    Well done girls. Yes, worth for Tanner to see when its much more green around and informe yourself ahead when tours are held. Be prepared for the crowd. Wish you all a nice weekend, stay healthy and hopefully we will see an end to all the sadness in the east and also downunder. Spring season is coming soon and enjoy the upcoming colours, life will be back.

    The "guy" on the tower is Saint Christopher (christo-phorus means Christ bearer in Ancient Greek). There is a legend that he carried the Christ child across a river. He is the patron of travelers, hence the big picture on the tower for the skippers down on the river to see him. This is also the reason why many people still have a plaque of him in their cars. Often times he is depicted at the exit of churches, as it was believed that you won't die a sudden death on the day you saw a picture of St.Christopher.

    • @JakobFischer60
      @JakobFischer60 2 роки тому +2

      Yes, and the story goes, that a small kid came to him and asked if he would be strong enough to bring him over the river. The ferryman laught and went with the kid on his shoulders. In the middle of the river, the kid became heavier and heavier and finally the ferryman feared to drown. He said, I feel as if I would carry the whole world. The child said: Not only the world, but also the creator of the world. But because you did so good, you will be called "Christophorus" from today on (with greek pherein or phorus, to carry).
      I went by a church at a bridge with a huge mural of him every day from school, so I loved it very much.
      Haha, and I even had a plaque of him in a used car I bought.

    Antoinette Emily just said on her vlog today that you are hosting refugees from Ukraine. That is really good of you. Our British government keeps using every excuse it can think of to deter migrants from coming. So far, only 50 from Ukraine have been allowed into the UK. The Conservatives have many close ties with Russian oligarchs and have received party donations from them. Many countries in Europe have done far more to support Ukrainians than Britain has so far. One excuse the government repeats is that we can't just allow people to come in without proper visas and checks in case some of them are spies or terrorists in disguise.

    My parents spend their honeymoon in Cochem, back in the 1960ies. 😉
    Didn't want to spoil your image of having seen a medieval castle, but the Reichsburg got the nowaday shape in the late 19th century, during the period of "historysm". Whereas Burg Eltz never was destroyed and still has it's original shape.

    The town is still asleep in winter.
    It's busier there in the summer.
    A tip: switch the camera from 60 Hz to 50 Hz, then the lamps will no longer flicker.
    (Maybe it's also from 30 to 25)
    The European electricity frequency is 50 Hz, in the US 60Hz.

    We were at the very same spots (plus some more with a day boat tour down almost to Trier) - and both castles were open. Fun fact. Cochem is reconstructed and so not really old. But the tour was more expensive and not that good as in Burg Eltz. And even though we came to Eltz on a weekday in October, we had then to wait about one hour to get in. The security guy told us that the waiting time in July was up to 4 hours! So maybe it is better to come back in October - and taste one of the special things: "Federweißer" - a young wine from that year. And the colours of autumn are also very nice there.

    Hi Risa, the familiy is not complete without Tanner! 🥴 But I enjoy every video. I know you are interested in history, so I hihgly recommend the Bundesbank-Bunker (it is written on the map you fade in and it is a „FED-Bunker“). It was a hidden place for a long time, but now it is a special museum. There was kept substitutional national currency, because other countries tried to destabilize our strong German „Deutsche Mark“. In case of a nessesary sudden switch the Deutsche Bundesbank was prepared. Very interesting! But I guess you have to buy tickets online, you can not visit it by yourself. English guidance recommended! Take care an come to Augsburg, we are the second oldest city after Trier an not very far from your home. Greetings, Jörg
