Been waiting for this for years, really enjoyed Brian Blessed’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast (bblstp). What was weird was, at the start, that Richard Herring bloke came up from the audience and said some stuff, but when Brian came on, instead of going back to his seat in the audience, Richard just sat in the middle of the stage during the entire show! Unbelievable! Being the true professional that Brian is, he just ignored it and carried on with the show to end, amazing, nothing phases him.
Saw Brian Blessed on tour at The Orchard Theatre recently and it was one of the best nights of my life. Got to meet him afterwards and he was influential when I told him I’m going to Drama school this September. At one point when he was talking on the stage a couple of people were nipping out to go to the toilet and he shouted ‘WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING!?’ 😂😂
Outrageous tales, base and disgusting impulses, gut-wrenching laughter. It was especially amazing seeing and feeling Rich's torture and pleasurable exhilaration. The amazing beauty of a human: a man, a performer, a story-teller, an eccentric/mad-man losing the threads of his own stories at times, an adventurer and explorer, and an inspiration.
Brian Blessed what a tour de force! A stonking performance from the great hirsute man giant, you won't be disappointed, it's all here! Rich you didn't get many questions in but what a great RHlstp! In years to come this will be remembered as one of the great Brian Blessed encounters. RHlstp is just the best comedy podcast in the universe!
Funny how the most anticipated guest you have had was also the easiest interview you have done. Even when you asked a question, he answered whatever question he had in his head anyway.
That was great and I also like the bit where Brian spoke for ages, then turned to Rich and politely said "Hello," as if he'd just realised he was there. Completely brilliant.
There's even an episode where Grampa claims to have died climbing the highest mountain in Springfield. "I fell 8,000 feet onto a pile of jagged rocks. Of course, folks were tougher in those days."
When a person gets their dream guest and it turns out to be far, far more than they could have ever imagined. Brilliant guest, brilliant show and good of Rich to sit back and just let it happen. It's not like he had a choice.
The phrase "Larger Than Life" barely scratches the surface. And I can't help but think that the term "National Treasure" would be considered an insult...
@@MontyCantsin5 The Cherry on the cake. He's such a fucking purist, there's a whole generation at least, who don't know him from a hole in the ground. That just isn't right. A great man once wrote "Extraordinary fellow, like Mr Punchinello He's the kind of geezer who must never be abused When you're in town and Ebeneezer is around You can sense a presence in the sound of the crowd" and I think that could have easily been written about the great Rabbi Burns himself. Gallows humour? More like Guilletine humour. Chop, chop, chop, no head too sacred, he put the "rave" into "depraved" he didn't lower the bar, he's buried it so deep, Tony Robinson and Time Team couldn't find it. To call him "inappropriate" does him a diservice, because it suggests circumstances where he IS appropriate. Maybe if he reigned in his devoted taskforce of litigation lawyers from getting every bit of footage of him on the internet pulled, and instead, accepted Richard's invite, he could demonstrate what a real fucking comedy monster does. It's savage, it's brutal, and it's not pretty. But comedy's purpose isn't just to make us laugh. It's supposed to make us squirm, it's supposed to make us feel uncomfortable, it's supposed to address subjects so taboo, that nobody wants to look at them. Comedy has a cultural function, in that its the first way we can begin to address the horror of something like a War. WWII ended what, 70 years ago, and only recently Hitler's comedic value been embraced by mainstream comics. But Sadovitz would have been right there with the troops when those camps were liberated cracking on about how big Hitler's gas bill must have been. He would not have turned away. He would have witnessed the horror and processed it, then forced his audience to start laughing about it. Which is pretty much what he does. He's not there to entertain his audience, his audience is there for him to abuse, offend, outrage, and appall, all at such a breakneck speed, by the time you've realised what he just said, he's off on some vitriolic rant about something else. "Omg, did he really just. . . . . . " He was working on his 9/11 material before the second plane hit. He outed Rochdale's child abusing councils way back in 1988 when Cyril Smith was running things. He suggested that the best way to get to the bottom of it, was to get Jimmy Savile on the case, because "He's a fucking paedophile, who better to head up the investigation?" Which, in hindsight was pretty much what happened.
One of the few men in existence whose personality and ability to talk about anything is even larger than he is. What a wonderfully funny and entertaining man, a natural showman.
This is magnificent. Never seen anything quite like it. He could probably tour the UK and do an amazing improvised show every night. The mind boggles. How is he doing it?
I was beginning to think it wasn't ever going to happen. That was one of the best things I've ever watched. He's completely fucking mental! It was like watching someone try to herd a pissed rhinocerous with a fly swat. Fantastic. Congrats on finally getting him on, Richard!
"My only regret in life is not asking Brian Blessed anything about donkeys" - Alan Bennett. Super show. Not strictly an interview but an hilarious hour or so.
You'll notice there's no dressing room selfie here on the thumbnail. I bet that's because Brian literally crashed through a wall, shouted "GORDON'S ALIIIIIIVE!!!", did the interview and then hopped back out through the hole he'd made in order to do a fun run up Kilimanjaro.
So loved this. At now 56, I've adored this man since I was a child tuning into I, Claudius on our small B&W TV in the 70's. So many great stories. I can only imagine what he'd be like in person, you'd chat for a moment....next thing you know it's 5 hours later. The man is brilliant.
Brian fucking Blessed. He just took over. A national treasure! Thank you Richard for just sitting there and letting this anecdonal explosion happen. What a bawdy jolly bastard
One of the things I like about this is that Richard doesn't give up as such but realises he can afford to just let it run and sit back and enjoy himself. Brian Blessed is of course playing Brian Blessed superbly, the call backs to Richard show that this isn't the rambling monologue he portrays it as but rather a finely honed performance. Very enjoyable.
Thank you Richard I am high from laughter! The very best one and absolutely sublime! He is uniquely, unequivocally the one and only Brian Blessed! Fantastic!
Love your podcasts Rich they keep me company while I'm working in the vineyard in NZ - it's like having a piece of home with me 💕tears streaming and wetting my pants from laughing 🤣🤣🤣 bloody funny!!.....Brian Blessed OMG what a crack up he's as mad as a snake 🐍
Brian Blessed is the reason we're allowed to insert the word "Great" into the name of our country! Loved this. It was always going to need a lion tamer rather than an interviewer to steer him. He's unstoppable and quite obviously will live forever. 👍
after waiting so long for this, surely it could only be an anti-climax. couldn't wait for the video so listened to the audio version whilst i had my birthday bath (Fuck me, I'm 53).... cheered me up no end! enjoyed it even more with added pictures! Bravo!
I had they pleasure of seeing the force of nature that is Brian Blessed at Hay Festival 2 years ago. Richard did superbly, the "interviewer" that day only got 1.5 questions in at best
I'd happily listen to Mr Blessed talk about anything for as long as he wants. I don't care what he says I just love to hear him speak. He would have a hit podcast on his hands.
Brian Blessed is so funny. I hope Richard's dream comes true and he gets to interview him one day :)
Haha
Wekk to be fair, I don't think anyone ever managed to actually interview Brian Blessed...

Ian Grey I think that Richard fellow won a “fan gets to sit on the stage” type contest
you made me lol. Good on ya.
Ian Grey haaaa
"BUHBUHLUHSTUHPUH!"
The lengths some of these people will go to, just for a little publicity beggars belief.

This is exactly how you interview Brian. You give the clockwork a few spins and unselfishly let the audience and yourself enjoy it.

So nice of Brian to let Richard speak occasionally.

Once the switch is flipped, he goes on like a Duracell bunny.
One of the best non-interviews I've ever seen
He's 81!
What a specimen
He's not a spaceman, he's a Hawkman!
He makes my 74 year old father-in-law look 174!
he got genetics to live very very long :) God bless him
Richard has Emergency Questions, Brian has Emergency Answers
that's really funny Matty :)

Completely brilliant.
omg are you the actual Andy McH from off of RHLSTP? Hello!
He was the ghost in Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet.
Brian Blessed is essentially a theatrical Grandpa Simpson. "I tied an onion to my belt, which was the fashion at the time" - Brian Blessed 2018
🤣🤣🤣🤣
There's even an episode where Grampa claims to have died climbing the highest mountain in Springfield. "I fell 8,000 feet onto a pile of jagged rocks. Of course, folks were tougher in those days."
Apart from he tells the truth. His autobiography is brilliant
Blessed has actually climbed mt Everest many times.
If I could live to be only have 10% of a life like Brian I would die a proud man.
Or at least 10% of the life Brian has claimed to live!
So Rich how does it feel to have been on BBLSTP ?
Or as the cool kids are calling it, Bubalistapa!

Richard, thank you for all the amazing stuff you've done on your podcasts, and elsewhere.
Seconded!
The phrase "Larger Than Life" barely scratches the surface.

The one where Richard Herring only says 23 words.
Yeah but "So you haven't seen a ghost, then?" has to be one of his greatest lines!
