Late response but Evangelion is most owed to psychoanalysis and continental philosophy, and that’s what makes it so resonant with ppl imo… it offers an alternative perspective to these everyday experiences and growing pains by comparison to hegemonic positivist theories (ie analytical philosophy and modern psychology)
Others perception of "you" is not the true you either.
But who are you but the sum of your actions and words? I do not readily see your intentions, no can I read your mind for your thoughts. And with the internet, I cannot see your face nor hear your voice to read emotions. What other information must I have to see the real "you"?
This is anxiety, to feel better, deep inside you have to focus and accept that you must use your intellect on more pertinent thoughts, and move on

2:35 this little bit always really hits me...the thought that"perfect freedom" is limited because you don't have"restrictions"to gain perspective and that with less freedom you feel easier because there's less to worry your mind.
After watching this scene, I really started questioning on how I am myself. Am I myself because of my personality? My looks? How would I know if I am myself? How do you know you are yourself? How do you understand yourself? It's very difficult. Evangelion what have you done to me.

I thought about this a lot but ultimately I disagree. Although Sartre agrees with ideas about symbolic interaction, his idea of freedom is almost seen as a damning burden. On the other hand, I think this more closely matches the beliefs of Peter Berger and his theory of social constructionism, where the freedom to interpret the world in anyway you wish is seen as a boon, but the key to harmony is everyone understanding each other's perception of reality as closely as possible

Thanks to this post, I'm being reminded of how he started off some weird monolog about Sarte (and Kant too, I think) after overhearing this scene from the kitchen in the next room... even stranger that I also remember him browning some ground beef with some chopped onions (an unmistakable scent), in preparation for a pot of chili.

I like the Eva dub overall, but man you can really tell everyone was just thinking "fuck this" when they recorded the last two episodes.

As cliche as it sounds, the only way to achieve happiness is by manipulating or changing your own perspective. You can take happy pills, counsel yourself, and have an infinite amount of friends, but if all you can ever think about is how much you hate yourself, then you need to change your perspective for the better.

This is weird, this is missing some sound effects and has some additional echo / reverb effects on the voices. This is strange. Where did this exactly come from?
Oh wow - it's over a year ago - I'm not sure where.
I think those effects came from the directors cut version of the episode. The Gendo I hear here is the original Gendo, I think. For the directors cut version they got a soundalike to come in and dub/redub some of his lines since Gendo's original VA had a falling out with ADV.
Studio JAW but do you know if it's ever been officially released? id like to have the audio track to add to the bluray versions that have come out. mostly for completion purposes, and this version is kinda interesting.
ADV released both the original versions and the ones director's cut edits on DVD. You'd have to check which versions Amazon or some other site has if you wanted to buy them. I know Amazon had both at some point. If your cool with just downloading them though, you can find streams for both online fairly easily, I think. KissAnime used to have the original versions of episodes but recently switched to the Director's cut versions.
I'm pretty sure the bluray versions are gonna use the director's cut version of the episodes though. The audio track may take some adjusting because the edited episodes added some scenes and reanimated some parts. Like this [wiki.evageeks.org/Guides:Episode_22_OA_vs._DC]
