Dark Souls is a magical experience when you're trash at it and need to keep learning at every corner. I don't understand why people seem to be pissed off that he's not good at it, it's WAY better like this. It's the purest way to play the game, and none of us can do it like this again, and I for one think it's great that I can relive the way the game seems to a new player through Asmon's eyes here.
Your point is 110% correct for any person, except Asmongold. It's been three full steams of Dark Souls so far and he has yet to actually play Dark Souls. he take learns nothing of what the game is trying to teach him. half is deaths are blamed on the game while literally anyone that has actually played Dark Souls will tell you that no dude, that was as your fault as it can possibly get.
@@SondreGrneng that's okay. As long as he plays through the game he will have to learn at least a bit. I don't think you can really play this game through and not understand it at all in the end. It's fine, it's his experience, and for someone who's been playing almost nothing but wow for years the transition will be difficult.
@@UnwrittenNoise I hope so, I really enjoy watching his streams and I honestly want him to enjoy this. I admit I have been pretty bad at basing my criticism on the fact he has played almost only World of warcraft for so long and is now moving into Dark Souls which is as fundamentally different from the current design philosophy of WoW as you can get. He IS improving, though so I expect him to fully embrace it soon. Edit: Oh, and if you haven't watched the rest of his streams and don't mind being spoiled slightly for the future, I suggest watching the clip he added in his tweet after the last stream
@@SondreGrneng I've been watching vods of his streams on twitch and he's improving slowly. I think one thing that's making it harder for him is that he feels pressure from streaming the game, he is embarrassed by being bad and he thinks that if he would stop and take time to read about and practice the mechanics of the game that would be boring to watch. Still I think he's getting better, and like sen's fortress was a wall that forced him to learn a bit etc. It's good, and he seems real happy whenever he beats a part that's giving him a lot of trouble, which is how the game sucks you in.
Everyone is talking about their first experience with Dark Souls so I'm going to add mine too. When I first started playing the game, I was legitimately afraid of everything so I spent more time hiding like a little bitch than actually progressing. After like 2 hours of being in the Asylum, the first place I actually tried to go to was New Londo Ruins and I got molested by ghosts.

It has to just be an act Asmongold puts on. I understand what "being new to a game" looks like. This is not that. Okay. Since he finds the Longsword, we know he understands the blue glows are items. But he walks right by the one that would give him a shield multiple times. I get he's doing a blind playthrough, but I think he exaggerated his lack of understanding for the bit. Like, I've seen in other comments that around the time of this stream he'd pretty much only played WoW. An MMORPG. Being able to identify the difference between "Using" a consumable and "Equipping" an item is a skill mutual between the games, right? Also, not identifying a boss health bar as... A boss health bar? If you've played any 3D RPG (WoW included) a boss health bar appearing large and proud at the top or bottom of the screen is a staple. So I just... Legit cannot in good faith believed absolutely ZERO connections were made in his head between the two games. It's like growing up playing Pokemon on your GameBoy and then playing Final Fantasy 7 on a friend's PlayStation. You'd still at least be able to identify how a MENU operates, right? Item pickups? Regardless of these streams happening a year ago... I refuse to believe that this guy didn't exaggerate his lack of knowledge, and it's been bugging me for the whole 2 hours of this stream I've watched so far. If he's trying to emphasize he's "new" to the game, that'll become obvious as you play in front of people who have played. There's nothing wrong with being a newbie at a game. There IS something wrong with dumbing yourself down to the point you hide previous experience you've gained and act like it doesn't remotely apply to be tasks.

It's 2023, I've recently also picked up Dark Souls and let me just say, watching this was very painful. I refuse to believe that he could have been som blind, with severe tunel vision and not remember anything about the environment even after almost 6 hours whatsoever. Any sane person would also at least try to read descriptions and at least inspect weapons they get. Someone tell me otherwise please cuz its just the first video an im already going nuts. It's still fun. Onto the next one.
First time I played DS I never made it past the Undead Burg. I quit before ever seeing the Taurus Demon. I'm a pretty avid gamer that's completed many hardmode challenges in the past. I always beat most of my games on the hardest difficulties, and had many rare and difficult achievements under my belt. And I spent fucking hours and hours wiping on the undead burg. I legit thought the game was broken and would simply tank once the piss poor reviews started pouring in. To my amazement, the game received critical acclaim. Then one day I walked into the living room and my brother was playing some new game, and as I stopped and watched, the Gaping Dragon cinematic unfolds and my brother starts hacking at this thing, rolling around and blocking. I didn't recognize the game; I legit asked him what badass game he's playing. When he told me it was DS (a game left collecting dust for months at this point), I couldn't believe it. I asked him how he got past the Undead Burg and he just laughed. Then, he showed me how to ACTUALLY play. It's not a hack and slash action game like I thought at first. Not even close. My scond playthrough was a mess. I was blind and specced so horribly, that by the time I got to Gwen finally, I found him impossible. I turned my Grass shield into Crystal and it broke. I accidentally unequipped my Ring of Favor and Protection, and it broke. My spec was a mess. My gear, shambles. I made it this far, I'd kill this last boss if it's the last thing I do. So I did the only sensible thing; I deleted my toon and started all over again, SL1. I watched hints, tips and tricks. I read up on proper builds. Dove into the lore. And I had a fucking BLAST, finding secrets I completely missed in my first runs, hidden items, and more. Since then, Souls series has been one of my favorite series of all time, having done multiple completionist and challenge runs with tons of different styles and builds across the 3 games. This game, is a fucking masterpiece. One that I very nearly missed out on.
Damn dude I had a similar experience to you honestly, I didn't think the game was broken, I simply compared it to Ninja Gaiden as a game that was too big of a challenge for me; after years of not playing DS I tried it again and just like you I had a blast on my second try
The only "tips and tricks" you need are given to you by the game itself Its just a matter of learning how the game works from the menus and enemy movesets instead of autopiloting throuhh it All cristal weapons state in their description they have extremely low durability and can be found relatively early in anor londo and later through the dukes archives (in abundance) You were just a victim of voluntary ignorance, just like baldergold

Incredible. He's trying to brute force everything. Feel kind of bad for him though, McConnell trying to troll the hell out of him. The game got to him in the end too. But then again, almost 6 hours of Dark Souls is tough for any new player. He could have saved himself a lot of frustration if he only read some of the messages in the beginning and tried to figure out the controls a bit more.

Damn dude I had a similar experience to you honestly, I didn't think the game was broken, I simply compared it to Ninja Gaiden as a game that was too big of a challenge for me; after years of not playing DS I tried it again and just like you I had a blast on my second try
you say you completed many hardmore challenges but found ds1 too difficult?

I suffer badly with depression and anxiety which stops me wanting to go out at times and I've watched his full ds1 Ds3 and elden ring plays multiple times and the part bloodborne one and when watching them the depression literally goes away and I just enjoy this, it's funny and entertaining it's just brilliant lol thanks for this because it's more important than some realise
I hear you man
Having your character sound like he's bustin' every time he gets hit is fucking hilarious
The second the Asylum Demon fight started I knew it was going to be a long one..
This is some DSP-tier incompetency.
DSP being bad at games isn't even the issue. Pretty much every big name youtuber and twitch streamer is awful at most games, especially if they're like Asmon who has spent his entire career playing a MMO which is leagues different than every other genre of game. That's not the point and why DSP is such dogshit. The issue is his attitude. He's bad at games on top of being extremely toxic, narcissistic, and disgusting. I've never heard a man belch and snort as much as he does. Worst of all however, is he is BORING. He has the personality and charisma of a dead fish. He uses a facecam but he just sits there with a permanent scowl on his face looking like the sad depressed piece of shit that he is. It's worthless, just like him.
damn son
Watching him get absolutely rekt by havel is pure dark souls love
1:31:37 that scream of sorrowful rage reminded me of Father Ariandel's scream from Dark Souls III
Man I feel so bad for him cause of the twitch chat, I just enjoyed him experiencing dark souls for the first time :)
Yep, they made this really hard to watch, same with McDouchelord who intentionally ruined his run.
@@rekktacular how'd he ruin it? Tf
@@nachocheez9690 The game does a great job of being difficult and trolling the player on its own. Being forced into situations which screw you over is already built in.
No need for the extra nonsense, it just wasted time and it was over-done.
@@nachocheez9690 the game is already hard, Asmon during this run was already having a hard time just with the game itself. Now you add some dipshit giving you terrible advice so he would see you going back to the start over and over and over and over again makes it a lot worse. Like how the fuck does that dude even think going back over and over again is funny? Dude is so fucking retarded that the only fun he gets from watching someone play is when they suffer.
Fuck he sounded so upset when he had to tell him that you did not have to go talk to the dragon, bitch even said "jesus christ" when he actually gave good advice. How the fuck do people think this dude did not intentionally ruin a run by giving the worst fucking ideas/advice ever in the history of fucking ds1 playthroughs.
Thank god he got called out for his shitty ass behavior. Thank fucking god he left. Bro was trying to gaslight asmon into thinking it was asmons fault when it was his fucking "advice" that got him killed in the first place. As soon as he gets called out, he leaves and acts like a little bitch.
@@rekktacular what? he did't do anything just a lil bit troling and even then he isn't wrong when he saying there are bonfire and didn't explain it's locked trough the gate.
This whole play through can be described with one question “whats a firelink”
I was about to complain about how sloppy he plays but then I realized that in 5 hours he got to Lower Undead Burg. In my first playthrough, after 5 hours, I was still getting my ass kicked by Taurus Demon.
I haven’t seen many Dark Souls videos but this is the funniest I have seen. I haven’t actually played the game but I most definitely will now. It seems like a challenge.
The map connectivity in this game still amazes me.. totally brilliant.. Never saw such complex map interconnected in any other game so far.. Best game ever.. the first time I came across Firelink Shrine (with that music) and seeing Anor Londo is something that's difficult to explain.. No game ever comes close to that feeling..
I've watched these vods so many times, probably my favorite playthrough of dark souls
Who else is here to relive the magic after he rage quit DS2?
Yh
I'm a sadistic person I enjoy watching people in pain and every other week in the weekend I watch Asmongold playing DS remastered and I enjoy myself. This is the best of asmongold if you ask me.
I just started watching him recently, and it's a sight to behold. Loving every minute of it tbh.
He didn't even realized he cut the Gargoyl's tail and got the axe and I love how he even checked to see after the fight if he got a new weapon and the axe was just there and he completely ignored it. The best!
The face he makes every time mc laughs at him
I have so much respect... He played legit 6 hours without any real Break and didnt rage quit
