Do comment your interpretation, I would love to know your point of view!!!
Now after re-reading as u said, it makes sense that the narrator is her future self. The wish would be that she wants to talk to her past and discuss about the regrets of her life & stuff like that and this wish is being granted as abt the last line “That’s because you’ve already made your wish.
That's my speculation but we will never know for sure lolll
@@noobreaders Yeah! Exactly
Great explanation!!! I think you got it, only the last piece of the puzzle is missing. Why did Birthday Girl insist "You already made your wish?" And how could Birthday Girl know this? There is only one answer (in my opinion): Birthday Girl's wish was to become someone else, namely she wanted to become the person who now is the narrator. The old and wise magician knew that this is nonsense and asked her to wish for something else. But she insisted, and voilà: they changed persons. Birthday Girl became the person who now is the narrator (and cannot make another wish, cause she already made it) and the narrator became the Person who now is Birthday Girl, with a successful life, Audi car, tennis lessons and all. That's my idea about this TOTALLY AMAZING story :)
Murakami also tells us, when this switch took place: the very moment she left the room of the old magician. Apparently nothing happens, but Murakami gives us a clue that something did indeed happen to her that very moment.
Let me know what you think?
Omg You are genius!!!!, yes this makes the story complete and makes perfect sense😍😍😍
Even I felt the tone of book changed after she walked out of that room like roles reversed ...she is telling to her younger version of herself
That's such an elegant way to think about it! It even further contextualises the comment about people only being able to be themselves with the material succes of the birthday girl. Even if something official comes out, I've accepted this as the only reasonable explanation !!!
I didn't get what you told. Can you simplify it again?
The explanation you gave about the narrator actually amazed me more than the story... Amazing Interpretation!!!
Aww thank you so much😍😍😍😍
My first Murakami was: Tsukuru Tasaki..
I was pleasantly surprised it was so grounded yet so strange !!
It revealed the murder of an important character & I thought the Murderer will be revealed in course of the book.
To my utter astonishment, the Murderer is never traced & the story ends with a further 4 or 5 questions only !!!😳😱
I learnt to live WITHOUT Closure from then on..
I have Completed all the 14 novels by Murakami & 2 short story collections.
I LOVE Murakami with All my heart.
After u finish the 14 novels,
Pls also read What I talk about when I talk about running. He's revealed a bit of his personal side in that memoir. He's Unique.
I find his books really frustrating because I want closure in the stories i invest my time in. I don't think i will read anything more from the author but it's nice to see fans like you who love his work and really appreciate him🥰. Thanks for commenting ☺️.
Ugh! I knew it. Why does murakami leaves all of his stories at a cliffhanger . I always enjoy reading his books, his writing style is super engaging. But the endings! Oof.
Yeah seriously the ending of birthday girl left more questions without providing any answers🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for this beautiful explanation
Tomorrow i have exam....and i understood very well ....it was very helpful to me 🤗✨
Omg thank you so much for this beautiful comment❣️❣️. All the very best for your exams ☺️☺️
I guess murakami is writer of magic realism
So dont strt with this book if u r beginner
Go with sputnik sweetheart and norwegian woods then come to this u will absolutely njoy it❤
I read Norwegian wood too but it's very different from this book. The birthday girl feels like an unfinished story as compared to Norwegian wood.
I came right after reading the book. Your explanation was quite accurate about the old man being who he was.
I just completed "Norwegian Wood." I am still comprehending what just happened in that book. There were times when I felt so bad for the characters.
I guess Murakami has a style of writing where things will be going okay and all of a sudden there is a jab of pain. And his way of blending reality with imagination and thoughts is beautiful.
Can you recommend another book by Murakami?
Thank you😍😍, Norwegian Wood was a very sad book but i definitely enjoyed it. You can try Kafka on the shore next but i personally didn't like it much 😅😅😅.
Ah, the joy of going WTF? lol
Maybe her wish was to have a conversation with her older self to learn about her life and future? and that's why she is talking to the narrator(herself from the future)?
I love how weird Murakami is!
yeah I agree the narrator is the older self but did she wish that? we don't know and we never will. Murakami surely writes weird stuff. Currently, i am reading Kafka on the shore and still feeling wtf is going on. I am so lost😅
OMG!! I too did the same interpretation as you did.
@@lollll6581 great:))
I haven't read it ... But adding it in my tbr after seeing this review🌸
Awww thank you so much dear!! you will love it😍😍
@@noobreaders Recently I read this book ...This was my first book by Haruki Murakami...And I need answers too 😂 who was the narrator ...what was her wish ?....But I loved it coz it made me thinking about it for days😅... And want to read more books of Murakami 😅
@@dikshareads Yeah i can totally understand the feeling I love this book for the same reason as it left me guessing what exactly happened!!!!
Thankyou!!!
☺️☺️
what a genius you are>>>!!!
Omg thank you, you made my day☺️☺️.
I like ur view on narrator... I think u r right... The life itself is our wish and narrator probably completed maxm part of life so she don't have anything to wish... She already done it....
Thank you 🙂🙂
I read this book recently and it happened to be my first Murakami book, but was so disappointed with it!! Even I googled about the ending but like you said, none of them were satisfactory😓
Yeah, open endings make me so anxious. I am happy to know I am not alone who need answers desperately!!!!😝
Thanku for video
Thank you so much for watching 🥰🥰🥰
Just right now I finished this book and it's my first ever read to murakami book ...and just felt like what happened then I saw on UA-cam that like me every one is confused 😜😂😂any way love this book
Murakami literally wants us to keep guessing😜😜
@@noobreaders yes u are right
The author wished to be a writer and his wish did come true.
We are the proof, we are reading the authors book
The girl can’t say her wish, as it has not come true yet.
I believe the author wants us to love ourself as we are.
I just finish the book and I stumble on your video trying to find answers. After much thought here is My closure.
I really love to see people coming up with their own interpretations!!! thank you for commenting. Your answer gave me a new perspective on the story :))
The first book I read by Haruki Murakami is - "Men without women"
Did you like it?
@@noobreaders so so .....🙇♂️
@@jaipurbooktuber it's a weird one🤣🤣
Amazing way to interpret this book
Awww thank you 🥰🥰

Awww thank you so much🥰🥰🥰
Great explanation.
Very confusing book 😅😅😅
Thank you so much!!😊😊
Yes ur version makes a sense....
Thank you so much!!!!!
OMG!! I just read this right now and just started searching. Im totally blank that what's that wish! It was my first ever read of murakami and story ends with these many questions left behind!🤔 Totally strange!
I googled, the answer I got is the same as u said, SHE NEVER HAVE TO WISH AGAIN is her wish.(for me it makes sense but its not satisfactory)
I know right this book keeps us guessing!!
What does that dent on Audi car signifies......anyone plz clarify
I don't remember anything lol It's been some time since I posted this video.
I have an altogether diff interpretation... I opine that actually it was the owner's b'day... It was his wish to again relive the life... That's why it was so destined the manager falling sick in sync to when the owner stopped the girl to say something but the first thing he asked was her age(why? ).. he knew she would somehow ask for it as it was his wish on his b'dy again!! So he came outside, he was living the life and met the girl and told her she aint got any wish( as he rwish just got granted). Both of them had their bdy on the same date just might be Murakami sir shifted our focus with the title. Ig since Murakami turned 70 when this book got published, so he decided to put him at the owner's place.
Interesting take🥰🥰
Plzz also explain
The court of thorn and roses
The hunger games
Shatter me
Fourth wing
The selection
The cruel prince
Wohhh so many 😅😅😅, i have the review of court of thorn and roses book 1 on the channel. For the others I can try, thanks❣️❣️
We do know the gender of the narrator in Japanese; he is male ("boku", informal, masculine, like most of Murakami's protagonists!).
Really thank you for pointing it out!!!!, now I am more confused lolll
I also thought (when reading the English translation) that the narrator is a female, namely the former "Birthday Girl" persona. It's a bit disappointing to learn that Murakami chose the masculine "boku" here, rather than a gender neutral pronoun. Nevertheless, to me it's still the most plausible that a switch in personalities took place. It's a "crazy idea" but it ties up all the loose ends and many clues Murakami gives us in this amazing story!
@@andreascarl9636 I agree the idea is kinda crazy but it makes sense😍
I think, If you get everything you wish for, you won't be happy.
But why not? please explain
@@noobreaders I have "One Wish". Physically and mentally, I Struggle Everyday to make it come true. I enjoy this process of making my wish come true. This gives me real happiness. It gives me a reason to live. It doesn't matter to me whether my wish come true or not as long as I am enjoying the process. May be I die without fulfilling my wish but let's say if some day it come true, I will respect the result.
If my all wishes start coming true, It will steal my chance to explore the hardships required to make those wishes come true. May be they give me some moments of happiness but that would be nothing compare to real happiness. Also, I will never able to respect the result.
At last, wishes can be infinite, but let's say your all wishes come true, now do you even have a reason to live?
But it's all my thinking, it is debatable.
I got your point, it makes sense tooo🙂
Even I am so pissed. I need closure.
I know right, open endings make me so anxious!!!
@@noobreaders exactly dudeee exactly
This book was written only to waste your money,,,,
Beginners should stay away from this but if they read it, they will stop reading before they even start their journey in book reading.
I am totally angry, pissed off, disappointed and I hate Murakami for his this action.
Hahaha i can totally understand your frustration, i felt the same way after finishing the book🤣🤣🤣🤣
My thoughts and modus operandi literally. I am equally pissed. But painfully this was my first book by murakami and left a bitter aftertaste 🥲
I can totally understand your frustration loll this book is weird🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
