      @@kevink9764 Men were depicted as weak while women on the other hand were depicted as strong. For eg, m baku and shuri. White people were shown as evil trying to steal vibranium. Also white people were called colonisers. Imagine the uproar if black people were called slaves in the same way.
      Another thing was that they replaced a name character with a female character again. First it was female Thor now female black panther.

    I think what happened with Mbaku is that Shuri decided not to be queen and just be Black Panther. So it leaves it open for him to be king. Also, I'm looking forward to the Disney+ Ironheart series. We'll get to learn more about Riri there.

    The slavery scene is when the Spanish conquistadors conquered the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incans civilizations. As a Mexican American, watching a hero from my ancestral indigenous heritage is special. My ancestors were the Aztecs, and they lost their civilization and language because the Spanish conquistadors conquered mostly everything. I can speak my native Aztec language and Yucatan Maya language, too.

    When I watched this film I had especially enjoyed how Ryan Coogler had directed the scene of Shuri visiting the ancestral plane because it was clear that Shuri being submerged in water was symbolic of her being drowned by her sorrow and isolation due to the deaths of Ramonda and T'Challa; and when she surfaces to the throne room I imagine the display of fire was meant to be representative of the overwhelming emotions of hatred and fury that Shuri held in her heart for not only Namor but for the entire world.😔

    Seeing this movie on opening night in theaters was so surreal. It was unlike any other marvel theater experience. The whole theater was silent and all you could hear were the sound of people sniffling. Honestly one of my favorite theater experiences ever. This movie was the perfect send off for Chadwick and I think he would’ve been so proud.

  • @Drake844221
    @Drake844221 Рік тому +21

    The entire crew has said that making this movie helped them process their grief for Chadwick's passing. I really love that about this movie, and you can absolutely feel it in every moment on the screen. It's crazy to hear some of the stories, like how even in his early MCU roles, people would notice that he was needing to spend more time than most in the warming tent... his cancer was impacting him even then. And yet he did not go quietly into that good night. He pushed to give the world a powerful character to remember even after he was gone. I don't know that anyone else could have truly formed T'chala into the symbol that he did through his drive and dedication. Even here in Seattle, I see murals with his likeness on them. It really shows just how powerful his impact was.

      @diegofonseca6708 Рік тому +2

      That’s bs. No child can ever be prepared for the untimely loss of his/her parents. I know that very well. The same as how no parent will ever be prepared for an untimely loss of a child. There’s something wrong with you or you weren’t close to your parents if you don’t feel deep pain from losing them. Especially losing them to cancer. That’s how I lost both of my parents.

    • @SaundersBoy
      @SaundersBoy 11 місяців тому +1

      @@diegofonseca6708 Thats an oversimplification, I think the quote is more complex than that. To prepare a child for his/her parent(s) death doesnt mean prepare them to not feel pain when the time comes. I think it means to do one's best as a parent to give children the tools to survive in a world even after the parents are gone. To raise them to be independant, to "keep going", even though it hurts,, to understand that death is part of life, and not being afraid of it. Again, it doesnt mean that the loss will "hurt less", its more complex than that.

    My mother died from similarly to Chadwick Boseman from complications from cancer a few years ago, and like Chadwick she kept the fact that she knew she was dying from us until a couple days before she died. So it was very hard to watch this movie, not just because of my mother, but because Chadwick Boseman and the character of T’Challa are my heroes.
    But it was still a beautiful and cathartic movie to watch. And coming out of the theater I met a family of 10 black people who like me were wearing all white out of respect for Chadwick and T’Challa, we talked about how much we loved the movie and afterwards they let me take a picture of them with their phone in front of the Wakanda Forever poster. One of the most beautiful and cathartic nights of my life.
    As for the story itself, I loved it. People think that Namor is the villain but he’s not. The real villain is white, European imperialism. Throughout history European empires plundered other nations for either resources or for slaves. Even though it’s 2023 it’s absolutely believable that either Russia, China or the U.S. would look for any excuse to dismantle non hostile nations just to rob them of their resources. The Contessa herself is a perfect example, she’s practically salivating at the idea of America owning all the vibranium in Wakanda. Everything Namor did was because he wanted to prevent what has happened throughout human history to happen to Talocan.
    And I still cry my eyes out at the end with T’Challa’s son telling Shuri his real name. Rest In Power Chadwick.

    Shuri definitely had fight training. As you said, she fought in the first "Black Panther" movie, and she also took part in the battle against Thanos in "Endgame". Nakia's absence during the events of "Infinity War"/"Endgame" make sense now that we know that she and T'Challa had a son together. I appreciated that for Shuri, her victory over Namor wasn't her beating him in a one-on-one fist-fight; it was a match that really came about because of her intelligence & planning. Even at the end when she's able to cripple Namor, it's not because of anything she does with her strength or fight capability; it's using the exhaust from the ship to burn him. It's all tangible and within her character & arc.

    • @livelovelife32
      @livelovelife32 Рік тому +4

      She had training but it was obvious her training had not been anywhere near her brother's. I thought her getting her ass handed to her in a fight with fighter as experienced and as powerful as Namor was very realistic. In the end it was Shuri's strength - her technology - her personal strength and her heart that allowed her to win their fight.

    Namor is the first mutant in the comics. Not the fictional world but the first mutant character created. This was sort of a retcon in the story of how they defined mutants but officially Namor is a mutant and when created in 1939 they did not have a word for what he was so it was not until the 50s did they call him a mutant and that term became part of Marvel comics.

    There was a deleted scene where Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda did get to meet little T'Challa. Of course, for obvious reasons, the scene was deleted so that the reveal in theaters would be as it was to the fans.
    Although the filmmakers and Angela believed that the Queen meeting her grandson was a beautiful and heartwarming scene, everyone agreed that it was best to take it out and show him at the end credits scene.

    Not only was she the one who helped Bucky in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but remember how she was first introduced? Back in Civil War, she was the one who told Black Widow, "Move, or you will be moved."

    For the six months before this movie came out, I was living Shuri’s story. Some days, I still do. The loss of Ramonda nearly broke me in the theater. I saw me in Shuri’s grief. While the loss was a lot for me on a personal level, I think it was important for pushing Shuri to her full potential. She would have left the hard decisions to her mother as she had been for a year instead of stepping into her power. She and Letitia Wright had to earn the mantle through the hardships and grief and I think they did it.

    • @zurirobinson2749

      My name is Zuri. When I saw Wakanda Forever, I was a 22 year old neuroscience/data science student, and had just learned from a DNA test that I'm descended from a tribe in present-day Kenya (which Wakanda encompasses part of in the MCU lore) that spoke the Xhosa language (spoken in Wakanda). When the first Black Panther came out, I had just gotten into an Ivy League university, so my family said that I was "their Shuri" (and of course when I arrived on campus and started meeting people, at least 1 in 5 times I told someone my name they said "oh, like in Black Panther!")
      My mom, Rhonda, died of a brain tumor when I was 15. She was diagnosed when I was 10. At the very end, it basically made her "forget" how to breathe such that she couldn't clear fluid from her lungs- she essentially drowned in her own body.
      When I realized Ramonda was dead, I looked over at my dad, calmly said "I can't do it", and burst into tears. The movie had been close to home even before that happened- long story about a buff Hispanic "bad boy" and my jaded older cousin (I wish I was making this up but I'm serious)- but her death was the emotional equivalent of being punched in the face. I was stunned. It was the third time I'd left a Marvel film crying because I was triggered. I saw Infinity War the day after I was in the ER for inexplicable neurological symptoms that my terrified mind thought "brain tumor", and Peter Parker's "I don't wanna go" before being dusted reminded me of myself, a terrified teenager that didn't know what was happening and didn't want to die. Tony Stark's blank stare after he did the Snap in Endgame looked exactly like my mom's the last time I saw her.
      I still haven't tried to watch the whole thing again. It being broken up in reaction videos means that it's not immersive enough for me to get triggered (and also I know it's coming), but I'll never forget leaving a 9 hour Black Friday retail shift only to be emotionally curb stomped for almost 3 hours by a damn superhero movie.

Since the infinity stones no longer exists in this universe, the only AIs we know now are entirely passive such as Karen, FRIDAY, and JARVIS.

Because you both appreciate films with black main characters on a special level. Seeing JV tearing up and being openly vulnerable with his feelings like, that's amazing. I don't see that everywhere. I look forward to seeing more from you both. I can't wait for your reactions on Across the Spiderverse!!

    I don't really like the interpretation that the reveal of T'Challa son is the sign for the 'REAL' Black Panther future is set up. Its such a disservice to what Shuri has to go through to be Black Panther and the fact that she just received the roll. (Plus implying that Shuri isn't worthy or the real Black Panther.)
    I just think that the reveal of Toussaint helps Shuri to realize that she isn't alone and that she still has family.

      Tchalla was dead for 5 years after Infinity War so that would have been perfect to honor Chadwick then and have a post credit scene when Tchalla gets blipped back then he’s off to endgame. They honored Chadwick but Tchalla is still alive and they can recast him through the multiverse in Secret Wars

    It's not fair to compare the underwater scenes in "Wakanda Forever" to the "underwater" scenes in James Wan's "Aquaman" movie because they were filmed COMPLETELY differently. The underwater scenes in "Wakanda Forever" were actually filmed under the water, while the ones in "Aquaman" were NOT. The reason the characters' hair "moved better" in "Aquaman" is because it was 100% special effects. The scenes of Aquaman in Zach Snyder's "Batman v Superman," on the other hand, were actually filmed under the water, and they look VERY similar to he scenes in this movie.
    James Wan filmed all of the "underwater" scenes for the Aquaman movie using a process called "dry for wet," which is exactly what it sounds like. The scenes were filmed in a dry environment (on a soundstage) and edited later using VFX to create the entire underwater atmosphere, world and kingdom, as well as re-creating/replicating all of the characters' hair. The actors had their hair slicked and tied back so the VFX artists could more easily recreate/replicate it.
    Since Ryan Coogler chose to film underwater for "Wakanda Forever," a massively important part of the pre-production process involved months and months of preparation and practice by the actors, spent learning various breathing techniques so they could breathe as long as possible underwater. The actress who played Namora ended up being able to hold her breathe for more than 6 minutes, which is just INSANE!

    The more I watch reactions to this, the more I realize how much easier it is to understand Namor when you are latin american. He is absolutely right when he says that "surface people" - we know exactly what quota of people but he doesn't differenciate and that is is his error - would come for them. They would. If Talocan sis and waits, US and EU governments would start bombing his cities with no remorse to take the vibranium and call it a "defensive war". We've seen this happen. Many times. Damn, France does that to a Wakandian outpost in the beggining of the movie.
    Namor's methods may not be right, but he's not in a position to be merciful. And I don't think people without the background of a colonized country can really grasp this so easily.
    Besides, I can really picture the discourse: "The Talokani are sooo tired of living underwater isolated, we are setting them freeee allowing them to enjoy the wonders of a life in the surface world!!!""
    Add propaganda to it and they could even get some Talokani to agree. It's all a repeat movie from the real life.

    8:49 It was only showcased for a few seconds in the opening intro for when Okoye steps in. Even though they wear vibranium armor to protect themselves from stray bullets. I'm glad you noticed how they actually used their spears to deflect some of the shots fired at them.
    Their training is that intense and their reflexes are so honed that they basically could be Jedi at this point. They are that skilled.

    Regarding the Ancestral Plane
    As far as I remember, from the way T'Challa initially explained the way 'death' worked in Wakandan culture, it didn't seem like the Ancestral Plane was exclusive to previous Black Panthers-- I feel like any Wakandan should be able to go there after passing. So I don't see any reason why Rowanda wouldn't go to their afterlife aswell
    A good example of a non-Black Panther (as far as we know) appearing in the Ancestral Plane is Killmonger's father (whose name escapes me right now; T'Chaka's brother, T'Challa's uncle) who appeared to him when he became a Black Panther in the first movie.
    Actually, it's kind of interesting-- I'd never really thought about it but since death is so present in this film...
    When Namor's people initially took their version of the Herb, in his explanation, he essentially said they'd died, before they resuscitated... and Black Panthers briefly get to visit the Ancestral Plane when they take their Herb... along with Shuri's half-joke about how she didn't want to be buried when taking it incase of cardiac arrest...
    Huh.
