This has been best conversation on the subject that I've listened to. I extend my compliments to Oli for being a great interviewer. Oli was efficient in that he put forth only good questions succintly, and he was very patient as he allowed Norman to discuss his views with minimal interruptions. As usual, kudos to Norman for discussing the subject very informatively. I wish more interviews on this subject were like this. Well done to Oli and Norman.

Yeah, it just seems wrong to call such a wicked government Jewish. Especially after so many centuries of Europe's Jewish communities doing *so* much to right the wrongs of the world, to oppose imperialism and resist capitalism, and feudalism before it. His calm tone means nothing when what he says are mere opinions and sometimes borderline alternative facts and conspiracies. One less apparent example: His analogies about slave revolts in the US, which were indeed juste causes, are misplaced, misleading and even inappropriate considering the above facts (Egypt made Gaza what it is) and spreading terror, jihad, or religion is not a juste cause in the first place!

"Mostly civilians" - Incorrect
On the 7th, it is crucial to understand that there were no direct attacks on civilians, only collateral damage. Out of the 1148 total names on haaret dataset, 473 military and 675 were civilians.
Ratio of civilians to military personnel killed on the 7th was 1 . 4 : 1 - lower than any of the iTf "mowing" operations, which has a ratio of 7 : 1
According to UN OCHA data from 2008 to 2022; The collateral damage on the 7th was significantly lower than any of the ITf "mowing" operations, which had a ratio of 7:1 with 1,023 military personnel out of 6,541 total.
On the 7th, with 473 military (418 were iTf military personnel, 55 belonged to the police) out of 1148 total, the ratio of civilians to military personnel was a mere 1.4:1
When including all casualties, not just deaths, the collateral damage ratio of the "mowing" operations is a staggering 162:1
From the 161,233 accumulated civilian casualties over only 14 years of "mowing" operations.
A 162 :1 ratio means that for every 162 civillians, 1 military personnel is a casualty. The 7th had a ratio of 1.4:1, more than a hundred times lower.
The 473 are - 55 soldiers, 13 privates, 59 corporals, 200 sergeants (45 of whom were sergeant majors), 48 commanders, 32 lieutenants, 5 lieutenant colonels, 6 colonels, 37 officers, 10 inspectors, 6 intendents, and 2 Lance Corp. This was a military defeat, and they are taking it out on the rest.
The reported ages of the victims are as follows:
0-4: 2 civilians
5-12: 8 civilians
13-17: 14 civilians
18-25: 132 civilians
26-40: 119 civilians
41-60: 55 civilians
61+: 40 civilians
Active duty military personnel:
18-25: 258 active duty military personnel
26-40: 60 active duty military personnel
41-60: 17 active duty military personnel

The other verses are not much different. Infact it is always in association with violence. This is the polar opposite in the Quran in Surah Al-Tanwir, literally "The Englightenining" Surah, Aya 8-9, we have the death of a newborn is mentioned amongst the penultimate signs of the end of times, emphasizing the gravity of such an action. That child, now resurrected, is asked for what wrong doing was she murdered. This is to emphasize that she had done nothing wrong, for she had done nothing wrong and this is the day of retribution where those who omitted the evil are to be punished.

This is also the opinion of Ibn `Abbas, `Umar bin `Abdul-`Aziz, Muqatil bin Hayyan and others. Muslim recorded in his Sahih that Buraydah narrated that Allah's Messenger said: "Fight for the sake of Allah and fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Fight, but do not steal, commit treachery, mutilate, or kill a child, or those who reside in houses of worship."
It is reported in the Two Sahihs that Ibn `Umar said, "The Prophet forbade killing women and children."
بابتداء القتال أو بقتال من نهيتم عن قتاله من النساء والشيوخ والصبيان والذين بينكم وبينهم عهد أو بالمثلة أو بالمفاجأة من غير دعوة
"To kill those whom you were forbidden to from women, elderly, children and those whom betwixt you is a treaty or custom or by surprise or without cause"

"Do not kill the dwellers of monasteries"
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ قَالَ: كَانَ «§يُنْهَى عَنْ قَتْلِ الْمَرْأَةِ، وَالشَّيْخِ الْكَبِيرِ»
سَعْدٍ قَالَ: «§نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ قَتْلِ النِّسَاءِ وَالذُّرِّيَّةِ، وَالشَّيْخِ الْكَبِيرِ الَّذِي لَا حَرَاكَ بِهِ»
"The prophet forbids the killing of women, children, and the elderly"
This is the polar opposite in the Qur'an, Surah Al-Anfal Ayah 61 in which even oath breaking deniers/unbelievers are allowed to sue for peace states if the unbelievers they ask for peace, give it to them.

I just love the clarity and honesty of his speech. People complain that he speaks too slow, but it is because he gives value to each and every word that comes out of his mouth. I live in Brighton Beach Brooklyn so I am a neighbor of yours Dr. Finkelstein. My parents are also survivors of the European Holocaust. Unlike you, I was born in the Soviet Union and I lived in Israel in the early 1960's as a young child. My memories of Israel are very good and I have been dealing with learning more about the more realistic history of Israel, compared with what I had learned. That history could have been very different had Israelis and Palestinian had different leadership and had created a society which incorporated the strengths of the different populations instead of exploiting their traumas and vulnerabilities.
I am horrified by what is happening now and what has been happening for the last decades. I don't feel Israel represents me or the aspirations of my parents. I think there has to be a shift in consciousness on both sides and I believe there will be. Unfortunately, as is usually the case, the "gods" of violence will destroy many lives in the meanwhile. Thank you for your devotion to the true principles of Judaism and humanity. As Margaret Mead pointed out, it is always a small group which has created change in the world.

Dear Dr Finkelstein, I feel that whatever I am going to say in response to your passionate, thorough and utterly pertinent contribution, it is not going to describe the intensity of my reaction to it. I gave myself some time to organise my thoughts before commenting by doing some ordinary daily tasks. In spite of it, four hours after watching this video, I am still deeply affected by much of what you share, describe and report. I am a contemporary of yours. I recognise some of what you describe as similar to my own childhood experience, albeit very different as well. One thing that resonates is the powerful presence of a mother whose experience to an important extent determined my own political development.
It is the 4th of May, the official commemoration day here in the Netherlands. Tonight we will have a two minutes national silence in memory of all those whom died in ww 2. As a young woman I used to go to a memorial site of ordinary neighbourhood lads whom had been killed as they were resisting the invaders. I remember taking lilacs. People honour in their own way for reasons of their own. Tonight will be different from any previous commemoration as many people will be thinking of the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people. Yet I do not think a mention will be made of it. We'll see. I lived in the UK under Tony Blair when Irak was invaded. I remember how I observed with growing dread and disbelief how the fable of 'weapons of mass destruction,' was rolled out. I remember Dr.David Kelly. I remember his visit to Irak to investigate and I remember his suicide. Do I need to say more?
Lastly, I have only last week come upon you via you tube and am grateful for now knowing about your existence. Listening to you and some of your interviewers, I felt at times that I was back in the seventies and hearing the same political language again. A language that has been under attack and, I thought, was nowhere to be found anymore. I cannot thank you enough. Nope, not “bravo, Politics Joe!” The questions weren’t “challenging.” The questions were framed in a way that betrayed this guy’s uninformed and thoroughly propagandized view of the issues at hand, and frankly, are offensive in their delivery and their implied content.
