running off the exhaust!!

That guy is crazy
matteo torrisi Why?
Erh no. Always tweak if you want to. Wimp :)
Baby m3!!!!!
Oh god a fucking purist 🤫
i believe all e46 bmw's have a plastic cover beneath the engine.. so that air filter sucks air that gets in from the front bumper/ what gets through the intercooler.

Only really if you go more then 10psi boost. The M3 Comes stock from factory with weisco forged pistons :)
Yeah pretty much plug and play. Tbh though I'd want a good exhaust system and brake upgrade the e46 m3 brakes arn't very good as standard.
My left ear liked this video.
@vetaln Actually when compared to its handling capabilities, yes it does need more power.
The 256 that u have quoted is at the wheels not the flywheel, BMW quote flywheel bhp of 320, u get power loss through the gearbox and diff.
correct me if im wrong; this sounds alot like a turbo charger. blow off valve, the blower, inter-cooler, boost levels, etc. the video is labelled supercharger.
What preparation work needed for the engine to hold that kind of power
That supercharger is not super pressurized, it works directly with stock e46. any more bar than that requires a huge bit of fuel/ecu work.
Now all you have to do it change those ugly rims to some BBS' and you'll be set.
Shut up please lmfao
Superbad772 lmfao those were the rims installed on the most wanted bmw m3 gtr u know nothin
Andrei Even more reason to change it lmao
Bmw engines are mostly strait 6's and so the super charger wwould most likely not mount on top like most other cars, but a pro charger kit looks like a turbocharger and sounds like one but is still driven by the belt, and not all super chargers need an intercooler, in fact most don't. The intercooler is between the intake and the supercharger right?
filter -> supercharger -> intercooler -> intake
bladegt7 so it goes like intake>>supercharger>>intercooler>>engine.
Jay Bond Both right xp just depends on what you call an intake xD
The manifold is the air intake on the engine itself, the filter is the air intake from the entire system.
Anyway, the intercooler is there to cool down the air *after* it was compressed.
It is a in-line.. So the air comes in on the right side, not in the middle.
Its a super charger, Its a centrifugal supercharger so it compresses the same way as a turbo however its belt driven, since it compresses the same way there needs to be a blow off valve and intercoolers are on both supercharged and turbo cars. Its a vortech supercharger google it.
4:09 no feather key?
i cant understand , they installed the supercharged without remap the ECU or without a fuel pressure regulator ?? thank u
There is a v8 version of the m3 just not in the generation that is shown in the video.
Hey I got a bmw 330ci and I wanna know if it's a good idea to put a twin turbo supercharger on it
the two openings that connects to the intercooler,, where does that lead straight to engine or into the intake then to the engine??
air filter > supercharger > (air gets heated from compressing) > intercooler (gets cooled) > into plenum than motor.
I want to install turbocharged to my Z3 2.8 Roadster 2000. I can't find a dealer or anyone to install and if you have it. What is the cost. And the video. To install ?
Didn't see them install an oil feeder, doesn't this supercharger need an oil feeder line?
Didn't know of a place in aus doing this?! Hope they are still available
yeah you can buy the kit and install it your self the whole package cost about 6000 depending on how many HP you want!
Hey do u happen to have the belt diagram?
That looks a really nice bit of kit
«Goes with car to 30cm flooded road.. BAM! Flooded engine...»
Air intake to low in my opinion...
who drives a supercharged m3 through a flood? that's like saying you can never drive a Ferrari down a country lane because you don't have the ground clearance.
I own a CSL ... you want to talk about water funnels, it has a pretty good one. Driving through standing water is a terrible idea in any car.
Hi,so how do you control the boost on this superchargers,do you need to chage the puly to get to the numbers you want or something else, and also how do you control at what rpm you get the boost?
don't u have to make the pistons stronger too?
Is this plug and play ? No need for any upgraded parts
hi is this the same for a 01 330ci? looks similar.
What boost would you run on a forged engine?
For a track use car ?
Awesome video of bolt on installation. Have any centrifugal superchargers for an e39 538i??
Great vid 👍🏴
a bit of explanation through the process would have been useful
instead of the elevator musak .
Autotechengineering, don't the Eaton superchargers achieve much better fuel economy by comparison? Which supercharger would you say is the most efficient? Which one has an efficiency approaching that of a turbocharger?
Impressive gain for just a bolt on upgrade
Jesus that is a huge improvement
how much would it cost to twin supercharge a bmw 850csi ? and how much time would it take ?
Bruh where is the small metal pin you supposed to put on the pro charger pulley To lock in the shaft?
Ron -Its not a Procharger ,Procharger is a brand name. This is a Vortech, The key lock is already machined into the black pulley.Line it up and slide it on to the keyway..Rewatch it 4.10.
Love these guys.
You missed the woodruf key in the super charger pulley
nope its machined on the pulley @ 410 He lines it up then slides it on. Nearly all system have these pulleys.
its possible to aply a On off "boton" to a supercharger? usim for example an electric clutch pulley? thanks
yes it is possible, very rarely seen tho. is there no inter cooler ?
so if youre gonna have a pulley powered turbo-like compressor (with all the accessories that a turbo requires) why not just put an exhaust powered turbo? great vid btw.
Do you guys ship world wide and does the kit include the spark plugs
Qué precio tendría éste kit montado en España?
with that much power at the wheels this would be an amazing car
I hav e a question when u slap the supercharger on ther is it okey if it not tuned like if I don't have money to tune it can you use it for bit with out the tune
lafamilia truckin crew no really should have a tune to get any noticeable power
so the driver can increase hp?
ive had a few M3 E46's and whp has always been around 280.. 25% loss is quite high.
did you do any ecu tuning? Please Answer Thanks you
No ECU mods?
Nice installation!and a very nice vid well done!
whats the kit worth with and with out supercharger
you just say i wantede to buy all the hardware but no charger?
345 engine hp Wheel hp is a bit lower and theres no turbo or a kompressor remember that 3.0 8000 rpm and 345hp thats amazing
+TheRealestEver If a part is "over-engineered", it's unlikely to break, even at higher power outputs. But I get what you mean. There's not much room for more power available in these cars before things start breaking.

No it wont flow enough air for the 55
I couldnt decide between the e46 and the e60 m cars so i bought both 👍
Just save up your money on e46 new bmw is less reliable even how beautiful they looked
275 to the wheel stock how much with this ess is it a vt1 or vt2
Another impressive build!
Holy shit how much Rpm did it do at the top?
could you tell me how much the m3 loses to the wheels ? what is your estimate on this?
how many horsepowers are that ?
Could anyone please post the right turbocharger model? Is it the VT2 550 or the VT2 575 or any other model of ESS? Not anything on the engine was replaced? Not even reinforced crankshaft bearings and also thicker gasket between the head cylinder on the block?

Thank you in advance to everyone.
Josep- A) Its a supercharger (Vortech) not a turbo,B) Injectors and fuel pump was changed /ECU was remapped C) Why would you put a thicker head gasket? Its 10 psi.
Will this work on a 2001 330ci
I have a 2001 bmw 330 ci convertible,i'd like to add supercharger. would that work?
Jacek Markiewicz no its a convertible.
+DanK.98 I rarely laugh at UA-cam comments. This made me laugh.
How much does it cost to program computer ?
Wow, never realised my M3 was so popular!
Yes this was my car! Sold it about a year ago, damn I miss it :(
Was this an 01? Car went to Perth? If so then I own it now :-)
KIRKY It was an 02. That did absolutely go to perth!
Hows it treating you?
Peter HMan how much did this cost you all up parts and labour?
+Peter HMan I've only just seen this, yes treating me well I love the car but looking at moving it on for a family friendly car now. it's on carsales now.
Peter HMan do you think the money was worth it? Was it really that noticeable power increase on the street? What made you decide to go with ESS? Cheers
How long does it take to fit this kit ?
246bhp standard, surely should be near the 280 mark?

something is off here. Standart e46 M got 330 Hp, or 250 KW at the crank. Thers no way yours got 180.
+TcgShopLandshut at the crank and at the flywheel are the same thing so you are wrong
TcgShopLandshut ~240 Hp at the wheels is still low for a stock e46 m3
how much drivetrain loss do you mean the M3 has got? 180wkW = 245whp.... 245whp/0.85 = 288hp. Learn more than your standard NFS shit nab
if I can do you selling the kit and how much is cost. where I can buy it.
Holy fuck its really that easy for supercharger? Just plug and play the pretty songs it sings... Wonder if I could do the same for my E36 1996...
turbo is even easier to install on your own if you have the tools. getting it tuned takes someone with experiance
KableFI I Supercharged my e36. Videos on channel
KableFI Its so easy , only thing You need is some software work and programming
Turbos are way harder to install. You have to tap the engine oil pan, replace the exhaust manifold, lay the oil feed and return lines, all the plumbing for the intercooler (turbos need one, not necessary for a centrifugal supercharger) and tuning is much more difficult. It also costs much more. However, you do have the ability to make more power on exhaust driven turbos.
its meant to have 238kw standard
That's 256rwhp. The engine itself on a dyno is 330hp at the crank.
this is a super charger, it's powerd bij the engine,....a normal turbo is powered bij the exhaust.....
Just to explain.. mariomaster281 and others.. New Stock BMW M3 has 343 HP, thats 275HP at wheels.. they measured 191kW = 260HP so it's down to 15HP on wheels in comparison to new car. So what is your point about m3 being better? What did M3 do better?
520 on crank
centrifugal super charger ?
How much does something like this cost?
Where can i find a cheaper kit for a 320i 170hp? i am really interested, pls who can help me
i got e46 323i bmw can u bolt on this type of supercharger on m52 2.5l 6 cylinder inline?
sell the car and get a 330i or m3 lol
The way my e46 323i is modified i can beat 330i bmws. I remapped it changed the whole exhaust system headers 2 hi flow cats x pipe 2" pipe all the way. Also changed my diff 3.46 ratio. I keep up with r32 golfs.
Actually 330s can be tuned to 800 whp
WELL yes but different kit. the 323 motor does not have individual throttle bodies like the m3
look up Raptor superchargers they have some kits
I got a 1994 bmw 530i e34 m60 3.0l v8 engine... You guys got anything for me.???
how much for a kit?
u guys in melb?
4 ess kits available for the M3 E46
