Melody is adorable, and seeing Steven support and help someone else experience the joy of cooking an absurd but fun meal was amazing! I would love to see him help Shane cook for Ryan and vice versa. The chaos would be amazing.

I used to live around the corner from a Waffle House in Nashville and there is no possible way to describe what a messy haven WH is if you've never had the pleasure. Servers getting into fist fights, frequent fire department visits, people in their Sunday best after church next to people that are obviously still intoxicated, waitresses that remember your order months later! A college student playing your least favorite song on the jukebox on repeat for 30 minutes followed by a group of bikers demanding "Barbie Girl". There's even a Waffle House theme song!
It's been said before, but always bears repeating: it's not a Waffle House, it's a Waffle ~Home~.

One time I had three tables filled with college kids, all of them drunk as hell. I was getting them coffees and Mr. Pig by the gallon and by the time it was to collect tickets and pay at the end of the night I asked one of my customers for his ticket, he said he couldn't give it to me because he ate it.
I asked if he was kidding and he said no, he was dared to eat it and he did.

To make waffles crispy is to add a little oil to the batter. Approximately 2 tablespoons per batch.

The second he said he's from Atlanta, the Waffle House thumbnail made even more sense than it already did. It _is_ the chaotic liminal space everyone describes it as, but also Waffle House is known for being one of the first establishments to return to an area after an evacuation/disaster. It's literally always there for you! Plus they got peanut butter chip waffles and a tier system for how many things you want dumped into your hashbrown food-pile.
Poor Steven really took hard that catastrophe review that he is not willing to cook anymore. Feels bad man... I hope its back on the saddle and get back into the joy of cooking for your friends once again, which is one of the many reasons Dish Granted is such a fun show to watch.
Yeah, I'm all for honesty but Ronny definitely took it way too far. I'm aware that he was putting on a persona, but the snarky criticism really wasn't enjoyable when it dragged on the entire episode. It brought the mood down imo. I enjoy it WAY more when it's really just a wholesome experience like presented in this episode.

Best Waffle House story: We were driving through Alabama when we got caught in a freak rain/hail storm; it was already ~12:30 a.m., so visibility was nonexistent. We pulled over at the next exit we could and of course the only place open where we could wait out the weather was Waffle House.
It felt like everybody had just come in to wait out the storm; not too many people were ordering food, and people were generally just anxious about the weather. At the table next to us, though, there was an older couple who just seemed as calm as could be; amused, even. We got to talking with them and it turns out it was their 30th wedding anniversary; he had worked late at the hospital, but they wanted to go out and celebrate, anyway, so Waffle House was their best option! I think they were the only people who actually wanted to be there.
I had a deck of cards on me, so we got to play a few rounds of spades with them, and we paid for their meal before we left. It was a really lovely experience and a nice memory.
I'm the weirdo that would stay in the car to enjoy the sound of the hail hitting the roof of the car
An authentic Waffle House experience is the time I was there, like Eric said around 3:30 in the morning, and a naked woman comes in to have the workers call the police, but also wants some food. They say they can't serve her, and she pulls a handful of dollar bills out from somewhere. Somewhere. The servers say nah, it's on the house. She went outside and slept in the dumpster. Never found out what happened, but the people on Adderall in the other booth had a lot of theories.
Anyone else miss when it was just Steven cooking? I miss his breakdowns
I miss it too. Steven sat to the side for almost the entire video. I wonder if he just doesn't want to do this anymore but compromised by having guests to cook instead so they could keep the format.
@@cosmicliminalityand i cant help but notice it switched to guests cooking right after ronnie chiengs nearly impossible food requests and absolutely scathing review (seriously.....0 stars even though he kept eating the food) .....i feel like he destroyed at least a part of stevens confidence and love of cooking, at least for wanting to for it for others on camera

Eric Nam truly is such a kind and down to earth person. IDK man, but whenever I see him, i just feel pure joy, some tears due to laughter and overall a complete relaxation

Waffle House is iconic. When I was a high school senior back in the early 2000s, I went to prom with a friend and we ate at Waffle House for dinner because I thought it would be hilarious to go there in my big poofy dress. I had way more fun eating there than I would have at the kind of places people usually go before prom.
Really enjoyed this episode. Melody and Eric were both delightful, and the meal looked so good!

Not as cool as Eric's story, but here's mine. I'm from the south. I had a good friend who had come over from Manchester. (We're in Missouri by this point.) He really wanted the American experience and wanted to go to Waffle House to order their biggest breakfast meal. He was so confident he could finish it. We show up around midnight, he orders it, gets maybe a third through and shamefacedly gave up.
Yay! The cooks ate with the guest! No more lonely eating! 🤗👍👍👍 Shared experience! Everyone is enjoying the fruits of their labor!

Eric Nam, like a true Southern city boy, describing how our worship of Waffle House is not about the food, but the ✨atmosphere✨. The food can be good, but only if you’re eating it at WaHo, at an unearthly hour of night, and the cook is probably high. That’s why when they say the dining room is closed but you can get food to go, you sit on the curb and eat your food right there.
I got into K-pop AND started watching y'alls content on Buzzfeed exactly in the same year (that's what happens when you have a night shift at work where you get no calls yet you do have access to the internet) and this was like my two worlds colliding BIG TIME.

as a southerner it was a treat to see Waffle House get some attention :) I don't have any super wild stories, mostly because uuuhhhhh I don't often remember.... because of... the circumstances that usually precede..... the Waffle House trip...
let's just say it's very normal for almost everyone to be drunk at a Waffle House at 3 in the morning. Really makes it feel like one big family lmao. I saw someone passed out in the bathroom once (just sleeping, they were okay!) and one time we squeezed 8 people into ONE booth (theyre tiny booths)

Waffle House is a waffle HOME, they let my entire theatre troupe sit in there with like two plates of food between all of us and just cry every couple weeks and the salt and sugar levels in the food are actively harmful 💖💖💖

Fyi the sides on the daikon and carrots are shaved off for both aesthetic and practical reasons. Shaving the sides off prevents breakage during the braising. It'll help ensure that there aren't floating bits of both in the sauce after it's reduced. The carrots and daikon look like glistening jewels after braising.
You can also put the daikon and carrots in at the same time. The daikon absorbs flavor super well, so it should be braised for longer.
