Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast - with Tony Law

Richard finds a bona fide cool kid in the audience and inexpertly attempts to mock him (you’d think he’d be better at comedy after all these years, but no), before introducing a force of nature and veritable river of consciousness, Tony Law, in his new mutton-chopped, ice-cream eating, alcohol-shunning, heavenly body impersonating incarnation.
It’s like his brain is a radio and someone is constantly swivelling the dial so that one moment you’re on history, then fantasy, then insanity and then pinpoint sane philosophy. It’s a discombobulating journey to go on, especially if, like Richard, you’re getting a bit tired, but Herring gamely attempts (and largely fails) to get some questions in.
In the end he more or less gives in, but Law is an unstoppable force of nature and cannot be silenced. Though the fear is that at any point something might happen to upset the fragile mental balance that somehow remains teetering on equilibrium and that thing might very well be Desert Island Dicks. Finally when the conversation turns to the supernatural things start to make sense. But Richard is knocked out and defeated and was right to say he wasn’t looking forward to writing this blurb.

This is amazing, surrealism mixed with moments of absolute honesty and self-awareness. I don't think I've seen anything like it.

Great to see that it wasn't the booze that made Tony so awesome though. I've always been a fan, but he's much more interesting now. Big difference between funny drunk nonsense and just plain funny nonsense. Well done Tony, it must be hard to have your past on record, I'm certainly glad mine isn't!

It's like he's afraid Richard will take the piss so just continuously speaks out of lack of self-esteem. See this more often with female comics and it irritates the shit out of me. What would have been funny is destroyed

I think you thought Law was being serious, when it was just a character he was putting on. Watched a lot of these now and I thought this was one of the funniest podcasts, if not a true conversation/interview- Law doing his thing while Herring looks disconcerted and bemused. I personally found Law much funnier than Ross Noble, who had a similar approach.

But the idea is these are all free so it's easier to just pull them off the recording device and slap them up on UA-cam. Let UA-cam sort out the encoding etc. Having to do more such as changing the thumbs would take time. And if I wasn't making much from the UA-cam videos, as I suspect Richard doesn't, I wouldn't bother putting in the effort.
Besides, better just natural like MikesElectricStuff :)

I fell asleep just after watching this and dreamed that I was getting onto the train that goes to the Studio Ghibli museum, at the same time as Richard Herring who was chatting with Simon Bligh, but I was distracted by a crowd of uncharacteristically flirtatious, hot Japanese girls. I deeply regret missing that dream opportunity.
