Great video. Just one question. Do you think it can connect, via bluetooth, an external microphone? Thank you very much. Cheers, from the Azores Islands - Portugal.
Thanks for sharing. I dumped my Hero5 in favour of this camera but I'm finding really noisy footage. I'm shooting at XAVC S HD, 1080, 120p, 100m. Can you tell me the settings you have with the shots on ur bike? TIA
The bike shots were in 4K, 29.97p, H264. Underwater shots were in HD 59.95 p, The final UA-cam timeline was exported at 1920X1080 30p, h264. Hope this helps!
When you connect it to the HDMI port, do you get a clean (no menus) image at 4k? Is there any latency that you notice? Also if you have it connected to hdmi, can you record on it?
Sony: Zeiss Tessar multicoated lens Balanced Optical SteadyShot (B.O.SS) stabilisation 4K resolution up to 30fps1080p up to 120fpsBluetooth and Wi-Fi Battery - 1340mAh GPS Overlay GoPro: 4K 30fps, 2.7k 60fps, 1080p1206 elements, aspherical lenselectronic stabilization onlyBattery - 1220mAh, 3.85VUSB-C port, HDMI output portWi-FiBluetoothGPS (Photo only)The specs are neck to neck, the biggest point of difference is the Balanced Optical Steady Shot, B.O.S.S, which is a physical stabilisation found in the lens and on the sensor, GoPro's stabilisation is electronic. Possibly GoPro implemented an electronic stabilsation in order to encourage consumers to buy the external stabiliser Karma gimbal. That didn't really work wout for them as the Karma drone (which contains the removable gimbal) crashed to the ground...what goes around...comes around
It's easier to turn it off and on via the app. By default the GPS should be on unless the camera is in flight mode. The desktop app is needed to overlay the GPS footage.
Make sure that GPS is on in the camera, import the footage through the Sony desktop app from the camera to your computer, using that app you can export the clips with the GPS overlayed. It's a cumbersome process that should be streamlined in the future imho
The remote control accessory or the mobile phone app, as it's a wide lens it will capture a larger image than what your eye can see, so just point and shoot
Do you always need a wifi connection to connect it to the remote live view? Because how can I connect it to the remote live view when i'm in the woods?
Nice video. By any chance are you doing a comparison to the Hero6?
If I can get my hands on one, I'll try. Dave Dugdale did on his channel, he compares the sony, hero 6 and yi, take a look there
Great video.

nope, no bluetooth!
It does have a mic input jack though
TY fr the reply. Good to know
Yep. I have both and the optical stabilization of the Sony FDR X3000 destroys GoPro. I am in love with my little white 4k camera. haha. Love it!
In love? Do I hear wedding bells?

Future Shock Digital is there a major visual loss normally when filming at 1080p60 then reducing it to 1080p30 for rendering?
Did you actually test the microphone input before your review? Regards from an unsatisfied X3000 owner.
Yes, it worked alright, I recorded the sound for my Avidemux video using it

I have never tried, so I can't say! But I would imagine that action cams and monitors like a Atomos Shogun might not be a perfect match
it's Sony for the win in 2017, and for the budget $100ish cam it's git2p.
Specs of the two? sony and go pro .

How do you turn the GPS on screen speedometer on?
(looked in the settings and could not find it)... thanks.
It's easier to turn it off and on via the app. By default the GPS should be on unless the camera is in flight mode. The desktop app is needed to overlay the GPS footage.
Which app can get the info of acceleration or speed like you showed?
Make sure that GPS is on in the camera, import the footage through the Sony desktop app from the camera to your computer, using that app you can export the clips with the GPS overlayed. It's a cumbersome process that should be streamlined in the future imho
I didn't get the GoPro adapter with mine. Other than that it really is a GoPro killer. I had the Hero4 Black and I'm glad I got rid of it
My bad, it's not across the board. I got a special copy via a company that was doing work for Sony with the adapter
how I will know what Im shooting without any view finder or LCD screen?
The remote control accessory
or the mobile phone app,
as it's a wide lens it will capture a larger image than what your eye can see, so just point and shoot
Do you always need a wifi connection to connect it to the remote live view? Because how can I connect it to the remote live view when i'm in the woods?
It's Wifi direct from the camera to your smart phone/remote - the camera pushes out the signal, the remote/phone picks it up
I did not get a GoPro adapter :(
My bad, it's not standard, I got it as a bonus
i did not get a gopro adapter with mine...
My mistake, not all of them do!
does this come with a charger for the batteries?
No, it's charged by the camera. The battery itself though is removable if you wanted to have a spare
The battery lasts a very long time, but an external charger is a good investment (along with a few extra batteries).
In 1080p your videos looks grainy like crap. Why is that?
Could be UA-cam, could be how I'm compressing it at export. But, it's probably better if I just blame UA-cam
Future Shock Digital You need to force youtube's av9 codec on your video. Video will look way better after that
Thanks for the tip!
so it can't even do 4k 60fps? New Yi 4k+ does that at under $300. Sony already obsolete.
