      @@hardcore2thecore Thankyou mate👍 I would continue to do these videos even if no one watched or commented on them as I do enjoy doing them and I find its a nice hobby that fits in well with my interest in local history and if I'm honest it all started because of certain good friends who once totally surprised me by buying me an old map of Grangetown & South Bank as a Christmas present. I do enjoy putting the music to the videos just as much as takin the pictures and making the video. I know the music won't always be to everyones liking and I do try if possible to always try and mix old with new. On this video I ended up using three Max Bygraves songs. Im just about to go to work so apologies if if I don't reply further tonight but Once again a big massive huge Thankyou 👍😃

    The A66 has devastated the historical landscape of Middlesbrough and surrounding areas along its route... 😢

    Mrs H 🇬🇧 .... All these buildings are not forgotten by those that where born in the 50's, 60's & 70's ... Change is a good thing most of the time BUT not in the eyes of the ageing... 💔

      @@MadeInGrangetown Thank you so much for all your efforts and time put into these wonderful memories. I often return to attend graves up Normanby Road. I Went to Napier St Sch, St Margart Clitherow Sch, when It first opened, then to St Peter's Normanby Rd, I absolutely love watching all your video's. As mentioned previously, the memories can never fade, 67 now and I become very emotional when I watch the video's. South Bank was an amazing place then. Mr Peter Minza and his store on Nelson St, The Gavaghan's Mile St, Jean Cox, Kathleen Gallagher, Deise French.
      Everyone knew everyone and everyone helped each other out. The best memories and happiest times of my life. Thank you so much your are so appreciated.

    Yet another great, nostalgic presentation. I was brought into this world by Dr. Ruddy on Nelson Street and grew up one street over, Pearl Street, now under the A66.The now pictures show a cleaner environment, but nothing of the thriving community I grew up in. Although I live on the west coast of Canada, I read the Teesside news every day and can't help but feel bad for the effects that de-industrialisation have brought down on the area. Farewell Slaggy Island!

      Hello and good morning Eric. A big Thankyou for watching and for your kind words. Sorry for the delay in replying. I was born 1971 and my memories are really from 78/79 onwards when much of the change was already well under way or had taken place. It is a big shame what happened to those close knit hard working communities.

    Amazing these, just been showing my mam. She lived on steele crescent as a kid. This one and the one on Nelson street she loved. She can remember all the shops. She said they used to sit out the front of the station and the Zetland and a club near it doing penny for the guy and make a few quid haha.
    She worked in the chemist on Lorne Terrace and recognised her bosses car out the front.

I only have memories from 1980 onwards and the change that has taken place blows my mind and I do wish that cameras were as available as they are today when i was growing up.

      @MadeInGrangetown I know mate, i can remember middlesbrough road all still up, I was born 76. Even when we were 14 or 15 we would walk home to teesvile on a night and south bank would be chocker with all the clubs kicking out. Our am always told me how round Asda and the Ind est was built up but your videos really illustrate it. People just moving further up the road from the industry and not going to specific shops was the start of the end for South bank, Grangetown and North Ormesby I suppose. Once asda and the likes were built, bakers, butchers etc were struggling. It is a shame how the community was broken though still. The music on your videos really illustrates it well. Keep them coming mate

      All those independent shops owned by locals and all within walking distance is something our mam still talks about even today, Asda was the final nail for a lot of places. I’m originally from Grangetown but growing up i always remember a busy South bank. It is a shame that the closing of the works and high streets took with them a real community spirit. Thankyou once again for your kind words. I do try vary the music and do try to include snippets of much older songs, I know it’s probably not everyones cup of tea but nevermind. I went with a few Max bygraves songs for this one😂 kind regards and cheers 👍

I was a steward on the south stand during the crazy years of Juninho & co but not been for a while now.

    If you go onto good maps on old Middlesbrough road where the old aire street used to be you can still see the old trolley bus wire poles are still in situ.

I don't have many pictures of Aire street and others around it saved as I'm not up to that part yet when it comes to making a video but when i do i will certainly be using the website 'slaggy island' which can be found on the old 'communicate' website that is no longer available but can be located on 'web.archive.org'

    • @MadeInGrangetown
      @MadeInGrangetown  Рік тому +1

      The very first piece of music when the title appears is called 'Movement 3' by Floating points. The tune when the first picture appears is 'Gaussian' by Com Truise, which I did slow down for the purpose of the video but the original is still a quality tune

      @@hardcore2thecore that is 'infinity' by The Cat and Owl and it is their cover version of Guru Josh "infinity' I also used it at 3:52 aswell. The part you mentioned is towards the end of The Cat and Owl version of infinity and all they do is cover versions but as music for children. The speaking part is not part of Infinity and is something I added and that is by @MostFear featuring Alan Watts a famous philosopher & writer and is called 'Resurgence' I also used their version of Insomnia in the video 'The Works & Black path, Spring 2022'
