    Floyd Patterson was in total stitches as he listened to LaMotta regale story after story! Patterson hid his laughter behind his hands 🙌! Great production!!!

    I could have listened to those guys for hours. I felt bad for Floyd Patterson being asked those questions about wearing a disguise after being knocked out. Patterson was a gentleman and he answered the questions in a calm manner.

      La Motta had one of the greatest chins in the history of boxing. People who don't look up his career think that he was a knockout artist, but not really. He won a lot of decisions by just wearing down an opponent that could hit La Motta but couldn't hurt him. La Motta was always in good shape too and could go 15 rounds, no problem.

    That was great. I wish it was an hour longer. Hearing all these stories from these champions was a treat. I got Lamotta's autograph about ten years ago. He was wearing a cowboy hat and he had a young girl friend with him. His signature was perfect, No tremor in his hands or any evidence that he had brain damage from all the punches he took. A great place to meet champion boxers is at the annual Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend in Canastota, New York. Usually takes place in the month of June.

      Patterson was ashamed of losing to Sonny Liston twice, each time in 1 round. Patterson knew that Liston was an illiterate thug and that the public didn't like Liston. That might be why Patterson was so ashamed. Liston was simply the best heavyweight in the world. Nobody could beat him until Cassius Clay came along. Patterson had a good boxing career even after losing to Liston. He had a glass jaw though and had to be careful.

    • @pukulu
      @pukulu 2 роки тому +1

      @@DJK-cq2uy Patterson looked much better in their 2nd fight, and was doing well until he got cut. Patterson was an excellent boxer. His problem was that he was small for a modern heavyweight at around 190 lbs. and he was not that rugged. He got knocked down more often than any former heavyweight champion.

    Jake and Rocky were in reform school together when they were about 16.. That's where Jake first learned to box and ended up becoming the champion in the place. Then when he left he stuck with the boxing and the rest is history. I remember reading in his book about Rocky breaking his hand and so they couldn't fight eachother.

    Boggs handles their occasional rowdiness and mischief very well. They clearly like and respect each other, though being on TV inspired good behavior then (usually). Patterson could have been much more highly rated than he is now. A small heavyweight, he won his title just as the bigger guys were coming up. He had been smartly managed, but he himself insisted on going up against Liston. Even after that disaster, he did extremely well against Machen, Chuvalo, and Bonavena (and got robbed against Ellis and Quarry) arguable his best opponents.

    Wow! This is great! This must have been early 80s. You can see La Motta's stand-up ability. This is why I'll always say old timers are better than modern day fighters or athletes or just about anything: There's a thing called afferent training. This develops emotional resilience. The more emotionally difficult your upbringing, or the harder it is, the tougher you are as a human being. Imagine your old man walloping you in the chops for crying at the age of 8 and being handed an ice pick and told to hit 'em first and hit 'em hard and then taken out every night to fight kids on a street corner as your contribution to the rent. Lovely. What I truly hate is the current policy of bringing up children with kids' gloves, wrapping the dear little bastards in cotton wool. I heard something recently: bring them up like people and you end up with animals. Well, look at the world today. Just look at it. Do you think it will be better 10-20 years down the line, or worse?
