i really love that it feels like this show became "steven watches other people cook and sort of helps a little bit" after the ronnie chieng episode ruined him lol
Melody is adorable, and seeing Steven support and help someone else experience the joy of cooking an absurd but fun meal was amazing! I would love to see him help Shane cook for Ryan and vice versa. The chaos would be amazing.
going to waffle house is an experience. it’s like going to a medieval times, except your just watching to workers get into a fist fight with one another and someone doing crack by the dumpster. you’re drunk, you’re hungry, it’s a 10/10 experience
I'll argue about the description it yields that it is utter Chaos but what the Chaos is is not accurate across the board. Not every waffle house has fist fights in the parking lot. Though almost every single waffle house has a coked up cook.
I used to live around the corner from a Waffle House in Nashville and there is no possible way to describe what a messy haven WH is if you've never had the pleasure. Servers getting into fist fights, frequent fire department visits, people in their Sunday best after church next to people that are obviously still intoxicated, waitresses that remember your order months later! A college student playing your least favorite song on the jukebox on repeat for 30 minutes followed by a group of bikers demanding "Barbie Girl". There's even a Waffle House theme song! It's been said before, but always bears repeating: it's not a Waffle House, it's a Waffle ~Home~.
I've never seen anything with or about Eric Nam before, and this video has single handedly made be a huge fan of him. What a wonderful personality and energy, as soon as this video is over, I'm going to start looking up wholesome videos of Eric and his check out his music lol
Excellent episode. Eric has a great sense of humor, Melody is just a wonderful person all around and Steven and the cast really came through. My favorite of the season so far.
Former waffle house server here. One time I had three tables filled with college kids, all of them drunk as hell. I was getting them coffees and Mr. Pig by the gallon and by the time it was to collect tickets and pay at the end of the night I asked one of my customers for his ticket, he said he couldn't give it to me because he ate it. I asked if he was kidding and he said no, he was dared to eat it and he did.
one of the things i really love about dish granted is how often they bring in other guests alongside steven! it really feels like watcher is a little family. so fun and wholesome!!
YES!!! Steven Lim and Eric Nam? Dreams are literally made of this stuff! (Plus he's the probably the only true cure for Ronnie Cheing criticism) Eric's new album is perfect, cozy jams start to finish!! Amen to this amen amen amen
The second he said he's from Atlanta, the Waffle House thumbnail made even more sense than it already did. It _is_ the chaotic liminal space everyone describes it as, but also Waffle House is known for being one of the first establishments to return to an area after an evacuation/disaster. It's literally always there for you! Plus they got peanut butter chip waffles and a tier system for how many things you want dumped into your hashbrown food-pile.
Best Waffle House story: We were driving through Alabama when we got caught in a freak rain/hail storm; it was already ~12:30 a.m., so visibility was nonexistent. We pulled over at the next exit we could and of course the only place open where we could wait out the weather was Waffle House. It felt like everybody had just come in to wait out the storm; not too many people were ordering food, and people were generally just anxious about the weather. At the table next to us, though, there was an older couple who just seemed as calm as could be; amused, even. We got to talking with them and it turns out it was their 30th wedding anniversary; he had worked late at the hospital, but they wanted to go out and celebrate, anyway, so Waffle House was their best option! I think they were the only people who actually wanted to be there. I had a deck of cards on me, so we got to play a few rounds of spades with them, and we paid for their meal before we left. It was a really lovely experience and a nice memory.
An authentic Waffle House experience is the time I was there, like Eric said around 3:30 in the morning, and a naked woman comes in to have the workers call the police, but also wants some food. They say they can't serve her, and she pulls a handful of dollar bills out from somewhere. Somewhere. The servers say nah, it's on the house. She went outside and slept in the dumpster. Never found out what happened, but the people on Adderall in the other booth had a lot of theories.
Melody and Tony have such cute chemistry oh my gosh, she's so adorable and her happy dances when things go right are super relatable! This was such an entertaining episode!
I miss it too. Steven sat to the side for almost the entire video. I wonder if he just doesn't want to do this anymore but compromised by having guests to cook instead so they could keep the format.
@@cosmicliminalityand i cant help but notice it switched to guests cooking right after ronnie chiengs nearly impossible food requests and absolutely scathing review (seriously.....0 stars even though he kept eating the food) .....i feel like he destroyed at least a part of stevens confidence and love of cooking, at least for wanting to for it for others on camera
Waffle House is iconic. When I was a high school senior back in the early 2000s, I went to prom with a friend and we ate at Waffle House for dinner because I thought it would be hilarious to go there in my big poofy dress. I had way more fun eating there than I would have at the kind of places people usually go before prom. Really enjoyed this episode. Melody and Eric were both delightful, and the meal looked so good!
Eric Nam truly is such a kind and down to earth person. IDK man, but whenever I see him, i just feel pure joy, some tears due to laughter and overall a complete relaxation
Aw my worlds are colliding!! Eric and Steven and Mel all in the same video 🥰 love that the Asian American community on UA-cam/in media all knows each other and supports each other!! This was such a fun episode as usual!!
I got into K-pop AND started watching y'alls content on Buzzfeed exactly in the same year (that's what happens when you have a night shift at work where you get no calls yet you do have access to the internet) and this was like my two worlds colliding BIG TIME.
Not as cool as Eric's story, but here's mine. I'm from the south. I had a good friend who had come over from Manchester. (We're in Missouri by this point.) He really wanted the American experience and wanted to go to Waffle House to order their biggest breakfast meal. He was so confident he could finish it. We show up around midnight, he orders it, gets maybe a third through and shamefacedly gave up.
Melody trying and succeeding at making all these things and being super proud of herself is literally the best thing I've watched in a while. I love it!
IDK WHY THIS COMBO BROUGHT THIS TO MY MIND but just the happy joyful atmosphere 🥰 reminded me of Inga. SHE NEEDS TO BE ON DISH GRANTED!! Pretty please 🥺
eric is such an absolute sweetheart, & mel was absolutely adorable, & steven & tony were (of course) their regular amazing selves, so this has just become my favorite dish granted episode 🥺🥺
Loving this season of Dish Granted so far. The variety in projects is great! From a giant head cake to Korean Waffle House. It's entertaining as hell. Can't wait to see what y'all have planned next!
Eric is such a sweetheart. His reactions are always so cute and funny lol and to think that he can cook as well I truly believe that the food was good. What a great season! As part of the Nam Nation, I was stoked when I found out that Eric would guest on a yt channel that I love! Thank you, Steven! Thank you, Watcher!
Eric Nam, like a true Southern city boy, describing how our worship of Waffle House is not about the food, but the ✨atmosphere✨. The food can be good, but only if you’re eating it at WaHo, at an unearthly hour of night, and the cook is probably high. That’s why when they say the dining room is closed but you can get food to go, you sit on the curb and eat your food right there.
Y’all, my waffle-loving Texas heart sank when you first poured that pool of waffled liquid, but it’s so awesome to see you guys improve on recipes. You guys are seriously inspiring when it comes to cooking and it brings me joy to watch your growth in each video.

I was on the same wavelength as Melody for the bread/pasta/rice throw-down - Italian food is so important to me (and they care about the gluten-free peeps like me... if there's ever an excellent gluten-free sourdough bread, I'll change my mind...).
How is Eric Nam always the perfect guest on every show? The man is awesome! Btw... Great job on the Galbi jiim y'all! Even though it is a rather simple recipe, it is so easy to screw up if you don't pay attention to the details
Waffle House is a waffle HOME, they let my entire theatre troupe sit in there with like two plates of food between all of us and just cry every couple weeks and the salt and sugar levels in the food are actively harmful 💖💖💖 Got in a fistfight in a Waffle House parking lot a bit back, and have watched a waitress openly drink from a flask on the job. I love that place.
Love the help in the kitchen. Cooking alone can be hard (much less on THIS show!). Cooking WITH someone? So much better. These experiments are still stressful but less so shared. Continue the cooking buddie for Steven!

Can we talk about everyone’s best older brother Tony? He was so supportive with frying the chicken, reminding Melody that she made the food. The best
11:37 "you made that"
Wholesome. He looked so proud of her.
i really love that it feels like this show became "steven watches other people cook and sort of helps a little bit" after the ronnie chieng episode ruined him lol
Not the closeup of Tony's face when he says "that's me" after steven asks if you can be both handsome and tasty 🤣🤣🤣
it was endearing lmaoo

Can I just appreciate Tony for making his presence known this season? More please

To make waffles crispy is to add a little oil to the batter. Approximately 2 tablespoons per batch.

"time is an ingredient as well" man i love that statement. ima use that from now on.
Steven: So what do you want for breakfast?
Eric: Yes.
As much as i love seeing that Steven has gotten better at cooking, I miss the early days of Dish Granted with chaos Steven
I do miss the research part that used to be the start of the 24 hours, the watching videos, reading instructions & sourcing the important ingredients
Agree, now Steven just stands to the side and let's everyone but him do the dish
