For some reason when I was younger I completely ignored the parts of the movie that show Indiana being a professor and for some reason I always linked adventurers and cowboys. So for some good years I thought that Indiana was just a cowboy with a weird rope.

Hollywood, that little amount of string can never hold a person without snapping. And, the hold isn't strong, as you saw he just flicked it and it came off
It's not stable enough to swing but if you have good aim and strength and the other person is unprepared you may be able to grab and yoink something from a table or ledge or something. It wont come right to you but it may be closer to your reach.
TLDR: you can't do all indie things but you can do a few minor things
