I see comments like that about people I would never consider underrated but this man is seriously underrated. First time I heard his steel playing, was in shock….
Saw Robert Randolph at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. during the Experience Hendrix Tour. Mick Taylor and Robert Randolph played Purple Haze.. I'm here to tell you.. Robert Randolph by far the most underrated musician on this planet. When they cut lose on Purple Haze man they blew the roof off of the place. The sound man wasn't afraid to crank up the volume and Robert was making that pedal steel talk... One of the best shows I've ever seen...
@@BigMuddyCountry I saw him play with clapton in, I think, Foxboro MA. Didn't know who he was, but he tore it up and Clapton was just kind of standing off to the side looking at him like he does Derek Trucks sometimes.
i just discovered him on the eric clapton guitar festival with other guitarists i see for the first time dayum that boy can play all had flawless timing sou8nd
Jimi is still around all of us, we all know when we see him in artists like Robert. Prince channeled him the most. Then SRV did also. Check out Zack Person, Jimi will never leave us behind.
This guy is the closest thing to a Jimi Hendrix that my generation has! Not because he plays face melting solos... which he does insanely well, but because he is the only guy doing anything new wit guitar anymore! Who would've thought that someone would think to do a Hendrix song on a pedal steel??
@@billsadler3 Steve Kimock is amazing! Missed an opportunity to see him years ago in ybor city and hoping I’m able to make it this time when he comes around my area.
It's pretty awesome that this man trained in the beautiful Black American Sacred Steel tradition by a Pentacostal church would bother performing this song at all! Very awesome, love how he got the crowd going and love that they have blessed us by branching out musically! Wow!
well who the fuck wants to go hear music like this in an auditorium full of seats ? Thank fucking Bill Graham for foisting this crap on us when he moved from the Fillmore.. to some giant fucking pit with seats for the Money Baby. Enjoy the helicopter ride did ya bill ?
You're outta your goddamn mind.Maybe this ain't your thing, but it doesn't suck.Justin Bieber, Madonna, Brittany Spears..that sucks. This dude is jammin like hell.
Sounds to me like an octave fuzz pedal. I play through a Dunlop Octavio and the sound is similar. Mine just gives a bit more boost, so this could possibly be an original Tycobrahe.
Can anyone tell me what guitar effect he engages at 3:20? It sounds familiar, but I can't place it. I know he's got a pretty hefty range of fx and had some custom built, but that one rang some bells for me... like Tom Morello, namely...
This family's Killin it. Old school new style. Would of blown the doors off of the Fillmore in 69. Must of practiced in the church basement abunch to be this tight. Love to see these kids electridicing the blues. They're good with me. Need more of them. Lol as I cheer you on
Y'all Iz Tite As Fuck. Robert Randolph, YOU have changed My MIND INSTANTLY since I First listened to YOU play that Steel Guitar. Your Bass & Drum Players are equally as good. LOVE IT.
Robert Randolph is such a talented and underrated musician
I see comments like that about people I would never consider underrated but this man is seriously underrated. First time I heard his steel playing, was in shock….
Its unreal the sounds he can make on that thing! Robert Randolph is a legend!

Just think what a Jam Session with Robert Randolph and the Family Band and Stevie Ray Vaughn would have been like......
and Eric Clapton
Legendary.

ROBERT IS A BAD MAN ON THAT PEDAL STEEL GUITAR.AND THE BAND WAS ON POINT TOO.
He's stone cold killer. And the dude on drums was just wow also. I felt bad for the girl on keys sitting this one out.
these guys CAN PLAY! i have seen em 3 times and number 4 will here in about 4 hrs.
Anyone who thinks this sucks is completely ignorant of what good music is all about. Saw him live in Missoula Montana last summer - awesome stuff!
Vacuums suck the brains out of vacuous minds. So does this performance.
This band should be on your bucket list if you haven't seen them yet.
Been following this artists career since 2001. He rocks!!!!!
i just discovered him on the eric clapton guitar festival with other guitarists i see for the first time dayum that boy can play all had flawless timing sou8nd
So did I. I looked at friend that was with me. We gotta find out who this guy is. And get some stuff for drive home!
Saw him in Grand Prarie Texas playing with Santana. Amazing show, and Robert stole the show without a doubt.
This dude is the best drummer he’s performed with, hands down!!
a true master of the pedal steel guitar.......excellent in all genres: blues, rock, gospel, etc.......the Family Band are top notch musicians as well
Amazing, it touches your Soul, I am Amazed why he is not that Famous!! Just the Best, also thanks for sharing
In my mind RR (including The Family Band), have beem famous for years.

CarlCamp Wait, what?

Agreed. Utter filth. Some of those fills towards the end were sublime.
5 people can't handle this level of rock n' roll.

Agree with ozzy p. Heard him do this on Randalls Island opening for DMB. Man is SICK.

OMG !! WOW !!

In what universe is this Voodoo ChilE? The intro is from Voodoo ChilD, that's for sure..
This is voodoo child slight return, voodoo chile is the longer slow blues in d
This.
noisyflowers Nice to know people call you voodoo chile.
Move rover and Robert take over....yeah, yeah, you know what I'm talking about. JH

Capt Larry - I was lucky enough to catch this a few times in Fayetteville Arkansas at a 500 person venue. Easily a musical top 10 moment in my life.

im so pumped up to see him shred in buffalo tomorrow night

Awesome I Hope Some Day I Play A Pedal Steel Like That!!!!!!;-)
🔥🔥🔥
Sweetness
When I was getting into guitar as a teenager, back when Hendrix was alive, pedal steel guitar was just for "cowboy music". That's certainly changed!
This is Child...slight return.
Very talented
Dude can jam!
When are you comin to Australia thats awesome
Actually the title and the description are incorrect. It's definitely Voodoo CHILD (Slight Return), just without vocals. Voodoo Chile is much slower.
sorry. I didn't see your post.
sounds good my Man!
Dude what pedal does he use to get that awesome keyboard type sound at 3:24?!
Sounds to me like an octave fuzz pedal. I play through a Dunlop Octavio and the sound is similar. Mine just gives a bit more boost, so this could possibly be an original Tycobrahe.
That an Electro Harmonix, polyphonic octave generator 2. Or an EHX POG2.
Can anyone tell me what guitar effect he engages at 3:20? It sounds familiar, but I can't place it. I know he's got a pretty hefty range of fx and had some custom built, but that one rang some bells for me... like Tom Morello, namely...
Golgotha_Mythos69 its an Electro-Harmonix POG 2 Octave pedal
Joe Meskimen Thanks Bro!
Expansion of pedal steel, yes folks much more than country music!

Yeah, this is definitely Voodoo Child (Slight Return) not Voodoo Chile. Voodoo Chile is a slow blues song.
Friday Music!!!!
THIS should be used in the show "Suits". Come on, someone needs to get this to a producer.
Jeff Healey is back?
I'm dancin harder in a chair than a hall full of drunks at a Rob Rudolph concert..... we're fucked
This is voodoo child (slight return) not voodoo chile
Maaaan oh man
But can he play it behind his head?
This just makes me wanna move!
Y'all Iz Tite As Fuck. Robert Randolph, YOU have changed My MIND INSTANTLY since I First listened to YOU play that Steel Guitar. Your Bass & Drum Players are equally as good. LOVE IT.
Badass
great!
I left out Frank Marino. He channels Jimi as well. Any Hendrix covers he does are amazing.
Smokin'!
Did anyone notice that he rocked one of his strings off at 2:08 ?
on some phrases his guitar sounds like a crazy distorted harmonica. dope!
listen to gary clark jr. He's bringing the dirt and soul back to the game also
Damn Robert! I'm sure Jimi is smiling down on you...
Big drums
Dave Chapelle plays bass?
Here comes the Wolfpac NWO !
