- Henry VIII's Astronomical Clock told the Tudor Court everything they needed to know - the times, the tides and the future! Here State Apartment Warder Susan Rowe tells us why it is one of her favourite things - and explains what it tells us of the 16th Century view of the world. You can see longer versions of these 'A few of my favourite things' talks live at the palace throughout the year - visit www.hrp.org.uk for details. A film by Tim Powell at Historic Royal Palaces.
Still a good lecture Mrs Rowe ! 😀😍
It's made me want to visit and see the clock for myself.
I share your fascination with this clock and enjoyed learning more about it. Seeing the clock up close, including the works was very interesting.
The music is 'Crye' by Christopher Tye.
What is this wonderful music? I love it!
Great, informative video
A great video. I really like it and I have seen i several times. But whar is the meaning of the four numbers at the center dial?
it is the phases of the moon
The numbers in the middle are the four phases (in quarters) of the moon. The 'J' is a 1 in modern nomenclature
Even in geocentric universe of ptolemy, earth is a sphere, not flat.
Elliptical spheroid i believe
Earth is flat yessss
Age of the moon? Measured from when?
Creation was considered to be 3761BC
I have one question. At the moon disc, there are four sectors numbered 1-4. What is the meaning of this? My first idea was, that it is the Ship's bell system, but the ship's bell splits the12 hours into 3 sectors. Hmmm
The moon has 4 phases, each approximately 1 week long
is it original
Yes. It's original, like the stonework of the palace and the paitings in the Mantagna Gallery and the tapestries in the Great Hall
Sectors 1-4 are the four phases of the moon 😀😊🙃
Flat earth proof.
+Marlon Sorken Don't confuse flat earth with earth-centric universe. This clock was made after Columbus discovered the New World, so they were perfectly aware that the earth is spherical.
Marlon Sorken Lol
where? if you are referring to the fact that the earth is depicted as being at the centre then I am afraid you are mistaken, even now this is also how planetariums are modeled it's called the celestial sphere.
Tidal prediction would not be inconsistent with a flat earth. Oceans would be just very big, salty lakes

That doesn't prove a spherical earth.
based on flat earth because Earth is flat and motionless !
earth is flat but it is spinning on a platform heading up and our magnetic pull comes from gods neglected daughter the moon
I knew we'd get a flat earther in the comments. It's not flat - that was a C I A psychological operation to see how stupid they could manipulate people into being - can't believe anyone even still buys into it. None of the arguments advanced for it are convincing - all very easy to deconstruct. All the planetary bodies in this galaxy are spherical - it's a basic law of physics.
