Not a great advertisement for Richmond Land Rover who did all the other suspension work and somehow missed such major brake issues and seemingly let you have it back in such a dangerous condition!
Any RR will eventually nickle and dime you to death. You have to be the third owner as the first one buys it new and trade or sells it when the factory warranty expires. The second owner will put a lot of money in it and get to the point when they decide to just sell it..... like yourself. The third owner will have the benefits of the previous owner's wallet for a while and then the cycle starts over again. If you have invested your money wisely so far into the RR and the mechanic tells you there is not obvious issues left to do and the main ones have been addressed then enjoy it for a few years before parting ways.
Keep it regardless, you've already put money into it, have replaced some major components that should last another long time... you'll not financially recoup your spend and at another 10k to get into another one, only newer, you're just buying an unknown.... Welcome Katy to the channel as well... Great addition!
Joel did you ask any questions of Richmond Land Rover about how they missed important items like brake lines when they were under the car doing the suspension?
I owned Range Rover's for over 30 years. I started with a 2 door 1976 secondhand one and after a few years moved on to a 1988 4 door one. There only issues were some rust and a great thirst. Then in 2000 I got a new P38 which I had to convert to regular springs and shocks after 5 years because the air suspension started to fail regularly and then finally I got a new LR322 in 2009 with the Supercharged engine. I finally admitted defeat with Range Rovers and their notorious suspension and sold the LR322 in 2013 with a year of its 5 year warranty left because it would spend 3 weeks out of every 4 weeks at the dealers waiting for suspension parts to be fitted under warranty. They had had nearly 20 years to fix their rubbish air suspension by then realised that they did not need to because people clearly do not care. I would still own one were it not for the suspension issues because like you and countless others we just love them. They are definitely not a daily driver from the moment they have their first suspension related issue. After that they are "garage queens" in both senses of the word.
I think that garage ripped you off. Your break calipers weren't seized, you would have known this when driving. Having a break hose pop wouldn't seize the caliper either.

I love the fact that I have 400 horses under my right foot but, like you said, you don’t want to drive it fast.

Sell it. It clearly hasn't been a well maintained car and things are starting to go wrong. It does cost a lot to keep an old ship afloat. Did they rectify the Air Conditioning? The A/C Evaporator coil replacement is a very expensive job on that model if it's faulty.
You should make a little series for off-roading for beginners - people who maybe would like to try it but have absolutely nowhere to start. You could do videos on how to prepare the car for it, off-roading essentials and accessories, how to find areas to do it, post-cleaning / checks after it. You could definitely squeeze a couple of videos out of that. Good luck!

HI Joel, Back in the 90's I worked for Land Rover assistance, and it never failed to amaze me how strong the customer loyalty is for the brand and I have no doubt that brand loyalty is what has kept Land Rover going. On more than one occasion I attended broken down Range Rovers with the customers stating " this is a pile of shit, the last one I had was, and the one before that was too. I pick my new one up next week"!!!!!!!!!
Keep it! I recently got a 2005 Range Rover Sport and I am IN LOVE! The reason I say keep it is because these cars won’t be around for long and we need to savour the experience as much as possible!
Hi Joel, bad luck to you mate on this one. I’ve got the same car for ten months now and after purchasing i did some preventive maintainance like water pump and aux belt. After that the only thing that broke is one air susp strut in 10.000km. Hi Joel, firstly I think since you bought the cheapest range rover in the UK (L322) these types of problems are to be expected given also to the condition the car was in when you bought it. I have had the privilege of being the owner of 2 L322's both bought from a good dealer and had previous service history. I am a fan of both of them and 4 years owning one, I am hap[py to report that they are reliable if the previous owner looked after it so I am lucky now I drive nothing but Range Rovers with pride.
L322 is one of the best vehicles for day to day driving in my opinion, owned a 2004 autobiography v8 and still miss it despite selling years ago. Amazing in all conditions apart from tight corners! Since owned an L405 and a sport and neither compare, feeling too big for British roads and a more clunky drive with some of the magic of the L322 being lost. Weirdly I also had a W208 CLK cab when I owned my L322, good combo for leisurely year round driving… I would sell the 7 series though, luxury saloons seem a bit pointless when the RR gives you 90% of the noise insulation and toy count, with double the practicality in one vehicle…At least this is what I felt years ago going from an S class to an L322…
Ive got a 53 plate and i love it. Up to now its never failed me and has cost nothing except service kits. Earlier this year i took it round the NC500, all the way from Lancashire, 1500 miles, in a week and it never missed a beat. The only problem it has is the dead pixels on the dash and i can live with that. You need to keep it, why spend more money on a newer one when its only gonna have the same problems. Its a Range Rover, things going wrong is part of the fun.
Good morning, A word from a retired "Petrol head". Many moons ago my daily drive was a land rover series 3 paid for by the tax payer. I loved Alfas and had a GTV. I spent much beer coupons upon it. Wife loved it! Kept it for many years. Still sad I sold it.. Keep your furniture van and get it as you like it and save the rest of your disposable on a nice holiday!
I would get a 2010-2012 tdv8, you seem to like driving the l322 a lot and the diesel will save you a decent amount on fuel. Not to mention it has a boatload of torque and can get you up to speed quick enough.
Hi there. i have a 2004 v8 petrol that i bought this year.... people always ask me what mpg it does.... i respond with that i don't do that calculation anymore and now go for pence per mile... currently running at 65 to 70 pence per mile with the running costs and repairs lol ... but i love it .
Hi Joel, said it before and I'll say it again - think you're great. Katie looks and seems to be really lovely too. Do yourself a favour and please get her to wear a seat belt 🙏
You can't run a RR on a budget. They are highly complex luxury cars. BUT. They offer a driving experience few can rival. Keep it. You can always tow a caravan behind it when you have to sell your house to pay the next bill!
I have had a range rover like yours but I fixed it myself until I gave up on it after taking it from 90k to 258k, and got a 4.2 SC L322. I now also own a 5.0 SC Overfinch. Yes they are like an addiction and at times I wonder why I have to have them in my life. I think its when you get in and put your right foot down hear the supercharger wind up it just puts such a smile on your face you can't help yourself. You will make your own mind up but for me once you have owned a range rover you will always want one. Rocket propelled arm chair is what my son calles the supercharged cars.
Range Rovers are very reliable if you keep them serviced on regular basis like any other car....The problem is as they get old the owners don't keep on top of maintenance..... I own two Range Rovers one 5 litre sc and the TDV8 I've spent lots of money on them with maintenance, where the previous owners have not spent money on maintenance.. And now I have no problems at all......
@@lbnewell23 that's when you can drive it and it's and not pulled up at the side of the road waiting for the RAC again... Land cruiser everytime over one of these barges
I don’t deny a land cruisers reliability and a ranges unreliability but I’d put up with the headaches just because they’re so much nicer and less like an old defender 😂
Sounds like it's time to make sure you've got breakdown cover to get the car home from wherever it brakes down! Land Rovers have been turning owners into mechanics for years so it sounds like it's time to buy some spanners and a workshop manual!
Glad you got it back Joel. £10,000 on a Range Rover will still have issues no doubt about it. Friend of mine spent £90,000 on a vogue and had big issues. Its inherant with the JLR group sadly. Katie seems lovely :)
I enjoy this channel despite my advancing years, for the exuberance and occasional sheer lunacy. The Range Rover being one example. They are one of the most comfortable cars you can own, much more so than an X5 say or a Cayenne, quite a short list of pros really! A friend has had 2, the first an Overfinch tuned V8 which I drove for a weekend, great fun, but a PIA to park in London. The second he bought new in 2011 and in the 5 years he owned it pretty much anything that could go wrong did. He traded it in for a Cayenne 5 years ago, its definitely not as comfortable, to drive or be driven in and the ride is harsher but nothing has gone wrong and he says it is the most reliable car he has ever owned! I'm in my 60s but I still don't feel old enough, crusty enough or Chelsea enough for a Range Rover! Unlike old people dogs probably prefer estate cars bcause they are easier to get in and out of - for a dog that is and Range Rovers are still a nightmare to park. You've spent the money though so probably worth keeping a newer one will still cost an arm and a leg to run and will still go wrong. The airbag suspension is a big bill in waiting but its a big part of why they are so comfortable.
@@p_mishev Exactly, hate guys that come out with shit like 'hes punching' or money. Woman look for a combination of things by coming out with crap like that just shows you don't realise that and likely why bitter.
Its a range rover they break... mine breaks while broken down... am waiting for s transmission sensor and wiring and now it has a coolant leak from the manifold and there you go, the first parts not even arrived and i have ordered another gran on parts. Nothing drives like it nothing breaks like it
Land Rovers and RR have that effect. I’ve got an 05 Discovery 3 which, with the exception of our first 140 miles driving home together, hasn’t been right since. But I won’t give up on it yet! It has a minor suspension issue “sometimes” and this last week or two of rain has made its way into the transfer case control module, locking it in low range and disabling loads of other systems making it near useless, but it’s staying. Despite its incessant and fault-code free bing, I just turn the radio up, switch on the heated leather and go anywhere I like without a care in the world! Once I’ve fixed the TCCM anyway….
Considering your most recent problem with that car was brake failure, your lass has got some balls not wearing her seatbelt. Interesting video, my wife wants a RR…trying to avoid that bullet. I can see why she wants one, yours is nice.
Hi Joel, I have been where you are with the Range Rover many times. Last time was 10 months ago. I fullfilled a dream and bought myself a Citroen XM. I like big Citroens. In 6 weeks it did everything they are infamous for: it leaked all liquids it can leak, windows worked one moment and not the next moment, etc. I sold it straight away. Optimism is excellent when dealing with old(er) cars, yet sometimes realism has to prevail... Just my 2 cents...
RR is great to drive. Nice and high up driving and looking over hedges seeing more of countryside. You have paid to have it all done, just to sell on for someone else to drive and enjoy ! The RR has presence, in the high street or on the country lane. In the winter, snow, rain, floods and rivers, others stuck and you will just cruise by. Sounds like you have Range Roveritis, love them and hate them but NO other car gives you that feeling when you get behind the wheel. Now try the TDV8 3.6 270BHP, 26 mpg in town, 32 mpg on a run. Sounds like a smooth V8 and has the upgraded gearbox ( jaguar) so smooth don't feel gear change. Best sort after and loved by RR fans, can be used as a daily runaround. Welcome to the world of Range Rovers. Now you have spent the money you have a RR as good as any newer version, enjoy 😉 it, and always have a grand tucked away 😀 for a rainy day.
It’s called ‘Range Roveritis’, Joel, and once you have it it is very difficult to shrug off as logic and reasoning goes out the window! There is just something about the drive that gets into your soul. I too have spent more on mine than it’s worth but have no intention of parting with it for the foreseeable future. You will know deep down when the time is right to upgrade, until then continue to enjoy the experience!
Just bought an early 4.4 v8…… kinda regretting it already just because of how much bloody fuel it uses. Fairly rapid though for a big old car. Amazingly as of this moment in time everything on it works…. Let’s see how long that lasts
The fact it broke exactly where and how it did has given the channel an extra 100,000 views so far over the two Mercedes videos... I'd say no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should! Cheers from Australia.
Sell both the mercdes and that range and buy a slightly lower mileage one pops up for a decent price buy that. You’ll still get the Range Rover charm and hopefully fewer headaches but slightly higher asking price. Because you can forget about the one bill of buying it but you can’t forget about it when they’re one after the other. The love for them won’t be constantly ruined by rattles and warning lights then (or at least less often)
Vibration is likely to be at the rear end...balance possibly or tyres...if it's coming through the car it's the rear..through the steering is the front...bushes possibly. There is always a reason people sell cars...usually big bills looming...a fully historied Range Rover of the same generation is usually no problem..although you will of course pay more....horses for courses. Great channel thank you....watching from Inland Spain 👍
My father in law has a 2011 HSE with now over 176k miles. He has owned this thing for 10 years now and doesnt want to get rid of it despite it eating money, and I completely get why. I love driving it even though my anxiety level for it leaving me stranded is sky high everytime. Last weekend the tire monitor light was flashing (malfunctioning), the check engine light was on, BRAKE warning message and airbag light all came on, but it drove fine. Lets see if it makes it to 200k
Just to clarify - I bought a P38 4lt Petrol for £1600 - put about £3k into it overall and had it for 18 months. Loved it and scrapped it because the engine block failed. Shame but it won't stop me getting a L322. At least your engine is more reliable than the older P38 ones....still cheaper and better than Golf!! If you do want to sell - let me know!
If you’re after a more reliable range, go a 4.4 V8 from 05 or 06. That’s the Jag V8, and it’s much more reliable. Also a stronger 6 speed gearbox. I’d keep that one though and just be ready for timing chain guides to go
I would be asking Richmond land rover ,how a thorough check of the underside didn't flag up brake pipes and seized calipers a few hundred miles later. 🤔
Excellent video. I am glad you made it back safe after brake failure. I say keep it for now...but please don't take it off road! I think that could be the car's undoing. At this age and mileage it would be interesting to see how it fairs. You could pay £16 000 for a 11 plate (they have soared in price) and still have issues.
I actually like this Rangie. Looks Sits well. I love the interior. Even H of Harry’s Garage reckons this generation is the one he loves the most and he’s had 7/8 of them. Mustn’t sell. Just yet. Don’t get into another in a year that could be another unknown money pit. Stick with the one you’ve got with the money already sunk in it. From a car trader. Best advise. Once into it. Must enjoy the spend. Have AA. And all good.
I'm not sure about the wisdom of not wearing a seatbelt, especially in a car that just had failed brakes. No judgement though, it's her life and her decision.
I'm a 2012 Range Rover Sport owner. During one year I've invested half the purchase price in the repairs, service etc. I bought it for 16.6k GBP, invested around 10k already... This car makes no sense. It's expensive, maintenance is expensive and troublesome, I've waited over 3 months for some powersteering wire to be shipped to Poland from UK. I've been thinking many times about selling it. But you know what? Not gonna happen. I love this car. So do not sell! Your "big" Range is beautiful and awesome ❤️
Hi there, trust me even if it goes wrong again and costs lots your still want to keep it as even if you spend 10k on another you will still have issues it's just a range rover thing
You only loose your investment, when you sell, so you don’t get the benefit of the use. I’m letting our L322 supercharged on a 59 plate go, for no reason, as it’s a 59. The car has never had the issues your RR has, but only done 65k with full history. My point is, how these cars have been looked after, shows on how they fail
Welcome to Katie and the return of your Range Rover. You’ll regret so much if you sold it. You both love it and drive it so hopefully now you can enjoy it together. Hopefully see you out off roading it soon.
Good review as always Joel. You have definitely scared me off of the idea of buying an RR. That said, I think that you should give the old girl one more chance as you have sunk time money and effort into it. The RR has also provided good content material, far better than a newer more reliable car with no problems or issues to discuss with your viewers. Happy trucking.
I feel the same about my 1995 4.6 HSE. It's a total nightmare with a knackered transmission and a coolant drinking problem, and I trust it about as far as I could throw it, but yet... There's just something wonderful about rolling in a Range Rover that I can't describe, that ten letter constellation across the front of the bonnet really means something special. Despite being well aware of its many many faults, my GF agrees with yours about Range Rovers 👍
My advice is to sell both the rangie and merc - hopefully you should be able to recoup your costs and then buy yourself an L430, it’s a much better car all round and much kinder to your wallet. Or whatever car you decide on next, make sure you take out a warranty policy to cover your backside next time.
Joel i'm subscribed to your channel because of the Range Rover. I used to watch your videos but was not subscribed. Keep the Range Rover you can't beat them, Katie is nice! Keep her too Joel :)
Keep it!!.. you have sorted all the things that go wrong with them. At the end of the day you got it super cheap but it needed some work.. that work is done now so you should be good.. I have a 2008 4.2 supercharged and It is the best vehicle I have owned..at the end of the day if you sell it you will only find a way back to another one!! There is something about being in a proper Range Rover. Nothing beats it👍👍
Didn’t pay attention to anything the guy in the hideous jacket was saying!!! The girl without her seatbelt on had me from start to finish. Love any RR content
@@CasperBritto Yeah I noticed that, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to wear a seatbelt like that and you can be fined as it’s just as dangerous as not wearing one at all
Hi Joel, I think I've had just about every land rover going including several l322s petrol and diesel which were absolutely brilliant to drive. If you've got a decent diagnostic tool and can turn a spanner I'd recommend keeping it if not, I'm always looking for donations 😂 Great channel mate keep the content coming
I think the only lesson to be learned here is not that the L322 is unreliable but that Richmond Land Rover specialist is a bad company. They’ve checked your car over and missed seriously dangerous items, if god forbid the brake failure caused a bad accident they’d be completely liable and it would be jail time for someone. I’m not sure how a company who claims to be a specialist could miss or not even attempt to look for corroded brake pipes on a nearly 20 year old car. This shouldn’t of been a surprise bill so don’t blame the car, keep the Rangey going!
The RR is a keeper! (It always helps when your other half approves! ) - long-distance/ off-road, maybe even improv car camping content would be awesome!
Your not wrong Joel I've got a v8 jag same thing its broken my bank and my heart but 3 years on its had ££££ spent on it. She has being good as gold the last 9 months Keep hold off it if you like it.
I also love my 54 plate Vogue V8. Used every day however yes, one or two faults may have occurred! Alternator and fuel pump to name two. However I have a very nice BMW - do I use it? No! I use my old Range Rover! Just can't get rid of it.
I had the same issue with my Peugeot RCZ, I kept saying “just one more big bill”. It got to a point I then couldn’t afford to sell the car as daft as it sounds, took a massive loss. And then bought a Mercedes c350cdi. Which is just a much better car despite a higher mileage.
She looks amazing! The Range isn't bad either ;)
Cheesy lol
Funny.

She is wearing her seat belt
She’s wearing one just not properly.
You can't run a RR on a budget. They are highly complex luxury cars.
BUT. They offer a driving experience few can rival. Keep it. You can always tow a caravan behind it when you have to sell your house to pay the next bill!
Yes, the 4.4 TDV8. 8 speed box, much better infotainment that can have CarPlay added, just makes it a much more modern vehicle.
It’s true. I think mine has been so neglected, and I’m just chasing the issues at the moment. Hopefully it’ll smooth out before I’m totally bankrupt 😂
Do your steering wobble happen when u turn the steering wheel at a angle
Dunno how the hell you managed that one mate but , get in there fella 👍🤣
it drives so good because it’s heavy and powerful. the reliability would do my head in. land cruiser all the way.
The Range Rover is a much nicer car to drive and to sit in than a Toyota
@@lbnewell23 you’ll be sitting at your local garage most of the time and not in the Range Rover…
You will end up buying another for sure! Its a Disease the L322’s. Best keeping it
I can't believe you don't have AA or RAC type recovery cover. What were you thinking... ?
Have you ever thought of taking out breakdown cover?
Sounds like it's time to make sure you've got breakdown cover to get the car home from wherever it brakes down! Land Rovers have been turning owners into mechanics for years so it sounds like it's time to buy some spanners and a workshop manual!
Glad you got it back Joel. £10,000 on a Range Rover will still have issues no doubt about it. Friend of mine spent £90,000 on a vogue and had big issues. Its inherant with the JLR group sadly. Katie seems lovely :)
Yes you’re probably right, they do just seem to be riddled!
Britpart calipers are around GBP50 per corner, that's where I sourced mine.....
Joel - you are a lucky man with such a beautiful girlfriend.

@@ThunderRoadDreams I'm not bitter thanks. She even says later in the upload she doesn't want him to go broke.....
It’s under her arm
I heard on a high Peak video that land rover offer a £1500 a year warranty when they service it for you. Have you explored that?
Joel have you considered a video on your watches?
Think I’d keep it for at least another 6 months. Hopefully it’ll give you trouble free motoring in that time.
Joel, I’m having the vibrating issue too - around 45mph … then it stops! You know what the problem is?
You worry too much. Relax, you are in a Range Rover and you need to love it for better or worse and accept it for what it is.
Check the rattle isn’t coming from the parcel shelf mate
Excellent video. I am glad you made it back safe after brake failure. I say keep it for now...but please don't take it off road! I think that could be the car's undoing. At this age and mileage it would be interesting to see how it fairs. You could pay £16 000 for a 11 plate (they have soared in price) and still have issues.
Remember it’s at least 15 years old, things will break, you’ve fixed them, drive it, enjoy it.
She's got it tucked under her arm dipshit
She is wearing it
@@dannymaskell4923 Everyone loves an internet hardman. There's just something so masculine about you.
"power steering wire from Poland".. why? Every single nut and bolt can be bought in the UK!

Get the wheels balanced it only takes 30minutes.
Wow.. Fair play to you dude.. You are Pushing!!!
Hi Joel, however much I appreciate and love what you do, that body warmer has to go mate.. it's larger than large.. 👏😉
Keep up the great work..
What?
I agree that black vest looks like an oversized life jacket, get a new better fitting one please 😬 also keep the Range Rover
Sort your girl friends seat belt out before the air bag gets her
Everyone knows you just can’t beat a Range Rover! Great video, looking forward to your challenge 👍
My advice is to sell both the rangie and merc - hopefully you should be able to recoup your costs and then buy yourself an L430, it’s a much better car all round and much kinder to your wallet.
Or whatever car you decide on next, make sure you take out a warranty policy to cover your backside next time.
Got a 2012 4.4TDV8 - silky smooth, been mostly solid. A few niggles here and there. But can’t bring myself to sell it.
How much was that doggie in the window?
I'd sell the Rangie next time it breaks :P Do you like the land cruisers?
Joel i'm subscribed to your channel because of the Range Rover. I used to watch your videos but was not subscribed. Keep the Range Rover you can't beat them, Katie is nice! Keep her too Joel :)
Keep it!!.. you have sorted all the things that go wrong with them. At the end of the day you got it super cheap but it needed some work.. that work is done now so you should be good.. I have a 2008 4.2 supercharged and It is the best vehicle I have owned..at the end of the day if you sell it you will only find a way back to another one!! There is something about being in a proper Range Rover. Nothing beats it👍👍
There both keepers for sure! 👍😀
Didn’t pay attention to anything the guy in the hideous jacket was saying!!! The girl without her seatbelt on had me from start to finish. Love any RR content
She's wearing a seatbelt, just she's wearing it in a way that would ensure her ribs snap and pierce her lungs if she got into an accident :^)
@@CasperBritto Yeah I noticed that, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to wear a seatbelt like that and you can be fined as it’s just as dangerous as not wearing one at all
Low speed shake on the wheel could be hubs not balance.
It only happens above about 55mph / hoping it’s something simple
@@itsjoel does it go away at a higher speed? If not, it probably isn’t wheel balancing.
Rear brake hose cost more than front brake calliper!
At the motorway speed as I have a 4.4 that had the same problem and I fixed the problem and owing a Range Rover is a passion

Hi Joel, I think I've had just about every land rover going including several l322s petrol and diesel which were absolutely brilliant to drive. If you've got a decent diagnostic tool and can turn a spanner I'd recommend keeping it if not, I'm always looking for donations 😂
Great channel mate keep the content coming
oh have you
Well spoken!, Lovely and posh, especially reviewing the RR. A posh car anyway. Well done young man. Hope you go far!
You really should remind Katie to put her seatbelt on.
The RR is a keeper! (It always helps when your other half approves! ) - long-distance/ off-road, maybe even improv car camping content would be awesome!
Sitting in a garage waiting for cars to be repaired made Hoovie a millionaire.. not a bad living Joel.
