King Diamond, as a youngster, is the "main character" of the album, so a lot of the singing is done from his perspective. You can often tell by the changes in his voice when he's singing for a different character. The creepy voices at the beginning were... "THEM"? You'll find out more about that, as well as whether Grandma is "alright," I promise. I am not sure who did the woman's speaking voice here, but it is his wife that does those parts when they're live as @t hansen mentions. I figured this was a good album to start now as we might be able to finish up around Halloween. Glad you enjoyed them Randi, and I look forward to recommending the rest of the album.
Fantastic Album, in 2 months time she might be able to get through this and The follow up album as it continues thes story. Fingers crossed. Glad you answered the questions without "spoilers". this will be fun watching a someone unravel the story for their first time. :)
Cast of characters : - King (9 yrs old) - Missy (King's little sister, about half his age) - Mother - Grandma (released form the insane asylum, after being locked up for murdering her husband years before, but she blamed the crime on "Them", hence the asylum... she makes a "good cup of tea") - Dr Landau (psychiatrist who will become a prominent character opposite the character of King - who is 18 yrs old - in the next album, Conspiracy) ...and of course... - "THEM" (unknown spirits/entities that inhabit the mysterious house called "Amon")
Then when she get home from the sanitarium Lil' King talks to her telling her sweet things and tells her that Missy and Mother are dying to meet her, Then Granny explains how THEM, THEY (the spirits) kept her company at that holiday place, aka the sanitarium.
used to listen to king and mercyfull fate as a kid. i had some friends that used to bodyguard at his shows in the old days. so i got some backstage passes and some fun stuff from the shows.. mercyfull fate, is deffently worth diving into if you like king diamond.. the live shows are also worth a watch, a little like alice coopers shows. King Diamond - Live at Graspop starts with these songs im not sure who did the woman voice in the old days but his wife is doing it today, and helpin him with the falsetto when he is live this album is the first album out of two Conspiracy is the second album
Other than a few videos I saw you react to I haven't seen or heard any King in a long time, this will be fun. This is a concept album. Song by song a story is told and my what a story it is. While this album works as a stand alone King's next album "Conspiracy" is a continuation of the story.
I saw "Them" on this tour. (See what I did there?😉) Excellent show. I actually named my oldest son after Andy (the guitar player) King Diamond isn't for everybody, but, for those that like his voice, he sure can tell one Hell of a story. 🤘
This was the first KD album I ever owned .. such a classic.. you really should listen to the whole album .. the voices in out from the asylum the spirits of the house
If you don't have time for an entire album but want to experience some "short stories" from King Diamond, check out : Fatal Portrait (1985) : - The Candle - The Jonah - The Portrait - Haunted A twisted story of a woman so insanely jealous of her own 4-yr-old daughter Molly's beauty, she locks the child up in the attic and casts a spell to commit the child's spirit into a painting. The Spider's Lullabye (1995) : - The Spider's Lullabye - The Eastmann Cure - Room 17 - To The Morgue A chronic arachnophobe seeks help to overcome his condition from an experimental therapist who believes exposure therapy is the best therapy.

Don't forget to check out their first album: Fatal Portrait. A great album and my personal favorite. The atmosphere on that album is truly creepy.
